TARDIS Tuesday- KILL THE MOON!

 Today's TARDIS Tuesday is an outfit I wore strangely recently (in comparison to others which have had a long hiatus)

It was worn by my old favourite, Clara Oswald, in series 8 of Doctor Who in a controversial episode called Kill the Moon. Controversial because it turns out the Moon is, in fact, an EGG...which hatches into a creature!

She wears a black and Autumnal coloured floral dress from ASOS plus her typical black opaque tights, her block-heeled Bertie shoes and a tan belt.

And here I am:

There's not much to say about this outfit except to say, I am wearing the ASOS dress but with leggings.  Mine was shortened...NOT something I needed to be done but when you buy it 2nd hand, not much you can do!  I also sold my screen accurate shoes so I am wearing an alternative pair of Clarks shoes I've had for a loooong time!

  

Grecian blues

Ang reminded me it was Zerowaste week last week and I fully intended to put together a post but I confess that the return to school absolutely knackered me out and I couldn't think of doing any blogging in the evenings at all...I will be doing this so if you come back, I'll do something.  I've also got a few other things I wanted to share but again, I have got home late or been doing other things and just can't seem to be creative!

Anyway, I found I quite like having a random waffle followed by an outfit I liked seems to be the way things have gone around here in recent times.  I DO like sharing outfits that made me feel pretty or happy- that may seem pretty frivolous, but it's something that makes me happy!

Let's start with the outfit:

This dress is a great favourite of mine that I have owned for about 10 years now and I bought it after I played the part of Luciana in The Boys from Syracuse- this is a musical based on Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors and I had to wear a Grecian dress which I loved! I ended up buying this one from Asos AND a black version.  I wore this lots on my honeymoon including on the Glacier Express in Switzerland.  I know that Ivana is very partial to a Grecian-shaped dress- what about you?  I wore this with my charity-shopped quilted Oasis jacket.

Jewellery-wise, I wore my Labradorite pendant which my friend Ellie gave me when she was clearing out some jewellery pieces. I wore them with these beautiful Autumn Aurelia Galaxy cloud earrings. She's a lovely girl with chronic illnesses who makes the most beautiful acrylic jewellery.

So, my last week.

Well, school was hard, I can tell you that.  It was really good to see the children and a lot of them were pleased to see me.  A lot of them were really sweetly dismayed on my behalf (and theirs) about my room but the majority tried very hard to do their best with the situation.

The year 3's were really excited about their first recorder lesson and were suitably interested in the history of the recorder, enjoying hearing and seeing all the sizes of recorder and, funnily enough, being really impressed and excited that I had met and played the recorder with Carl Dolmetsch who played an important part in the history of the recorder.  The new year 4's were really excited learning about time signatures and learning to conduct time signatures.  The year 6's, learning a Ghanaian song, Nanuma, were enthusiastic and responsive in all aspects.  The year 5 lesson went a bit more slowly than I would have hoped but the kids were enthusiastic.

And then we have Key stage 1...

The year 2's were the ones who are in the shared hall and oh my goodness, it was SO hard to teach in there, so,so noisy.  The kids at the back of the 'room' couldn't hear me and I had to talk SO loudly.  In the end,I resorted to taking the class onto the stairs and getting them to sit in tiers on the stairs to sing so they could hear me. I was hoarse after 2 lessons.  It was even worse when I taught the one year 1 class up there.  These are children who I've not taught before, who are used to being in reception and not used to a full music lesson. There were some who really need one-to-one...I didn't know any of their names...it was really hard! It was slightly easier with the 2 year 1 classes that had their own rooms (including the ones in MY room...sob!) but it was still hard...usually when they enter MY territory, there is a natural sense of they learn my rooms and there are ways they sit etc, but when they are in their room, they are less likely to learn my way or doing everything...and then there's the lack of my vocabulary and posters which are SO integral to my teaching! 

I spent a lot of time moving instruments and preparing...and losing things! I lost 3 cardigans last week and my mug about 30 times...and my memory stick case...and my rucksack...and my 'box with paperwork'... I accidentally tipped a basket of claves over into my supermarket trolley and they rolled all over the place...and the year 1 class has stained my carpet with playdoh...

I spent a lot of my time in the evenings labelling recorders and recorder cases...I've undone 54 knots in recorder cases and attached labels...a fiddly job but in the long run, a lot less recorders go missing if I do this, as parents never did this when I asked them to in the past. 

This weekend, I had the most wonderful performance I played in at the Colourscape festival on Clapham Common which I will share soon. Saturday was a day at home which included weeding!

TARDIS Tuesday- Clara's outfit from Kill The Moon

Hope you are well.  I've got a stonker of a headache tonight and I had 3 good lessons with children today and one not so good one (it's that cocky, end-of-year-6 "We're so funny and cool and won't listen," combined with obnoxious difficult class anyway).

An annoying Scrabble moment earlier- I had a word which if I placed it, would have got me 86 points from only placing 5 letters- my opponent placed something there for a measly 38 points. Grr! I've also been playing against Beethoven!  He's an AI player but he's very, very good! It's funny because I am doing some work on Beethoven with Year 6.

Anyway, onto today's outfit.

This is worn by Clara Oswald in an episode in Series 8 entitled Kill the Moon.   It's a kind of ridiculous episode in which the premise is that the moon is in fact an EGG which hatches into a creature, which lays another egg! 

For a lot of the episode, she wears a red/orange spacesuit but when she's not out on the Moon surface, she wears this black and orange floral smock shirt dress along with a tan belt, black tights and a pair of wing-tipped brogue shoes from Dune.

And here's my version this time:

A fellow Doctor Fan and cosplayer had bought this dress second-hand from another cosplayer but it didn't fit her and she was desperate to sell it so asked me if I was interested in it. I was tempted and she offered it to me for a reasonable price (not a reseller price) so I decided to give it a go!

I was surprised when I received it as I thought it would be a cotton material but it's some sort of synthetic.  I wore it to church and found it really comfortable though, as always, tall girl problems with it being very short on me!

I was able to wear it with the screen accurate Bertie heel lace up shoes featured below.  Clara wears them with a few outfits so it was nice to be able to team them up.

A year 5 girl stopped me in the playground this morning and told me I looked beautiful!  I was rather surprised and touched! Much as it's nice to be told someone likes YOU or something you've done more, it's still nice to be told that!

I think I'll get my hair cut in Half term when I visit Northumberland.  Even though I'm finding it a pain being long, I will miss the length!

Tomorrow morning, I have my first new Junior Recorder club starting. It's going to be weird not starting in September but also doing it in the Dining Hall. Not quite sure how the music stand situation is going to work out yet!  Ah well, we'll give it a go!

TARDIS Tuesday- Death in Heaven

Here's a TARDIS Tuesday I've done before- back in 2017 or 2016 when I lived in my old house.  This time, nothing has changed about this cosplay except that I actually thought to put some earrings in!

The outfit is a mix of casual and dressy (the jewelry and the boots) and one I wore to school a few week ago as well. Surprisingly enough, considering how plain (one might say boring) it is, I received LOADS of compliments and told how different I looked.
She wears tight black jeans with some dressy gold-accessorised boots from Topshop. Her green mac is also from Topshop and is considered a Holy Grail amongst Clara cosplayers as it is so rare and hard to find.  Underneath she wears an open-weaved cream-sweater from Gap and then wears some plain gold studs along with gold rings and a watch

And here's my version:

I couldn't resist the opportunity to recreate the picture in reverse.  Although I actually do own a version of this sweater, I prefer my alternative one (the sizing and feel is better) which I found in Barnados for £2 a few years ago. I added some simple studs to my ears which are hard to see.

Onto the complete outfit.  My black trousers are not jeans and I have worn for every Clara outfit which features black jeans for years- mine are from ASOS and I wish I could find an identical pair when these wear out.  I'm wearing a black version of Clara's jacket which was one of my first ever Clara items that I found in the charity shop for £7.99 before many other Clara cosplayers managed to find of these. It is super comfy and able to accommodate a big jumper!  My boots are the same ones as Clara's and were my first ever Screen-accurate Clara shoes. I paid about £18 for these which for me, was quite a lot to pay for second-hand shoes. I have to say that I do like how they look even if I can't walk miles in them.

Sunset in the Arboretum

One of my favourite places at camp is the Arboretum- it is a beautiful quiet haven where you can go and lie, read, sit.  The leaves rustle gently, the sunlight streams through branches, you hear the smallest and gentlest of sounds.

I love camp and I love the many, many friends I spend time with but sometimes you need a little bit of solitude.

I wandered bare foot in the soft grass because I'm used to that at home. I read some beautiful books and breathed the fresh air.

These photos were taken around dusk.  I do like being able to wander around in summer dresses, flowers in my hair and joy in my heart.

5 years and 6 months

A little late but I am joining in with the Two Birds Inspiration Monday on a Tuesday.
They featured Emma Roberts (related to Julia) in a glam Valentinesish dress.
I don't own any bodycon dresses, but the flower print and short length made me think of this floral 60's style-dress- it was the first item I ever bought from ASOS, 5 years ago.  How do I know? Recently, they sent me an e-mail saying it has been 5 years since I first bought something from them and I know it was this! Looked ever-so slightly less smart at school as I teamed it with a red hoodie zip-up for warmth when I was in Reception.  The door is open so the children can freeflow outside so it's always cold!



It was 6 months since CBC and I got married on Sunday! Hard to believe how quickly time has flown. YAY for us!

Yesterday was a bit nightmarish as I smugly got on the 7.46am train, proud that I was early for once and had plenty of time when I got into school.  Unfortunately and dreadfully (for the victim, driver, us- most of the National Express East Anglia line), someone chose to jump under a train at 7.30am so of course everything when mad.  We were turfed off our train at a major interchange- chaos as hundreds of people milled around, not knowing what to do. I was advised perhaps to try and make my way to x, a train station which was past the station ("get two or three buses there") as trains would be running from there (they weren't).  Luckily, I was saved by a combination of my friend Bex's amazing organisation skills and thinking.  Her boyfriend and I got back on the train to our local station (luckily running) and met her there.  We walked almost home to another friend's house who was happily working in Stratford that morning and who hadn't left yet.  We got in his car and he drove in along the A12. Dropped me off at a big junction about half an hour walk from school and they continued on.  Finally arrived at school by 10 where the trains were still cancelled from that first station I'd been at- cannot imagine how frustrating it would have been to be STILL waiting there at 10!

The day itself was quite successful and in the evening, I headed off to orchestra and that flute solo actually went really well- didn't seem as fast somehow! Anyway, I was whooped by the orchestra at the end, so can't have been that bad!

Today, also a good day- I had one of my most dreaded classes who have this habit of, if they have a good day, continue well, but the slightest hiccup and they get worse.  Bit like gremlins really.  They had a decidedly Gismo day, as opposed to the nasty green things!

Peplerm?

I love this Orla Keily x Uniglo blouse.  It is made out of really comfortable soft cotton and the print is lovely (I also have it in the grey and orange) BUT, I find it hard to wear it stylishly-

It is slightly too big for me but the sort of Peplum-style (that's what my deputy called it) just isn't flattering, it makes me look larger than I actually am!  On past occasions, I have tucked it into a higher-waisted/tight-waisted skirt so you just see it as a tucked in blouse without the floaty bit down the bottom. BUT, I want to wear it with trousers too and it just hangs there.

I wore it here with black tighter fit ASOS trousers and a knitted button-down tank- but I'd like ideas for how to wear it in more ways and with what!  I really really like it but I don't think I am doing it justice- it would be nice to wear it without the tank too! PLEASE, can you offer any suggestions?

When I wore it this time, I wanted to team it with my Miss Simmonds says mustard beret and I recently have been trying to add different accessories to this beret (and a few other hats) to give them a bit of a restyle/interestinger edge. Thus I added this purple crocheted flower to pick out the colour of the top. And added a black velvet ribbon to the shirt.  Not so sure I got that cute Sheriff look that most other people manage by adding a ribbon.

My music room is gradually taking shape!!! I put up the sea shanties today- they look really cool all ramshackle all over the board. The Musical Elements posters arrived too (sorry, new National Curriculum, the inter-related dimensions of music) and they've gone up plus my Harry Potter 1, Dumbledore quote has gone up at the top of the display board. I am going to try and find some inspiring quotes related to music to go up around the room too- not overt, but something to catch the eye.  It's looking quite nice thus far.
My day was actually, despite feeling VERY bunged up and coughy, very good- my year 5's were completing their Sailor's hornpipe tunes (you can tell the theme this term is water, sailors etc?) and actually came up with some very successful performances. This year, I am trying to take a bit more time with some things that otherwise I would have rushed in one lesson and I can see the benefits of this in the quality of their music-making and enjoyment! The afternoon is my time out of class, so I got lots of little bitty jobs done (like the displays, no hoovering this week), and then in drumming club, we continued to write our 'Ghosts v federation' battle drumming which sounds pretty cool! Despite all this, I am VERY glad it is almost Saturday (a very very tiring Friday to get through- remember my Wednesday? This has now transferred to Friday instead, except that I get no break whatsoever now as there is no assembly for my classes every other Friday and since I am swapping Keystages between lessons 1 and 2, they have breaks at different times which works out badly for me.  Worse still, I have year 1 for three out of the four curricular lessons- my LEAST favourite year group to teach music to.  SO immature still but have to do the National Curriculum! Sigh.   Just got to get through.)

I've been messing around with Picmonkey. REALLY should be doing better things than adding purple daisies to pictures of myself!

Pretty tights

I love pretty tights!  I have an awfully large hoard in my house which I keep all stuffed into a big Pearl Lowe basket beach bag!  The other day, I was looking at a Blogger's post in which she was wearing the most adorable tights that reminded me of 101 dalmations which she listed as being from ASOS.  Now I have scoured the ASOS website for tights on numerous occasions, including in the recent sale, but never actually bought any from there.  So, I headed over there and typed in tights and 471 styles were found.  Ok admittedly, socks and tights get bunched up together but that is a LOT of tights for one shop to stock.

I decided to scout through and find the ones I liked best to share with you!

Firstly, these gorgeous spot ones are only £3.00 in the sale- even I don't mind that and they are a good-quality make. I like the sock-style!

In the Suspender-style, these elephant topped tights are so adorable but would have to be worn with very short skirt- not sure I could do that very often! Adorable though.

Christmas jumper politics

As you might be aware, today was 'National Christmas Jumper Day' (or something of that ilk) and so we were encouraged to sport our best minging jumpers for this. Now, for years, Christmas jumper has meant to me, any sort of knitted jumper, perhaps with heinous design or fair-isle, animal jumper, any knitted pullover affair OR any jumper you were bought for Christmas. CBC and I, a couple of years ago, were going to go and search for a 'Christmas jumper' for each other in the local charity shops as a challenge!Of course, you'd have to be blind to miss the genuinely 'Christmassy jumpers' available in every store- in fact, the market is saturated with them (not complaining fyi, just pointing out). I decided not to buy a specifically Christmas jumper because I have lots of novelty jumpers anyway and because I want things I want to wear at different times of the year and genuinely didn't see any I wanted overly. What's your opinion on the definition of Christmas jumper?

Today, I turned up to school in this ensemble and as I entered my meeting, my lovely deputy head (who delights in mocking me, affectionately of course) said "What sort of Christmas jumper is that? Cats?!"

To which I replied in a summary of what I said above.
The morning meeting commenced and my Head gave the notices, saying that it was nice to see everyone in funny jumpers and commented on how 'K managed to make hers more stylish by adding a belt."

The deputy then gave her notices and at the end said, after speaking about, how I was trying to fob them all off with fake reasons for wearing a cat jumper, which isn't a Christmas jumper!

Humph!!! It SOOOOO counts!!!

CBC's school also wore Christmas jumpers and he was remarkably fussy over it until we found this one on ASOS (with 20% discount code) which he was pleased about because it had mallards, deer, foxes, pheasants and a skyline on!

I am a little embarassed to tell the tale of getting this jumper but what the heck, I will share anyway.
We paid for next day delivery in order to ensure it was here for Friday (ordered on Saturday night) and I added my new address to my ASOS account and clicked that for delivery address but the billing address is still my old house.
DPD, the parcel company sent a text saying it would be delivered Monday and gave options of delivering to a neighbour etc (had to be signed for) so I asked my new neighbours who were in, and texted back. Monday night, I came home to a text saying it had been delivered to Number 7 and someone called Ali which I thought strange, as we live at a higher number. I tried number 7 in our close AND on the main street but to no avail. At which point, CbC had the brainwave it might have gone to my old house as I lived at number 6. He was right when I checked on the DPD website (still annoyed at ASOS how that happened). Anyway, so I went on Tuesday to go and look for it at my old house. I walked along the street to look for number 7. After number 5, it was a converted house into 7A, B and C. "Great!" I thought. "Which one?". I rang the bell and banged but no answer. Lights were on upstairs but there was no bell for 7C. No answer from 7A and finally a window opened from what was 7B and a woman spoke in broken English. I asked about Ali but she said 'No'. I hoped she'd understood. I texted a friend to ask her to try the house during the day as perhaps they worked nights. She had no luck. Thursday night, I went over for choir practice and went and tried again. No answer from any of the houses, all in darkness and the one upstairs not answering at all. Somehow, all of a sudden, I was FURIOUS!!! I couldn't understand why they hadn't got in touch with me or where my parcel was or how I was going to get it! (Also contained the black trousers above). My Mum had to put up with a really irritated me, stressing over what CBC was going to do. I went to Tescos to see if I could find one. No luck. Finally, I don't know WHAT it was that made me check but I walked down the street slowly, scrutinizing each house and walked past 7ABC and found a number 7, a little bijou AFTER the big house of flats!!!! Surely 7 would come BEFORE 7ABC. Happily, the family of Ali was in and I got my parcel but I felt SUCH a twit. What point was there in my irritation and annoyance? I just got myself wound up! The moral of this story- don't get stressed about what you can't change OR 'Get a life, it's only a jumper!!!!!!!!'

Cultural grey-out

Sometimes, I sigh with despair when I look at pictures of me! But sometimes, I quite like them!! Despite the grey, I felt very visible, confident and happy about myself in this get up so I am linking with the lovely Patti at Visible Monday!  Forgive the overload of photos, I know they all look the same but I actually liked them despite the bush of hair!!!

A brief sojourn around Trafalgar square:  I have such affection for this place.  I have paddled in those fountains on several occasions and had water fights with random people. (in fact, in fountains in several major Europeon  cities!) Once, I had to sit through an entire church service at All Souls in damp clothes after stupidly getting wet!














The fourth plinth:  I am still gutted that the interactive organ which doubles as an ATM didn't win instead of this one- I voted for the latter!

Innocent sweet Lolita

I was recently the lucky winner of two giveaways!  One courtesy of the lovely Char and one from Intrinisically Florrie! I received both items within days of each other and thought I'd like to combine them in a post and say a huge thank you to both of them!

The lovely Char, who has a real eye for really cute, fun, quirky items and manages to team brilliant combinations of different garments together, sent me this wonderful blue clutch bag in the shape of a book- it is pale blue with a gold tassel and I adore how fun and different it is!  CBC keeps joking about it!

In Florrie's giveaway, I won something we all know I love- a hat!!!But this one is unique! designed by Florrie and created as part of the Big knit!

Florrie is the most absolutely beautiful blogger who wears Lolita outfits.  They are exquisite- a real feast for the eyes! I thought it would be fun to try and create a Kezzie interpretation of this (will be my one and only deliberate attempt at the Lolita style! I'd say it's a tenuous mix of Classic and Sweet Lolita ).  I don't know the rules exactly, they are quite strict apparently, and obviously haven't followed them too closely- but I thought I'd make a nod to Florrie's beautiful style!

I wore it to church on Sunday and got much appreciation for it! How nice to wear a petticoat in the daytime!

"Oh, what is that I spot in the top right photo?" I hear you cry!  Yes, indeed, it is my engagement ring!  It was the engagement ring my Dad gave to my Mum when he proposed to her- I was given it as my 21st birthday present.  I have always told CBC that I didn't want him to buy me a ring- and i think I drummed the point home enough for him to relent of his sense that he should buy me one. I have never worn this ring before this time and what's the point of having it if you don't wear it!?  Plus, I like the history of it, the fact that it is a daisy shape and the fact that CBC wont have to waste money on something so small as a ring!

School is winding down for most people except me! Today, I had a practice for the Christmas service at school, with Year 3 and Year 5 music lessons either side of it- REALLY pleased with the Year 5's- honestly, so happy with them!  All of them seem to know what homophony, polyphony and antiphony are and produced a nice arrangement of a Christmas song.

Tonight, my home-group delivered the Christmas hamper gift-bags to the hostel, which was really lovely- it was so nice to meet them! We all had a warm joy inside us after it! Even the rain stopped!
