Hello there! Blogger is refusing to let me upload any more photos at the moment (that whole Picasa issue from before) so here is a lone shot so I can post a hello! Purple!
I had quite a good day all in all, my last cornet lesson with the children where I managed to play G's without exploding! Drumming club was really good fun except for a hyper child who wont be quiet! Still, he's fabulous at the drums, it's just when he stops playing that he is a pest!
In the outfit above, I rewear the skirt from last Thursday. I always feel a little like a mermaid in this as those little fin like swathes of chiffony material billow as I walk. I like teaming purple and turquoise/green together- it makes me think of my Mum! The top was a recent 2nd hand purchase- it's silk from Warehouse and it feels really nice. I just love all the ruffles. Worn with ancient thrifted purple felt hat, Aldo shoes and Secret santa sparkly necklace!
Have you succumbed to the lure of the ASOS sale?! I keep seeing a certain pair of mint-coloured gingerbread men-patterned shoes which finally made me go and have a look. Why oh why did I look!? I found loads of things I like! The gingerbread men refused to accommodate my large feet so I stupidly consoled myself with sky-blue brogues! Just waiting for DPD to redeliver... Hope they are too small for me so I have to send them back! Willpower- nil. Have you succumbed to anything you wish you hadn't!
The random ramblings of an eclectic eccentric who wends waywardly through a myriad of activities!

From the deeply philosophical to the cheesiest of chicklit!
Hello! I have read quite a few books but I keep forgetting to document them! Eeek!!!
I hope you are well today! I had quite a satisfying day today even though it was hard work and I had no lunch break etc! I ended up teaching Guided reading in year 1 (an experience), my orchestra behaved themselves and got on, my choir were super superstars, a colleague had a heart-to-heart with me about something that was worrying her (a privelege that she trusts me), I taught science to year 4, Databases in ICT to two seperate Year 5 classes and a great session at my homegroup from church. All in all, great!
20. Jostein Gaardner Maya
This book deals with a story told from 2 perspectives. Frank, is a bereaved Norwegian Biologist who ends up in Fiji. He meets a strange Spanish couple who are completely in love with each other- they seem to speak of high, mysterious, philosophical concepts and ideas. Frank is instantly intrigued by them. We hear of his grief and slowly how he learns more about Ana and Jose. Another narrator is a bereaved English journalist. Some memorable moments are Frank's conversation with a grumpy gecko, the idea of how a painting is the key to the mystery and some explanations of life! This book can blow your mind in many ways with its philosophical ideas and debates but it is truly amazing and special! I don't quite understand the ending but I certainly loved it! It contains that magic that all Gaardner's books contain and makes you look at the world in a different way. Highly recommended.
21. Sophie Kinsella The confessions of a shopaholic
After all that deep thought, I needed something a little frivolous. Becky is a total shopaholic who is funny, endearing and highly in debt. As the book continues, Becky seems to get more and more in debt and less able to deal with it. As someone who is ahem- fond of shopping, I identify with several events in this story although at times you just think"Noooooo, what are you doing!?!?!?!?!!" . I don't have credit cards so I did kind of want to shake her at times to say, "Stop!" when she maxed out yet another one! I liked the love story running alongside Becky's issues and the conclusion of the book was brilliant! Gleefully recommended- it only took an afternoon to read. The grown-up version of Enid Blyton for adults! The lovable Daisy Dalrymple finds herself embroilled in yet another mystery as she and her fiance, Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard try to have a weekend in the country. The thing I love about these books is that nobody nice ever does the crime or means to! It's always the ones you'd prefer it to be! Great fun!
Have you read any of these!? Are there any books you could recommend to me?

Chasing rainbows
Hello! Firstly, thank you to Hazel and Lisa, who explained how to add the Followers side bar! It STILL took me about 40 minutes to get it up there (I am THAT thick! It always surprises me how much people ask me about ICT stuff at school, I am hopeless at home!), I didn't realise that it had gone there and I fiddled for ages! Somehow, I have also changed template! Ah well! It looks ok!
And now I can display my lovely 40 followers (yay, I reached 40 at the weekend! Who are you number 40? I can't tell! Reveal yourself! ) I thought about doing a little giveaway if I ever reached 40 followers but didn't want to tell about this possibility so I could know that my 40 people wanted to be here and I had earned them, not just tempted by the prospect of free goodies! My little blog appreciates its ruby wedding anniversary's worth of lovely followers- thank you! So, I will sort this soon!
I was going to post about Herefordshire but tonight I just couldn't face wading through the ahem- 400 photos I took! So instead, I am sharing with you again, my favourite vintage/thrifted purchase of the post-shopping ban (remember that? Seems so long ago!) The rainbow skirt! Here I attempt to give it another remix! I love this vintage M&S dress so so much! And even better, a pensioner stopped me on the way to school today to say how pretty he thought my skirt was! That compliment means so much more to me than a 100 laddish wolf-whistles (luckily doesnt happen to me often! UGRH, can't stand it!)
Here is the rundown:
Vintage M&S dress: PDSA
Navy sailor top: H by Henry Holland
Bow belt: Primark
Rainbow espadrille wedges: Dolcis
You can't really see the accessories in the picture so I decided to do a Lauren at Someone like you and hang them on my fig tree! Balloon earrings: Tu at Sainsbury's (Christmas gift)
Starry headband: Claire's accessories.
I was going to show my shoes but my feet look minging! I rarely wear these shoes and yet I love them! I always associate clothing with times in my life and I remember buying these in Manchester on the weekend I broke up with my ex-boyfriend (like 9 years ago! They're mega old!) It's nice to have rainbows at miserable times!
Here was my dinner tonight!!!! You can't see it all underneath but there are radishes, lettuces, rocket, cherry tomatoes, radishes, tuna, crispy onion, cocktail onions, sweetcorn. I love the salads of the summer- I feel fresh and breezy!
And the first batch of garden-grown raspberries! (I'm pretty sure I ate some some small green insects too! Extra protein ya?)

Tracking the berg!
Oh what a difference a day can make! Here I am all cool and collected and ladylike in a dress! Yesterday, I was clambering up and down one of the Black mountains in Wales/England border in trainers, tee and cropped trousers, completely caked in mud after slipping on the descent- it was mortifyingly embarassed particularly as prior to that, I was tentatively tiptoeing like an 80 year old, then thinking I'd reached an easy spot, began to skip! Two seconds later, I slid down screaming, whacked my head and landed flat on my back!!! Then did exactly the same thing 5 minutes later! I am ok, although I was a little shaken and have a really sore neck! More of my visit to Herefordshire soon...
Aaaaaaanyway, back to the point: Inspiration Monday!
Ah, the maxi-dress, friend to ladies of all shapes and sizes- tall, short- the dress is a wonderful invention! How to waft...
Linking up to The Twobirds boutique and Patty's Visible Monday at Not dead yet style for a very vivid outfit!
The Two birds have introduced me to ye another person I haven't heard of. She has a pretty dress- it looks very Orla Keily! I was going to pose with my green Orla Keily bag (thanks Sharon for the heads up!) or with my blue satchel bag like Ms Tractenberg but I forgot and I can't be bothered now!
I went with a Monsoon patterned maxi (I call it my Picasso maxi as it reminds me of The weeping woman) with Accessorize butterfly necklace, Kush earrings, Primark jacket, Bay trading bracelet...
No summer outfit is complete without a hat! This is a 2nd hand one thrifted from a Hexham charity shop, accessorized with a silk scarf
The scarf is good as it covers up the muddy stain which is now on the back of it after my fall yesterday! Anyone know how to clean a paper-straw hat (water obviously not an option?!)
Sorry, couldn't resist the silly shot...
Or this one!
The garden is smiling. Look, the first marigold has come to visit!
Down at the bottom of the garden, among the birds and the bees, are a plethora of raspberries
And er- Welsh garlic flowers maybe?
Also, couldn't resist: Check out this fly. He's got a MIGHTY hairy back!
By the way, can anyone explain to me inidiot-proof REALLY EASY terms, how to add the Google Friend connect bar thingie to your blog- I've googled it and I just don't understand the instructions! A few people have asked me about it and er- I don't know!
How's you?!
Go and check out the other birds and the other visible ladies!!!

Mary Poppins' Handmade heart swap - What I made! Epic make a month!
2 days ago, I shared what I had received from the lovely Tracy at Mad about bags as part of the Handmade heart swap. Today, I thought I'd share what I made and a few details of the how and why!
I admit, I was a little apprehensive when I first signed up at the prospect of making all 5 gifts, all with a heart theme! My crafting regularly consists of cards and now very simple jewellery. Nonetheless, I signed up, after Mary encouraged me. Then I found out I was with Tracy and I was scared again. Because, despite the fact that Mary said, things came from the heart and it didn't matter how experienced you were, there's still that part of you that wants to do the best that you can for someone and you yourself know when you feel you haven't made something the best you can. I do struggle with insecurities in my abilities, even things that I consider I am good at! Tracy sweetly reassured me similarly and I just thought I had to give it a go! Even though I stressed over it in my head for 3 weeks, spent about 20 hours making everything over 3 days, it was a worthwhile challenge- it's been lovely getting to know Tracy.
Firstly, I stuck the stickers to the mug (which was unexpectedly time-consuming lining them up!)
Ceramic painting mug
Then I used a sponge and ceramic paints to paint colours that Tracy said she liked (the handle was a bit lumpy so it caused issues!). You had to leave to dry for 24 hours.
Subsequently, I peeled off the stickers and saved them for later...
Finally, I baked it in the oven for 35 minutes.
And voila, it came out looking slightly shiny! It's now dishwasher safe!
I filled it with some individual tea-bags before wrapping it up.
Stained glass tea-lights
For my second gift, again, I tried to think of crafts that I hadn't seen Tracy do on her blog and I hadn't seen any stained glass painting and thought that she might appreciate some tealight holders in her favourite colours of turquoise, green and purple.
I have to say, these were by far, the most problematic make of the swap! They were so so so time-consuming and very very stubborn. Painting on a curve was not easy!
I bought some mini shot glasses. Then I attempted to use my stained-glass black relief outliner from Anita's crafts which refused pointblank to come out of the squeezy bottle. So, I poked it with pins to no avail. Finally, I took the lid off and just tried to paint it on with a paintbrush. I maskingtaped a template to the inside and painted the black outlines over about 3 hours, which was hard on a curve. The next morning, I filled the gaps with 3 different colours. I obviously hadn't entirely sealed the borders between them enough as there were several leaks. Finally, after leaving them to dry half a day, I painted the rest of the glass in one colour. I did the same with 3 of them. Then put in tea-lights with a couple of spares in each one.
Rose bath fizzers:
As I found out Tracy was a busy Mum, I thought she might appreciate something indulgent like a soak in the bath. Again, I hadn't seen she'd made any bath-bombs (although one of the pictures in her header could have been....) so I thought this might be a nice idea.
My Mum makes bath-bombs/fizzers so I asked her if she would teach me how to do it for this swap. She
She thought that rose bath bombs would be a good one as pink hearts and all that.
With much supervision
Next, using the heart-shaped silicon moulds I'd bought, I spoooned the mixture in and pressed/packed it as tightly as I could. I don't think I did it as well as I should have- it was hard with the heart shaped moulds which kept moving. Mum says that normal circular ones are much easier.
Finally we added Neal's yard rosebuds with a drop of rose oil on each.
I packed them in clingfilm as they need to be kept out of contact with water. They smelt really nice and I was glad to give this a try!
Heart box and cards
It is clear from Tracy's blog that she has an eye for pretty things, so I wanted to make something pretty for her in her favourite colours. Since card-making is the craft I indulge in most, I thought I'd make her some cards and somewhere pretty to keep them.
I took a small textured brown box; some acrylic paints in purple, green, dark turquoise; some silver outline stickers; some mini gems; a heart shaped punch and some stickidots.
I
I drew pencil lines where I wanted to apply paint to the lid. Then painted strips of different colours on the lid and the bottom in green (acrylics) using a sponge to get an even finish. Left to dry.
Then I created a stencil using a heart punch (see below) and applied a line of green hearts to the lid
Then I added some outline stickers to mask the boundary between colours.
After that: I punched some silver mirror card hearts and layed them on top of each other with 3d pads
The final touch was adding 3 little gems to each one with sticki minidot.
I have to say I was really pleased with the results.
The cards:
To go inside, I measured and cut cards to the size of the box, punched a heart border down the side of each.
Next, I created hearts out of 4 different envelope inards and attached to white card, cut with scalloped scissors. Finally, to ensure Tracy could use them for any purpose, I added some Best wishes stickers.
The design is one I have made for Engagement cards on quite a few occasions and it adapts an idea I think I got from Papercraft inspirations magazine many years ago.
I HEART TEA charm bracelet:
Tracy said that thought she doesn't wear much jewellery, she likes a nice bracelet or two. So I tried to find some purple buttons to make a base-bracelet with jump rings. Then, I added a purple glass heart I had bought the day before. Remembering Tracy's love of tea, I added a tea-cup and milk-jug charm which I had from a doll's teaset I'd bought for the purpose.
Here it is wrapped up in some recycled organza and chiffon ribbon.
Jubilee heart decoration:
It was only as I was wrapping everything up, that I caught sight of an article in the Docrafts magazine that showed how to make a gorgeous paper/card heart. I thought it was so pretty!
It was easy to make with different length strips of paper which I secured with a bulldog clip after making 2 teardrop shapes with some red satin ribbon sandwiched in a loop between. The ends were tied in a bow at the bottom. To stop the heart from getting crushed, I put it in a recycled thorntons box which I painted and put a heart on.
Bruges chocolate:
I still had one lolly-pop left from Dumon chocolatier in Bruges (2nd best chocolatier in Bruges) which I hid in the box under the heart as a surprise.
Knitted heart
Sadly, not by me! But it was too cute and I thought Tracy would like it! Some choccie and a badge from the British heart foundation which matched the recycled map envelope I made.
Did you wonder what happened to those heart stickers that had been painted on the mug? Well, I stuck them to a black card to make a greetings card for Tracy. I couldn't possibly throw them away!
Here's the whole collection: (Thanks to Tracy for this photo and the knitted one. You can also see the Thorntons protecting box to the right). I always include little cards explaining what things are and why I chose to made them. I always think its nice to know how and why someone chose something for them!
So I survived my first totally handmade swap and I am so glad that Tracy liked what I made for her. I've been thinking about it constantly for 3 weeks now! Thank you Tracy for being such a lovely swap-partner. You are welcome to go and check out Tracy's pretty blog!
I think June's Make a month with Annie the Felt Fairy is more packed than any other month! I may just flake in July!
So what do you think? And what have YOU been making!
If you haven't made anything, what WOULD you like to learn to make? I'd love to be able to make mosaics and make dresses and other lovely sewn items!
Linking to Lakota's Ta Dah! Tuesday as I am feeling pretty happy with my crafting attempts!

I wonder as I wander out under the sky...*
I was put in mind of these lyrics* as I wandered my garden, lost in thought as to the beauty of the summer garden. I was lost in thought and seeing these shots that I left my camera to take as I wandered, they seem really ethereal with the washed out pale shots and the elf-green flowing skirt. I also seem to be having an audition for the Ballet Rambert or some other contemporary dance company!
"Welcome!"
At the weekend, I am off to a lovely village, not too far from Hay on Wye, the other side of the Black mountains to play in a ruined abbey. Last time I went to play this particular concert was around 6 years ago and I remember it being a very beautiful, gentle experience that filled me with joy at the music and the tranquillity of the countryside. That particular experience fits in with the lyrics!
FYI:
Hat: 1969 purchase by Mum
Skirt: gift from Dad and Stepmum
Top: Newlook via Charity shop
Belt: Primark.
Comes from the most beautiful carol. I played in an arrangement by Lucio Berio of this
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
When Mary birthed Jesus 'twas in a cow's stall
With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all
But high from God's heaven, a star's light did fall
And the promise of ages it then did recall.
If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing
A star in the sky or a bird on the wing
Or all of God's Angels in heaven to sing
He surely could have it, 'cause he was the King
I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

Mary Poppins' Handmade heart swap! What I received!
Hurrah!!!!!! I went to the Postal delivery office in my local town to pick up my Heart-made swap parcel. This was organised by the delightful Mary Poppins, who you may have seen on Bargain hunt. My partner was the lovely Tracy, who is an amazing amazing crafter!
We were asked to make and send 5 handmade items to your partner on the theme of hearts. A thrifted item or something small could also substitute some too!
I have been stalking following Tracy's blog since the partners were announced and I was amazed and scared by her crafting prowess!! Ok, understatement- terrified!!! But also excited!
Anyway, I opened my box and this lovely sight greeted me! Pressies surrounded by lovely spotty and pink paper (and more stylish protective wrap than mine which consisted of a heap of carrier bags!)
Here are most of the gifts in their pretty, feminine wrapped up state! (2 are missing from the picture- why, I ask myself!?)Firstly was a pretty butterfly card from Tracy with a lovely friendly message.
The first gift which housed most of the presents was this amazing bag! Tracy, having discovered my musical interests, took it as a theme and made the most wonderful bag! Her blog is entitled Mad about bags so I was secretly, reeeeeeeeeeeeally hoping there would be a bag in there! The material is so pretty! As a musician, in my past, I had been bought musical gifts but NONE could even compare with how exquisitely made this is and how pretty it is! I mention the gifts by way of comparison. This is in a league of its own- sooooooo classy and stylish and the nicest musical themed gift I have been bought, well in this case- made! I adore gingham too and the whole ensemble is perfect!
Look at the exquisite heart decoration with tiny delicate beading!
Even more exciting was this padded heart decoration with its inspiring message! I have wanted one like this for ages and I would always eye up this type of thing at Craft fairs, longing to be bought one and now I have one specially made for me!
I can't wait to hang it up!! I wish I could show you the craftsmanship close-up, it's amazing!
The next gift was this gorgeous china tea-cup! Tracy and I both like tea, we discovered so great minds think alike and we made each other similar gifts. I love this quirky heart design. So pretty! It's handpainted but it looks so professional!
The next gift was a little bag of little 'Made for you' charms which will be the perfect addition to any future bracelets or necklaces I make! I love 'gifts with a legacy' like this where I can pass the love on!!! So thoughtful to include these!
YAY! Cath Kidston tissues! I adore a bit of Cath as my blog gives copious evidence of! I always need to use a hanky so I cannot wait to waft these around! Trouble is, they are too pretty to use!
Another thoughtful thing Tracy noticed about me was my love of books. So this little book with inspirational thoughts (I like her lateral thinking on the heart theme!) will be a lovely little read! It makes me think of Jane Austen's 'Love and freindship'!
I'm hoping my boyfriend doesn't read this post or he'll be after this! Yummy, Lindor choccie!!!
Thank you Tracy for such a gorgeous selection of goodies, you have thought about things I like, really kindly and I am so grateful to have received such a parcel of joy in heart-shaped form!
If you haven't, go and check our either of her blogs -photography or the crafty one or check out her Facebook link- her makes are truly astounding!
She took some great shots of what I sent her, which I'll do a post about soon, but here she is:
Thank you also to Mary Poppins for organising the swap!
