TARDIS Tuesday- Clara Oswald from Robots of Sherwood- historical outfit

Hi there!

For TARDIS Tuesday this week, after a few weeks of Classic Who companions, I am returning to a modern Who companion- Clara, of course! But, in a surprise change from the modern, tight-fitting or short outfits she is usually known for, we have a historical outfit, worn in the episode, Robots of Sherwood, where Clara and the Doctor encounter Robin Hood.  She does start the episode wearing a modern outfit, which I have worn on this blog before, but this is the first time I have attempted her historical outfit.
Let's have a look at it:
S8E3: Robot of Sherwood (SPOILERS) 148594
https://whona.forumotion.com/t10012-s8e3-robot-of-sherwood-spoilers
It features a red/orange velvet dress with gold edging,it has long sleeves with drapy ends with undersleeves. It has a fitted bodice and the skirt is more flowing.

She wears a Topshop headchain and silver feather earrings.

And now, lets see what I came up with:

This is, as you can see, not a strictly accurate rendition, more of a nod to the original but it came after I found this Maid Marian dress in the charity shop. It was only £6 and I already thought, "Right, that's World Book Day next year sorted!".  The possibilities of it being a Clara dress also did occur to me!

I bought the gold feather earrings from a craft fair quite a few years ago.  The headchain posed a bit of a problem but I remembered this brooch I wore as an Amy Pond cosplay and figured I could fashion a headchain from it. I did try to hang it from a gold snakechain but it was SO slidy it kept falling off my head, despite hair grips so I attached it to a leather thong instead which, though looks less effective, did the job!

TARDIS Tuesday- The Husbands of River Song

Hello there!

Hope you are well!

This week is a busy one for me with rehearsals, school events and concerts every day and in fact, this continues into next week as well!

I am performing with Orchestra of the City on Friday in Holborn. It's the first time I have performed with the orchestra- my friend Debbie plays flute 2 with them and she asked me which I'm really pleased about!   We received an email on Saturday saying that the dress code was 'All Black with Sparkle'.

This made me very happy because I have a few contenders for this (actually cosplay related in several places) which would fulfil this criteria.

The first one of these is worn by River Song, played by Alex Kingston, in a Doctor Who Christmas special from a few years ago and is very sparkly and beautiful!

Although it is not completely black, I think you would get away with wearing this for a concert with the dress code.

I have not actively collected River Song clothing, it's often a bit too over the top and glam for me but I saw someone (who is a musician!) wear this dress on Instagram and I thought that I would love to own this as I would get use out of it for concerts and I thought the shape would work for me.  However, I didn't really ever search for it as I knew it was originally an expensive dress.
A couple of months ago, something made me have a search for it on Vinted and I found this one, priced at £5.00.  It was a size 12 which I wondered about. I am more of a 10 (sometimes 8, depending on stretch) on my top half but bottom half,am more of a 12.  I decided that at £5.00 (plus about £4.00 extra including postage and buyer protection), I could probably take a punt on it.  It arrived and I tried it on. AH, I loved how it looked but it is quite roomy on me though because it has formed cups over the chest area, I can get away with it though I would prefer to fill out those cups for it to feel totally secure.
I tried it on Saturday night in advance of the concert (still haven't decided on which I will wear) and CBC loved it!

It has quite a daring back so you can't really get away with wearing a bra underneath. I think you can see it's a bit big here.
I feel super glam here!  Should I go with this one, feeling a bit big (could always wear a short-sleeved black cardie on top) or should I go with something which fits me a bit better!
If I find this in a 10 or 8 at a reasonable price, I would definitely buy it!

Hope you are well!

World Book Day costume 2022

It was that time of year again yesterday, where schools across the country hosted dress up days to dress up as a character from a book of some sort. I was pleased my school sent out a message asking parents to try and use things they had already rather than worrying about going out to buy special costumes.  I did see some lovely creativity yesterday.

This year, I didn't have a clear idea of who or what I wanted to be until last Saturday morning where I decided I wanted to be Robin Hood!

I knew I needed a costume consisting of green and brown garments.

Firstly, I started with gathering some green and brown leggings I have-either pair would work for my bottom half but it would depend what shade of green I was to wear on my top half that would determine which pair would get the job.  All my green dresses and garments weren't really suitable- I knew I needed a sort of tunic and everything I had was too short or two frilly/modern-looking!

I headed to my local charity shop on Saturday morning to see if there was any suitable green garment or jacket of any sort but there was nothing suitable and we were heading off to Oxford to my Mother-in-Law's birthday party so I only had time to visit the one.  I DID, however, pick up a dark green, fake leather bag that would work as a quiver for my arrows!

Chatting to my Mum on the phone, she suddenly realised, she had an old, large green t-shirt of my StepDad's that she had chopped the sleeves off which might work and after she sent me a picture, I concurred so she kindly posted it to me to arrive for Monday!

When it arrived, I tried wearing it over the top of the brown linen shirt I've worn for my Clara and Missy cosplays and it worked well. To belt it, I wore my Mum's old brown leather belt I acquired a few years ago.  CBC decided that the green leggings were totally the wrong shades so I went with the brown and paired them with my dark green Ralph Lauren knee-high leather boots.

Tuesday night, in school, I had a frantic search for my Bow (alas, no arrows) which, in the whole upheaval of not being in my music room, had got buried.  Thankfully, I found it. I bought this from Hever Castle an age ago.

I intended to make myself a hat out of green felt or funky foam but the sized pieces I had were too small and I suddenly thought of a Monsoon green wool hat I have- perhaps I could safety pin the edges to the crown.  After a few false attempts, this was successful. I finally made a red paper feather to tuck in.

Wednesday night saw me cutting up a cardboard box into 10 arrows (I cut 20 cardboard strips and 20 triangles and used paper tape to stick these together and staples for the points, plus I fringed the ends.  At the last minute, I made a small dagger too.

One last minute idea was to add a small black velvet jewellery pouch to my belt.  I also compiled two bags of chocolate coins that CBC and I had received belatedly for Christmas from his sister on Saturday and I put them into a small hand-tooled green leather handbag I have (not pictured)

All day at school, the younger kids kept thinking I was Peter Pan though the older ones realised I was Robin Hood.

The costumes of other staff members were really good.

In year 6, they all dressed as characters from Louis Sachar's Holes book, which they are currently reading.

In Year 5, they dressed as Alice characters- a white rabbit and 3 cards.

In year 4, only one member of staff was in and she dressed as George from George's Marvellous medicine (I suggested this to her as she wasn't sure what to do by herself!)

In year 3, they all dressed as crayons as they have been reading, The Day the crayons came home.

In Year 2, they are reading The Twits, so they all came as different characters- there were 2 Mrs Twits and 1 Mr Twit and a Roly-poly bird (the PGCE student who had to do an observation with her tutor dressed like that). I was pleased as I helped her and she wore lots of my chiffon scarves (the ones I wore for my Rainbow Fish costume) attached to her skirt.  Also the other teacher was Fantastic Mr Fox.

IN year 1, the majority of staff dressed as The Grumpiest Ladybird plus one Witch.

SLT dressed as Willy Wonka characters with our Headteacher in the most exquisite Willy Wonka costume, made by his other-half.  He also took my suggestion to give out Wonka bars as prizes!

There were 4 Oompa Lumpas -the Deputy and Assistant Heads and then the School Business manager wore a handmade Golden Ticket dress.

I even managed to recruit myself a Maid Marion- one of the lovely TAs didn't have a costume and was very busy and I offered her my charity-shopped purple dress I wore as Guinevere in 2012.  I have covered her face here as I don't have her permission to use the picture and I don't really like telling people about my blog! She looked so pretty in it though!

Of course, I went to school dressed like this AND up to London to my Gamelan rehearsal.  I love freaking out business people and teenagers on the train when I dress in a funny manner!  It was an incredibly comfortable costume and the only purchase was my green bag which I may redonate again.

It's so fun to come up with a costume and I can't wait for next year to try and think of a new costume with things I've already got!
What would you wear as a book character?
I quite fancy dressing up as Saucepan man from The Magic Faraway tree next year. It would be easy to make lots of cardboard saucepans and string them up all over myself!

My 40th Birthday

 Hello Blog friends,

I never really do much for my birthday but this year, it happens to be my 40th birthday at the end of the month. The one year I might perhaps want to do something for my birthday and I can't.   I also feel incredibly gloomy about being 40.  Because I still think I'm 12 in my head.  And 40 seems to grown up.  People have expectations of things you should have done by that age, even if they don't voice them.  I don't want to be in my 40's so that's a bit sad.  So I had a little thought:

I love fancy dress parties and I love Doctor Who.  Now this might seem a bit self-centered, so please forgive me if this seems that way, I just thought it might be a bit of fun esp since I won't be able to have a celebration, but I'd love it if my blog friends wanted to join in with the TARDIS Tuesday the week of my 40th birthday.  If you felt able or willing to get involved in this, here's my idea:

You plan a costume based on things you have in your home, not buying anything for it, that might subtly (or not so subtly) be based on a Doctor Who character.  Then you post a photo of you on your blog on Sunday the 28th of February or Monday 1st March in your costume/outfit.  Then you add the link for your blog post to the comments of this post.  I should point out that the Doctor's TARDIS is a Type 40 TARDIS so my Tuesday post will be called the TYPE 40 TARDIS Tuesday.  I will then share the pictures of you in your TARDIS Tuesday outfit along with mine and I have an online fancy dress party with you guys!

If you need any inspiration, just have a look at my TARDIS Tuesday tag or google Doctor Who characters and look at google images

TARDIS Tuesday meets New Year's eve- triple outfits!

Hello there!

I hope you are well.  Well, it's all a bit crazy, isn't it.  Lockdown again.  My school was due not to open to anyone but key workers for the next 2 weeks anyway as my London borough has one of the highest Covid rates but still, the thought of not being back at school is a bit desolate.  I found online teaching (creating online lessons) hard last time and it was really good to be back in the classroom last term teaching practical music.  In case you are interested, I am taking the Year 5 key worker bubble on Thursdays and Fridays in a jobshare with the French teacher (she will do Mon, Tues, Wed)-we've got to teach the same lessons in person that the class teachers will be teaching via Zoom in person.  It seems we will have 10 children at the moment in year 5 but who knows how that will pan out.

Anyway, I'm feeling too anxious about that to talk about it at the moment so let's go onto something more pleasant:  New year's eve!

As we were about to start a board game, I sat there in my red Cashmere polo neck and jeans and suddenly thought, "I'm blooming well going to dress up!" So, I ran upstairs and in the space of 5 minutes, had changed into...

I started with my charity-shopped blue sequin skirt which hasn't been worn this year yet- I added a black Monsoon v-neck top and a cashmere charity-shopped black shrug.  I added my Esoteric London star tassel necklace and my Lorelai recycled bubblewrap earrings plus some Cobalt and gold peep-toe shoes.

This was lovely and getting dressed up made it feel really extra special.

BUT, after the takeaway, I was really stuffed and the waistband on my skirt is quite tight, so I decided to go for a quick-change into...

I kept the jewellery and shoes and changed into this satin blue jacquard dress. I bought this second hand for £10 from Lorelai who made the earrings a few years ago. MUCH more comfortable. It has a lovely low back which I forgot to photograph.

Later, just before the stroke of midnight, I decided to change one more time into another glam dress...

This dress is my TARDIS Tuesday entry in the trio- it is a a dress very similar to Clara's dress from Mummy on the Orient express. I've yet to have the opportunity to wear it out so this seemed a good one.

As usual, New Year's eve messed up my sleep patterns for the start of the year so that's not the best!
Which of my three outfits is your favourite then and why?  Did you wear your glam rags for a stay at home celebration? I must confess that dressing up glam really did make a difference!

TARDIS Tuesday- Yaz in Spyfall

Hello there!
Greetings!  We've just eaten a very late dinner of Lentil and sweet potato Dhal and a Rhubarb and apple crumble. CBC made the Dhal and I made the crumble. Most unwillingly,  I might add.
I have had a headache today and it has made me really grouchy so I did not want to make a crumble but was coerced into it.
Today, we went to our Vegetable Wholesaler to do our weekly/biweekly vegetable shop plus eggs. Happily, there was no-one else there except the owner and his wife.  We bought our next tray of 30 eggs as well as a big bag full of mini-new potatoes, 2 bundles of spinach, 3 peppers, 4 courgettes, a cardboard try of cherry vine tomatoes, a cabbage, cauliflower, 6 peaches, green beans, 2 aubergines, 4 lemons, 2 avocado, 2 garlic bulbs, onions and a few more bits.  We got chatting to the owners and as we left, the lady gave us two boxes of strawberries free which was really nice of them.  We then went to the garden centre to get some more canes and ended up coming home with a Fuscia bush, willow trellis, canes, a new watering can, a rhubarb plant and some French bean plants as my self-germinated ones are looking a bit sad and lack lustre!
Did some planting of bean plants when we got back and also planted 3 more tomato plants in the raised bed.
We've been eating our own rocket and lettuce the last couple of days which has been nice plus 2 radishes! I love it when we get to start picking our own food.  The blueberry bushes have blue-berries on them- they are currently green but soon....

Anyway, onto the main event!

TARDIS Tuesday features new Who character Yasmine Khan, probation Police Officer from the Series 12 first episode- Spyfall.
The Doctor and her companions are invited to a swish casino-party so they go kitted out in their finery.

I put together a collage of screen-shots from the episode to highlight Yaz's outfit:

She wears:
A black sequined jacket with satin lapels and a ribbon tie
White embelllished scallop collar top.
Silver bow necklace
Black trousers and black shoes
Curly hair in a high ponytail.

doc-c281

And here's my version:

I wore my usual black trousers (ASOS) and some Clarks men's black boots.
The sequinned jacket that Yaz wears comes from Paul Smith.  Mine was £5 from eBay with a satin tie from an old top of mine.
I'm quite excited to share the top as I managed to ID where Yaz's top came from- it's from Reiss and I managed to find one on eBay! To my knowledge, no one has IDed this! The scallop-detail is so pretty!
I had washed my hair on Sunday morning and put it into 2 plaits so when I got ready for a Zoom birthday party for a friend, I undid my plaits and put my hair into a high ponytail and it was all curly!
I couldn't find my Whitby jet bow necklace so instead, I wore my Alex Monroe bee necklace!

A different look for me, but I like it a lot!

What do you think?

World Book Day outfit 2020

Hello there!
I knew what I wanted to wear or make for World Book Day this year quite a long time ago.
Char shared this post of her amazing felt parrot costume
IMG_0637
Amazing costume made by Char!
http://www.trexesandtiaras.com/2019/08/diy-parrot-costume.html
and I decided, since I had a large piece of red felt and lots of smaller sheets of reds, oranges and yellows, that I wanted to dress up as a Phoenix or the Firebird.  Phoenixes feature in several books - E Nesbit's Phoenix and the Carpet, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix amongst others.  This is an idea, I've shared on my World Book day post because I was dressed as the Firebird at my music camp for a silly challenge some 12 years ago or so where we were the Order of the Firebird in the year it came out.

However, the reality of the situation was...
1. I'm really not good at sewing.
2. I don't have a sewing machine.
3.  I left it to the last minute
4.  I can't find the large piece of felt that was supposed to be my base.

So... on Friday last week, I decided to think of another way of making this costume.

It involved
1.  Cycling home with an absolutely enormous cardboard box, flattened and stuffed in my Brompton pannier.
2.  Taking, with permission, lots of offcuts of orange, yellow, red paper from school that are put on a shelf in case they fill in a gap.

And here's my costume:

Let me talk about what I did.
I had a look at some links on the internet after searching for 'cardboard bird costume' for inspiration (this one https://www.curbly.com/17490-colorful-cardboard-bird-costume-diy-for-halloween was quite good)

Next, I got CBC to measure my arms against my cardboard box and he then drew me a curved wing shape which I cut out twice.
I then made myself a curved feather shape template out of a cardboard scrap and proceeded to cut my 3 coloured papers into strips the length of the feather shape. I then piled 5-6 strips on top of each other and cut around the template- this meant it was much quicker than having to cut each one separately (and didn't bother drawing around it)
After they were all cut, I then started from the bottom of a wing and stuck feathers in rows on top of each other.  The process was repeated on the other wing. I just used Pritt Stick which meant the feathers stuck nice and flat.
It was very, very late on Sunday night by the time I finished that part so I didn't manage to do anything about how to attach them to me.

The next part of my costume took place on Tuesday evening on the train home from my orchestra in London (I say my orchestra- I've been playing with 4 orchestras recently but this is my most regular orchestra).

I was quite pleased to discover a red velvet fascinator base in my craft stash that I'd ordered ages ago (I mean at least 10 years) and forgot I had.  I then cut a beak shape out of orange felt and then some feather shapes from the other colours. I sewed these on and then I sewed three pieces of of thin elastic onto it to make it like a headband.  Don't look too closely as the thread got a massive knot in it and I never got around to trying to do something about it.  I didn't want to make a mask as I really dislike masks!

Very late on Wednesday night (as in 1.45am) after I'd returned from taking my school choir to the Royal Albert Hall and the train I was waiting for at 11.30am had broken down.... I searched for the orange and yellow clothes I could combine.  It's a pretty motley collection.
I DID buy a pair of orange trousers from the charity shop on Saturday for the costume but everything else - yellow blouse, red skirt, red leg warmers, red boots, red scarf -  were in my wardrobe already.

I took the orange cord from my Corduroy dress to school and then attached a bunch of yellow chiffon scarves (I use them with year 1 & Reception for dancing in music) to my waist so they hung like a tail.  I also remembered a pair of red crepe home-made pom poms from the Royal Albert Hall festival 6 years ago, which I'd saved and attached those with string to my shoulders.

The final, frustrating part was trying to attach the wings. I cut some cardboard strips and attached them with parcel tape and staples to the back (along with orange paper to cover the underside) but they KEPT falling off.  Suffice to say, I wore the wings for a very short amount of time as they were incredibly impractical and I couldn't teach year 1 music with them on!  Ah well!

A small note on Sustainability.  I think it is a great shame that there are SO many 'ready-made' costumes in horrid synthetic fabrics that get bought and wish people could/would have a go at making something.  A cardboard box can be made into MANY different costume ideas! It doesn't have to cost much, if anything!  This blog tutorial uses all old boxes to make a bird costume.

Our SMT team all made themselves Mr Men and Little Miss costumes out of cardboard boxes, coloured paper and paint and very good they looked too!

I LOVE the excitement of World Book Day and I really like dressing up but I DO get the stress of getting together a costume for parents but actually I do think it is really fun to try and make or cobble something together from what you've got or something from the Jumble sale/Boot sale or charity shop, not to go and buy something ready made (which I have never done!) .  Mags writes about it here and linked to this excellent article about it here on the Curiosity Approach.

It should be ABOUT the books, not JUST about the dressing up but I DO love the dressing up. My school likes to dress up but we do book activities during the day.  In Singing Assembly, I usually try to do a book themed song. This time, I ended up continuing with the Women's week theme and finishing teaching the song I'd written for them about Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, Rosalind Franklin and Marie Curie. I did, however, point them in the direction of a very good children's book about inspirational women.

I decided this year to construct some small costumes from cardboard so I can offer those to children who aren't able to dress up. In one year 2 class, my colleague used a piece of red paper to make a 'The day the crayons quit' costume for a child who had no costume- she made a red cone for his head and a sign to pin to his jumper which was red and said RED in black letters.
Another colleague made a wonderful costume which was a GOLDEN ticket from Willy Wonka.  She got a golden yellow pillow case and carefully drew a Golden Ticket illustration on it in black pen (she has beautiful writing) and she wore her golden highlighter make-up on her face.
I loved one girl's costume which was a cardboard box covered in white paper - she was a card from Alice in Wonderland.

Another little girl had a very special costume as her uncle was the illustrator of a picture book and she had dressed up as the little girl in the story and looked exactly the same!!! I was so excited when she showed me her book!

Here's my little niece who dressed up as Bob, a Street Cat.  She's wearing a costume of mine from when I was a child!  My sister always makes her costumes or reuses our own carefully kept dancing costumes.

I'd quite like to copy Bronte's costume here below- I have bear ears, a red hat wellies AND a duffle coat so I am tempted to use this as my inspiration next year!

Next year, I am planning to make some small cardboard costumes for children to wear who don't have a costume such a my Gingerbread House idea, my rainbow fish idea (my musical chiffon scarves are great for this), Alice in the House and a few others.

Did you acknowledge World Book Day in any way?

TARDIS Tuesday- Bill Potts promo and Extremis.

Hello there!
TARDIS Tuesday has been a little Clara heavy for the last few weeks.  So...today, I thought I would share her successor companion from the TARDIS- the inquisitive Bill Potts

When we first heard about Bill Potts, she was seen in a trailer.  Immediately, lots of people tried to ID and recreate her outfit, very successfully.  Then we were treated to some promo-pics from the series.

Again, many people IDed the items in the outfit quickly and put together outfits featuring the screen accurate items above.  The satin reversible bomber jacket and the stripy body-suit come from Topshop, Topshop jeans and the trainers are Vans.  She also wears a silver Guitar necklace and a yellow tie-dyed hairscarf.

This is probably the most iconic Bill outfit of them all but the garments above don't all feature in the same outfit actually on the show until the episode Extremis.  Bill also wears the bomber jacket several times in the series and she wears the rest of this outfit with a denim jacket in an episode called Smile!

And here's me posing with the TARDIS bird-feeder!

So, as you can see, I found the bomber jacket and the top!  This was an episode I never planned to put together originally.  But, I saw the bomber jacket being sold very expensively on a several occasions but when I saw it for £7.00 which no one else noticed, I ended up buying it- mainly because I LOVE reversible garments!!! I wore it with its pink side here.  The bodysuit was a more difficult matter.  It was only when @billpottsuniverse on instagram told me about a £5 for sale in a size 12, that I caved and bought it!  And I am glad I did as it is unbelievably comfortable without that annoyance I get, as a pear-shaped girl, where vest tops roll up from my larger sized hips to sausage around my smaller waist!  I just wore it with some cropped blue jeans as I didn't want to wear my fitted black trousers for a hot day. To recreate Bill's guitar necklace, I remembered a pair of silver guitar earrings I own and I hung one of them from a different necklace chain.  Oh and tied my hair up in a messy bun.

Admittedly, it is a bit of a strange outfit- I'd never choose to pair these items together but it kind of works.

What do you think?

World Book Day outfit 2019- Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them

This year, my World Book Day costume comes from a book within a book.  In Harry Potter, Harry receives a list of the books he is required to buy for his Hogwarts studies including a book called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them.  Back a long time ago, JK Rowling actually wrote her own book for Comic Relief (or was it Children in Need) as it if it was written by Newt. I remember buying it and reading it.

Now, in the last couple of years, the Harry Potter franchise has created films about the character Newt Scamander and his adventures looking for animals.   CBC had to dress up last year for Harry Potter night at his school as Newt Scamander and he dutifully put together a costume for it.  I declared at that point, that my World Book Day character was already sorted.

And here's me!

CBC bought the turquoise coat, the tan waistcoat and the scarf from various websites.
I'm wearing my own pair of tweedy trousers, white shirt and men's brown brogue shoes.

If you can see a green creature attached to my lapel, that is a Bowtruckle which my Mum crocheted for CBC last year.  He's super cute.

The suitcase came from Sarah Nelson Gingerbread in Grasmere and we filled it with various animals including
Ones we already owned:  Owl, Fox, Squirrel, Foxsquirrel, Crab
Bought for 1 sickle a piece at Harry Potter night:  Another Bowtruckle, 2 Nifflers, 1 Pygmy Puff.

It was great fun to get dressed up like this and I found the sideways glances on the train amusing!
Lots of the children at school knew who I was straight away. Others, mainly younger, were not sure.  It was fun opening up my case and sharing the animals with the children.

Lots of the other teachers made a great effort. Other costumes included:  Wizard of Oz Year 5: 2 witches, 1 Lion, 1 Dorothy, 1 Scarecrow, How to train your dragon Year 4:  Hiccup the Viking and Toothless,  Year 6: Alice in Wonderland: Queen of Hearts, Alice (wearing my dress), Mad Hatter, White Rabbit; Year 2: Snow White x 2, SMT:  Peter Pan and Tinkerbell,

I'd love to know if you dressed up and what you were?

TARDIS Tuesday- Romana from City of Death

Hi there!

I hope that you are well.  I am fine!  Today, I am sharing a dress up/costume/cosplay which is from one of my all time favourite classic Doctor Who episodes!
City of Death is a highly entertaining episode from Tom Baker's tenure. It features my favourite Classic Who companion Romanavoratredelundar or Romana for short or Fred!
In this episode, the Doctor deals with Scaroth, an alien who crashlanded on Earth at the very beginning of Earth which kick starts the beginning of human life, so it is like the catalyst to life.  But Scaroth is splinted through time as it happens and he longs to be whole again. So, he's managed to get one of his time splinters to get Leonardo Da Vinci to paint 6 copies of the Mona Lisa so he can raise money to create some sort of time machine. Or something like that. It's around 12 years since I last saw it!

Romana is sporting a very costumey outfit that looks like one of the Chalet School or Malory Towers girls on a school trip out!

I've had most of the components of this outfit, or rather, a variation on it but I lacked one element really...the red tie!

Here's my outfit. It's navy blue, rather than black but what's a shade of difference amongst friends.

I'll start with the dress.  I bought this a good few years ago from a shop called Kush clothing near my old childhood home which stocked Closet London dresses.    When they were closing down, they sold the dresses super cheap! I picked up this navy Pinafore dress for either £5 or £10, I forget which!

The shirt, I have also had for a good few years bought from ASOS as I had a voucher and didn't know what to by but I've barely worn it as it didn't fit me very well and I didn't really like the way it looks but stupidly forgot to return it. I kept it though, meaning to customize it or sell it.    Either I've put on weight since buying (I have) or it's the fact it is under a Pinafore but I rather like the way it looks here.

The white tights are incredibly old and they were a pair of my Mum's ballet tights from about 20-30 years ago or so perhaps.  They don't fit me very well as my legs are longer than hers and my waist is a bit small for them so I have to hold them up with shorts) but I've kept them as they are good for costumes.

My red shoes are also at least 5 if not 8 years old from Red or Dead in the Sale from Schuh. One of Buckles has broken off sort of but I can still wear them.

Penultimately, the hat belonged to my Nan and I found it when we cleared out hers and Grandad's house and laid claim to it instantly. Apparently, she bought it from the Redbridge show back in the 90's when it was unexpectedly too hot!

So, the only relatively new item in the outfit is the red tie.
Well, when we cleared out WOMOTM's house, as I alluded to in last week's TARDIS Tuesday, I snaffled his vintage tie collection as no one else who was able to get there wanted them. The red tie was the one I mainly wanted for this outfit.

To complete this outfit, I need to make a sweetie brooch and maybe add a removable School badge but I am not sure I'll bother- that makes it just that bit TOO costumey!

What do you think?

And would you like to see CBC's costume?

Yes, he is the Swimmer being attacked by a Shark!

What do you reckon?

If you were going to an S party what would your ideal costume be if you could get it/make it?  What would you costume be like me, that came from your own wardrobe?

xx

P.S.  How many S's are there in this post?
