TARDIS Tuesday - Ruby Sunday

Wasn't expecting to be donning this particular TARDIS Tuesday outift in May but there you go!

Last week was COLD and rainy!  My poor tomato plants are not happy in the garden after the battering they received at the hands of the hail and torrential rain!  Last Sunday, I was really cold so I decided to put on a jumper which led me to this outfit worn by Ruby Sunday in the last series of Doctor Who.  She also donned it in an episode called Dot and Bubble. I featured an iteration of it in February 2024 on here.

And here's me:

It was a cosy outfit to wear.
The jumper is from Topshop and I love the big sleeves and cropped length. I bought a size 14 as the smaller sizes were too cropped!  My skirt was a charity-shopped Fatface skirt and my jacket was bought from Primark in 2023 when I went shopping with my niece.  I only tried it on because my niece was trying things on but I really liked it and it was so different from anything I had! I've worn it a lot since! It has a lovely quilted lining.
The boots are no longer mine They are Clarks Men's and I bought them for me a few years beforebut CBC was getting very cold, wet feet last Winter and I wanted him to stay warm.  He'd already 'borrowed' them (without asking!) a few times the previous Winter so this year I told him he could have them and he's had cosy feet since! However, I figured they would be best for this outfit so I put them on for it.  Hmm, they are really nice boots! Ah well, his need was greater!

Lots of promise in the garden this year.  We bought these two fruit trees a few years ago from our local garden centres and had absolutely nothing from them.  There's actually fruit growing on both of them so here's hoping they come to fruition and don't get decimated by the birds like happened to my cherry tree!  The loganberry is covered in Blossom this year after two years of virtually nothing so I have high hopes and our replacement raspberry plants are growing so I'm hoping for the success of previous years.  The strawberries and blueberries have some promise and the apple tree too!

Our Calistemon tree has started producing its fun red flowers again and a runty sad Erysimum plant I bought at the garden centre last year has produced some pretty flowers in my front planter.  The rocket seeds I sowed have started producing, though not as much as I'd have hoped.   Still, better than nothing!

A friend at church gave me SOOOO many beetroot plants today, all sown in a tiny tray! I'm not sure where on earth I will put them!!! There are masses!!!

Nearly all my bean plants have germinated now after a slow start but they are getting very leggy so I really need to put them out soon but I think I need to wait till Thursday! One courgette and one Pattypan squash have germinated too as well as more tomatoes. I do like the growing season even though the watering gets arduous on school days. I am glad we had some rain though as I was starting to shower with a bucket again when the waterbutts got low!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday outfit- Jubilee Special- Rose Tyler!

Hi there!

Hope you are well. I am back to school after half term. All a bit busy, all a bit frantic. I did start the term in a complete panic and gloom about it, didn't get everything/most things I needed to get done, done! Enough said about that, the better.

Unless you've been under a rock, you may have realised that we've had an important jubilee here in the UK- 70 years of Queen Elizabeth the II being queen. I didn't really get involved in anything going on but we've got a fortnight of school activities connected to it, starting from Monday this week. We had to go in in Red, White or Blue or a costume from the decades of the Queen's reign (I went in my 1970's kaftan.)

However, I realised I could actually theme my TARDIS Tuesday towards the Jubilee (and a good outfit for a school dressdown day!)

I last cosplayed this outfit back in September 2017  and was worn by Rose Tyler in Christopher Ecclestone's tenure as the Doctor in a World War II pair of episodes called The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances.

It comprises of:
  • Union Flag t-shirt
  • White vest top
  • Blue flared jeans
  • Gold Hoop earrings
  • Pale Blue Timberland Boots
  • Messy fluffed up hair pulled back

And here's my 2022 version:

I wore the same t-shirt I wore back in 2017- I bought it for £4 in a charity shop. It fits a bit more snuggly this time but it still works. This time, I remembered to wear a white vest top underneath it.

I wore my Indigo denim trousers (Charity shopped F&F Tescos) in lieu of the jeans I wore last time.

Another update was wearing this Barbour jacket from another Clara cosplay which worked better than the jacket I wore last night.

My final update was wearing blue leather boots which I bought in Florence in 2018.

I don't have hooped earrings so I donned a gold dangly pair.

My hair was a better length and texture this time to match Rose's and actually, this style was really easy to do plus I like the way it looks!

My two orchestra rehearsals are over for the week. Last night, I had a rehearsal in Leytonstone at an alternative church than the usual one and as usual, I got hopelessly lost trying to find it! The rehearsal was intense but really useful.  The conductor is super precise over every little detail and he demands a lot and gets a lot out of players. There are a couple of prominent 2 flute moments and I was really nervous! BUT, we responded to 2 bits of feedback and he actually told us it sounded gorgeous and was really pleased with the flute team.  It meant so much coming from someone who is so particular and I had such joy in my heart after the rehearsal (we are performing Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra).

Unfortunately, the evening took a bit of a snag as after I had cycled back to the station, I discovered there was NO central line trains back to Stratford. I ended up waiting half an hour for a bus to Manor Park to then get a train back to Stratford and then get the train home. I got home at about 12.15am!AHRGGHGH!

Tonight, I had a rehearsal in Essex for another orchestra. This time Glazunov and Tschaikovsky. It was fine but I was tired!

Luckily, no rehearsal tomorrow but I do have a lot of work to get done. Sigh...

Hope you are well.

TARDIS Tuesday- Rose Tyler- The end of the World

Greetings friend!

I hope you are well.
I attempted a Doctor Who cosplay today that I haven't done before in a style very different from my own and a companion I have only attempted once before.
Rose Tyler dressed in a 2000's casual style that I have worn when camping. I decided to attempt this look when I found an item in the charity shop last week for £2.

The outfit is this one from the very second episode of New Who.

It consists of
Grey slouchy cold-shouldered top.
Blue boot-legged loose fit jeans
White Adidas trainers
Gold hooped earrings
Wine and grey hoodie jumper.

And here's me:
As you can see, this is not an exact replica of the outfit but I like to think I have the casual elements of it:
The item I found in the charity shop was this grey cold-shouldered top which cost me £2. You can see it below.
I don't have any blue-jeans of the correct colour that are full-length but I thought I'd add these cropped jeans which I bought second-hand a while back for £4.
I added CBC's wine-coloured Burton's hoodie which I bought him for his birthday.
You can't see that I am wearing fake tortoiseshell vintage hooped earrings (the only hoops I have)
Finally, I added these white Adidas trainers from the very same era as Rose's- these belonged to my Mum's husband but he didn't like them so he gave them to me as we have the same-sized feet. I've had them a long time and are my only proper trainers!

I've been intrigued by these cold-shouldered tops but not enough to invest in one but for £2 and giving money to charity, it seemed worth a try. It's very comfortable top which I've been wearing under a jumper this week too!

What do you think?

Not my usual look (a bit like last week!!) but one I quite like, none-the-less. And two grey items in a row!
