Hello there!
I left you with a large dish of pasta in my last holiday post. We had a fairly good night's sleep at our camp site Campsite Du Mettey. In the morning, since we were the only people at the campsite, I asked if I could use the natural swimming pool, filtered by plants!
It was quite cold, but wonderfully refreshing. CBC and WKWTTG were too wussy to join me.
After this, we set off to the Super U to go and get some food to make a picnic. 3 blocks of cheese were bought (?!?!!) and were put into sandwiches with bread from the lovely Boulangerie in town and we set off through the woods from the campsite
I was walking with Little Red Riding Hood.
As it was the first day of #30 days wild, I made a real effort to try and look closely for any interesting natural features and enjoy the outdoors!
I found the way the branches poked out of this tree at almost right-angles fascinating!
Pine cones were a prominent feature of this journey!
This leafy moss/growth was interesting too. Does it have a name?
I thought I'd leave a pine cone message for those who passed here.
I always love seeing little holes and burrows and like to think of the pixies who have passed through! Maybe Silkie came through here on her way to the Faraway Tree!?
As a child, I was always so excited to see Oak leaves. Who am I kidding, I STILL am!
We reached a beautiful view point which gave us a great view of the town of Vagney
I do love walks that go through woodlands. There is something so calming about that dappled light and that air that is so full of new oxygen as it were (as in just given out by the trees!)
We did lark about here...
We noticed the shape of the barriers was a bit like the front of a boat soo....

Leo and Kate moment! |
CBC thought it would be easy to climb the rock below the viewing point. WKWTTG and I were telling him he was dangerous!
I saw this evergreen which looked like it was doing rap-hands so I joined it like a total Div!
The journey continued onwards and I searched for sights.
Saw these bizarre fungi that looked like aubergines when CBC cooks them.
Later on, further into the woods, we saw an epic ant hill and I tried to photograph the industrious workers!
I stopped to look at these pretty, delicate bulbous flowers. Name please? They're not Borage are they?
We spotted this moth and it made a beeline (mothline?) for CBC's boots.
More wild flowers.
And a very friendly pony!
We had been heading towards the signs of Cascades des Bouchots and here they were...
I'll leave you to look at beautiful cascading water...
Red riding Hood decided to climb.
The Big Bag Tim decided to leap...
I climbed round the edge towards the water.
There were smaller cascades further along the path.
These buttercups looked like they were oozing with butter!
And this looked like an enchanted giant.
And I found a Stag Beetle I think! I named him Gregor!
The last stage of the woods had an interesting outdoor gym. There were about 16 different pieces of wooden equipment.
Of course, I was the one who fell flat on my face, scraped all my knees so they bled and hurt my wrists as I slipped on the stepping stone style planks of wood.
It was certainly a wonderful walk, despite the slippage and the intense need for the loo! Certainly was a great start to 30 days wild!
Only really 1 day to go left in my holiday narrative! Are you glad it will be over?!
xx
What a beautiful place ^.^ I am so intrigued by the pool filtered by plants :)
ReplyDeleteThe swimming pool looks amazing, although I'm not sure I would get in unless it's very hot outside. The outside gym looks lovely too. Love your pictures, the holiday was really great.
ReplyDeleteHow incredible! The views, the cheese(! - THREE BLOCKS?! I am so proud of you!), that pony's mane (would it be wrong to take a photo of a horse to the hairdressers?!), the adorable cottage, and the Titanic homage :) Absolutely fantastic; although I am sorry you hurt your knee xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place. I've seen trees with branches like that and they look so odd. Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty especially your picinic spot. We went chasing waterfalls last weekend and I fell in the water when crossing the stepping stones, so I understand your pain and embaresment.
ReplyDeleteThese photos really made me smile :-) All that lovely nature and clowning around! I am currently listening to Adele at Glasto via iplayer, I needed to do something to counteract the misery!
ReplyDeleteYou pack so much in my tiny brain has trouble remembering my reactions. I should come down here and comment as they reach me, but I am apparently too lazy for that. Who knew? I really liked that pool but the plant part sounded a bit creepy. I do not want to trust a ficus with my aquatorial well being. That big giant thing was awesome, something Aragorn bested along the way. The falls were fantastic and your toes are cute. hey, I did pretty good with that! Yay lazy me!!
ReplyDeleteWe have lovely forests through which to walk and extremely cold water in which to swim if you ever fancy a Northern Irish adventure- before you need a passport to get here!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great start to 30 Days Wild! It looks like you all had a lot of fun on this lovely walk. The leaf/moss thing is a kind of lichen. Sadly, the beetle wasn't a stag - you would know if you saw one of those, just type Lucanus (the genus) into google images!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks like you guys had such a fun adventure! I loved your pine cone message and your Leo & Kate moment! :) And how cute is that pony?
ReplyDeleteI love reading about your adventures! You took some really beautiful photos and I love all of the little hidden gems that you found! Also that mushroom looks a bit like fried halloumi haha! :) xx
ReplyDeleteI'm confused - This was the start of your holiday...but then you say at the end, "Only really 1 day to go left in my holiday narrative! Are you glad it will be over?!"
ReplyDelete??
I hope it's not almost over, because I am just getting started with your wonderful photos. I especially love the one looking down on your picnic spot with the amazing view.
XOXO
You definitely win the prize for the most beautiful picnic spot this year, just stunning.
ReplyDeleteCan you see a pixie wearing a hat in the photo of the waterfall?!

love that Leo and Kate moment:)! Cute photo<3
ReplyDeleteWhat a hike! I'm so glad you three are very young and have the energy, balance, stamina, and strength to do that. 20 years from now when you attempt it, you'll find that you have aged - haha! :) The flower is not borage -- at least, not the kind of borage I have, which is much bigger, and the flower is different. I think the other funny thing is a lichen. I love the big mossy boulder(s) like giants sleeping. Do tell those boys to be very careful when they want to climb around the waterfalls. I lived for years in an area of North Carolina that is full of waterfalls, and every year a couple/three people would die because they assumed they could climb around the waterfalls -- whether climbing UP or scooting down. Quite tragic. Glad you three are safe!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk, and that sure was a picnic with a view! Wow! I'm loving your close-up photos of flowers, fungi and mosses. They're lovely. I've really been enjoying your holiday posts. xxx
