TARDIS Tuesday- Ang's Handiwork- Clara from The Magician's Apprentice

Hello there!

I am back from holidays and have had a really great time off. This holiday, I really have been busy the entire holiday. I only had 3 full days at home-one of those spent packing, one doing housework and recovering from horrid late night plane delay and one doing school work- today in fact- it's not enough, now having a bit of a panic about school work! I started writing my Pennine Way post but it's an epic and taking ages so I thought I'd post the TARDIS Tuesday I forgot to post last week.

It is a special one because it features one of the wonderful Ang Almond's fantastic adaptations and it's been quite a while since I last wore it. In fact, since June 2019 worn here (worn without jacket)! I am totally shocked!

Here's the outfit:

https://wornontv.net/51844/
It features a green satin pearl-print dress (with collar) from &Other Stories.  She pairs it curiously with a grey merino wool jumper from J Crew, a black leather jacket from &Other Stories also, purple/navy tights, black socks and black lace up boots from Topshop.  It's apparently a school outfit though I'm mystified why you'd wear a satin dress for school!!

Here's my latest version with some side-by-sides with Clara!

The main star of the outfit is, of course, the aforementioned satin dress.  &Other stories also made a version of this dress that was shorter and without a collar with longer sleeves. I bought the alt version of the dress and Ang adapted it for me by adding a collar made from the sleeves and with backing from another piece she had adapted for me.
The dress rarely gets seen without the jumper and jacket so I actually thought I'd share it here in its various forms so you can admire her work. In fact, I wore it without the jumper for church on Easter Sunday with a belt to give it a less sack-like shape (not flattering on me). I really like it on its own belted as did CBC who admired it (and didn't realise it was a Clara piece).
I do not own the correct leather jacket and to be honest, I won't do- I don't have use for more than one jacket of this type. Instead, I wore her All Saints Axelle black denim jacket which is close enough for Jazz.
I added an alternative grey Clara jumper (she has 3!) which was a cropped marled one from Topshop and it looks quite nice I think, better than the J Crew one.

I added some very old but nice Oasis purple tights (purchased at least 10 years ago and to my dismay, laddered them!) and either the same or similar Topshop boots.
You'll notice the hair cut I presume? I had it cut for the Pennine Way as could not be faffing with long hair!
You may notice that I am wearing a different sweater in this photo! It is the J Crew sweater but in a biscuit colour. Bought in error but I think the short grey looks better!

I really liked this iteration of this outfit, it's my favorite so far and it made me keen to give the dress a show again soon! Probably not for school though...however, I could try it and see what reaction I get!?

Hope you are well and stay tuned for Pennine Way updates soon!

TARDIS Tuesday- Revolution of the Daleks florals from Yaz

Hello Campers!

I hope you are well!

I thought after a couple of weeks of Clara, it was time to pay Yaz Khan another visit. Featuring an outfit, I last wore it in February 2021, it is a fleetingly seen outfit from Revolution of the Daleks

It features a lovely floral shirt from Whistles, worn with a pink vest, black trousers and black boots together with a black leather jacket and Alex Monroe floral initials, Y and Z.

Here's my look!
I started with the floral shirt- the same one from Whistles, which I was the first person to ID! It's such beautiful material- light and comfy.  I decided to wear it with my ubiquitous ASOS black trousers and in this case, Clarks men's black boots.
I wore this charity shopped fake leather jacket which I bought for £2.25 in my local Baptist church charity shop- I didn't have this last time I wore this outfit back in 2021.
Finally, I added my silver-card letters which I made to mimic the Alex Monroe ones.
I was going to wear my Avon Lacey K & Z initials but I can't find the K! Oh where is it!!?!!!

2 years on, I STILL haven't seen anyone else where this outfit even though I know 2 people who own it! Tis annoying!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday- Flatline

For TARDIS Tuesday, I am featuring an old favourite- quite a casual old favourite, but one that I have worn many times on this ere blog!

I last featured this cosplay on the blog in October 2019 and it has featured quite a few times but was first featured in October 2014, almost 9 years ago!

Image borrowed from this Facebook

The episode itself, from 2014, was BRILLIANT! Such a clever premise- creatures from a 2-dimensional world trying to get into our 3-dimensional one.  It had some seriously scary moments and some comic genius, especially where Clara discovers the TARDIS has shrunk!

It featured an H&M blue and red checked shirt, a Khaki and black biker jacket from The Kooples, Ash-wedged trainers, black skinny jeans and a gold-mandala style necklace (which I have NO IDEA how anyone could see or even ID!)

Confession: I absolutely love my original 2014 post of this, even though it wasn't particularly accurate- there was something fun about my posts that I don't seem to be able to achieve in my posts so well now, looking almost 10 years older!

Anyway, I tried to have a little of the storyline in these photos:

I wore this for a Sunday at home (plus a visit to the COOP)- I was SO tired after my concert day on Saturday and getting home around 1am, that I achieved very little.

The H&M shirt is a super soft but light flannel which feels very nice to wear. I remember searching for SOOOO long to find the Screen-accurate shirt as H&M have made loads of shirts in this combination of colours over the years. My original was a brighter blue and more fitted- I really liked it though it became a bit small in the end.
The coat is the same Kooples one and I was lucky to find it early on in my Clara 'career' for a very reasonable price for what is a £400 jacket. I confess I don't wear it that often as I always worried about rain so I tend to wear my coats with a hood more regularly...I think it actually has a hidden hood so perhaps it is the season for it coming up!
Have you spotted the very same trousers and Ash wedged trainers from last week's Clara cosplay?  They are one and the same.

My TARDIS is in fact a ceramic cookie jar which I bought from the original Doctor Who exhibition when it was in London. I had to sit with it under my feet when my sister and I went to see Billy Elliott at the theatre after it! If I were any good at computer-wizardry, I'd photoshop a hand coming out of the TARDIS! Ha!

This Tuesday, I won't have any orchestra! Hurrah! My concert went really well on Saturday.

It was a concert of different emotions. Our wonderful leader, Cory is moving to a new city so it was her last concert as leader.  She's also done so much to run the orchestra and her husband has been a wonderful part of it too. After losing our wonderful conductor last year, it's really sad to be losing her.  The concert was supposed to be conducted by a guest conductor I know well, Sam but he caught Covid and had to pull on Tuesday and a wonderful conductor called Orlando took over (even though he didn't know one of the pieces, Poulenc Sinfonietta well.). He did a really good job and we liked his conducting very much.

One of the pieces we performed was Beethoven's Triple concerto (for Violin, Cello and piano) and the soloists were dynamic and exciting- they made a gorgeous sound.

Lots of old friends of the orchestra came to watch and we had a large audience including our former 1st oboist Suzy who I had mentioned to, that it was Cory's last concert.  It was the first time I've seen her since our last pre-Covid concert in March 2020, though we have communicated through Insta.

The performance went very well, despite us wind-players experiencing unexpected terror in the first piece, Faure's Masques et Bergamasques- not sure why we were all scared!

In between the rehearsal and concert, the wind players all went to a lovely Thai buffet on Portobello road called Brown Rice. I made the plan and they were all pleasantly surprised by this place as it meant there was no hanging around ordering food, no waiting for the bill, you paid as you went in. A very reasonable £12 got you an Eat as Much as you Like Buffet. It meant we got back to the church in plenty of time rather than the usual panic!

After the concert, we had a reception for Cory where they were presented with a fine double music stand from the Early Music shop.

Alas, there were Engineering works on our local line so we had to make alternative arrangements which added a lot of extra time to our journey. We were, however, incredibly lucky that we managed to get a Central line train immediately and get straight on our final train without a big wait. We were, however, exhausted by the time we got home at around 1am! Yawn!

Hope you are well.

TARDIS Tuesday- Bill Potts outfit from Smile

Hi there,

Hope you are well.

Today, for TARDIS Tuesday, I am returning, for a second time in recent times, to an outfit worn by Bill Potts, companion to the 12th Doctor. As I mentioned 2 weeks ago, Bill Potts' style is quite different from my own regular style but I ended up obtaining one or two of her screen accurate pieces very cheaply so decided to give a few of her outfits a spin!

The outfit featured in her second episode which was entitled, Smile. In this episode, the Doctor and Bill ended up in a place that had robots that spoke with Emojis. They seemed oh-so-friendly at first, but only if you keep smiling!

Let's look at her outfit:

https://www.shopyourtv.com/doctor-who-season-10-episode-2-bills-striped-bodysuit/

It seemed a bright and happy outfit for what seemed a bright and happy place.
She began with a colour-blocked stripe bodysuit from Topshop. With it, she wore ripped skinny black jeans (poss.also Topshop).  Her feet featured mint green and white hightop trainers from Vans and she had a bleached colour denim jacket from Topshop (mainly tied around her waist).  For accessories, she wore a mustardy-patterned hairbow and a silver guitar necklace.

https://www.geekgirlauthority.com/bill-potts-doctor-who-companion-fashion-hero/

And over to my version of this outfit. I did a slight variation on this outfit (from promo photos but there are differences) but this is the first time I have put together this outfit

As you can see, I did find the screen accurate bodysuit.  When I was an early teenager (Maybe 12), I had a bodysuit. It came from a shop in Ilford called Bacon's.  It was a marled blue colour with fitted short sleeves. It was really uncomfortable- the bodysuit buttoning up bit. I thought I would wear another bodysuit again but this one is amazingly comfortable and I like the bodysuit buttoning up meaning the top stays where it should (with my pear-shape, often fitted tops end up riding up and sausaging around my smaller waist.
Ripped jeans or skinny jeans shall never grace this body so as usual, we have my black ASOS work trousers.  These are considerably more snug on me than when I first bought them which I am not happy about. I like these trousers and do not want to have to replace them!
Instead of Bill's mint trainers, I wore my black hightop Ash black trainers (Clara shoes).  I added my charity shopped denim jacket (bought for Yaz originally).
I wore a Black floral wired headband (as I LOST my mustard one out on a walk in Brightlingsea in 2020!) I could not locate my silver guitar necklace so I wore a red glittery star instead.

And that's that! Hope you have a good week. As I type this up on Sunday evening (11.30pm eek- better get to bed!!!!! Bang goes that early-to-bed resolution!), I wish you a peaceful week.

TARDIS Tuesday- Yaz Khan from It Takes you Away

Hi there,

I'm sorry I've not been on here for a couple of days. I am so thoroughly sick of staring at a screen and using computers that I just couldn't bear to go near it! Today has been tiresome. I think the thing I find most annoying about preparing about these online lessons is that it is so inefficient-  I spend SO much time on them and though what I get in return from the children is negligible and seems not worth the effort, this is not the annoying part: it is the sheer frustration that I would be able to teach these lessons in person in an hour (to each class), being able to give instant feedback, improve playing, assess them,  be able to explain in a child-friendly way if they don't understand something.  Whereas in the current situation, I expend all this energy trying to create a presentation that is easy to navigate, contains multimedia, allows for different abilities, isn't so massive, can actually be uploaded that gives enough work but not too much and then I can't really see what the children are producing from it as I don't know how they can upload videos (and the size is unwieldly and the amount of time to type feedback to each individual if they DID, would be unmanageable).  It was so annoying that I'd prepared my Year 6 lesson powerpoint with everything they needed, recorded audio instructions and examples and when I uploaded it to Googledrive, I couldn't hear ANY of the audio- it hadn't attached any of it! So annoying!

I feel like I am wasting my time and not achieving much and  that makes me struggle to be even more efficient because I hate feeling so inadequate.

Ah, any way, enough of that, that's why I don't really want to be on the screen. I've got loads I want to blog about but things that take a bit of time and thought so I am resorting to something easy- talking about an outfit.

This week's TARDIS Tuesday is another Yaz Khan outfit. This one is entirely a closet cosplay as in I haven't bought anything specifically aimed at this cosplay, it's things I had for other cosplays or in my wardrobe anyway.

Let's have a look at it. Yaz wore this outfit for the episode called It takes you away which was the first programme to feature a blind actor as a main part.

She wears her brown All Saints jacket along with a cream/oatmeal jumper, blue jeans and her Dune burgundy flatform Pacey boots and her hair in buns.

I decided that it would be fun to recreate these three poses in my outfit.

When I wore it:  Friday for doing my school work in (photos taken at lunchtime)
I'll talk you through it.
My brown leather jacket is probably the work house of my TARDIS Tuesday wardrobe- it has been worn for various outfits on here- Clara (it's her jacket), Sarah Jane Smith, various Yaz. Not bad for  £6 eBay purchase.
My other accurate-ish item are my boots, they are the same model and brand as Yaz's, Dune, but in black- they are Chelsea brogue boots- I've worn them a few times before.
The jeans are not the same colour as Yaz's but as we all know here, I am not really a big Jeans-wearer so I am wearing these M&S sequin jeans that I bought from M&S, Angel Islington in my last year at uni so they are 19 years old. They fit well and are in excellent condition.

The final item is the jumper here. I was bought this cute rabbit jumper from ASOS by my beloved Father in Law many years ago now after he saw it on a blog wishlist. It was an easy matter to wear it backwards to show its cream side.

I was having big hair issues. I tried to recreate Yaz's hair style but the buns kept falling out, they ended up rather like cones in the end as they gradually stretched away from the grips that held them in place. I ended up removing the pins about 10 mins after these photos and just having the sides up in bunches (which still looked alright) as it looked ridiculous in my school videos!

It was fun to recreate the pictures and this was a comfy outfit.  Rather bland and boring for me but good for hunching over a computer!

Hopefully, I'll have something more exciting next week! Will get planning!

What do you think?

Hope all is well with you. DO share your computer woes to make me feel that I am not alone in this computer ennui!

TARDIS Tuesday - Clara Oswald from Nightmare in Silver.

Hello there!

Today, for TARDIS Tuesday, I am sharing an outfit I have featured twice before- like today, I've subsequently upgraded the look. You can see the later one here, the first one is here (it took me SOOOOOOOOOO long to find that post! It didn't have a tag.)

It is from a Series 7 episode called Nightmare in Silver

Image borrowed from
Clara Oswald Cosplay.com

 Clara wears:
  • Asymetric denim jacket from All Saints- uber expensive originally!
  • Sessun tomato collared merino wool top in black
  • Silence and Noise carnation skirt
  • Black tights
  • Luftwaffer cap badge
  • Black suede wedged shoes- F Troupe

And here's this time's version:

I'm rather pleased with this look!

Let's start with what HASN'T changed:
The skirt was bought a while back- it was the first item I had for this outfit. It's a cute flippy skirt but I feel more comfortable wearing it over leggings rather than tights so I did.

Let's look at the top which is hidden under the jacket through most of the episode:

My top comes from Boden and is an excellent alternative to the real top- they are almost identical except the red is not as tomatoey!
I am wearing different boots from last time as I couldn't find the ones I usually wear.

And then the newest item in my collection is the All Saints Jacket!!!
This originally retailed at £190.  There is no way I would ever spend that.
I liked the jacket but I didn't like it enough to spend much money on it.  I had a £2.50 charity shopped fake leather alternative version- I wasn't actively seeking to buy it.
Once, I saw one for sale for £35 which is incredibly cheap for this- most people I know have paid more than £70 for it.  I ummed and ahed about it but I didn't care enough about it to spend that.
Then, about a month ago, I just happened to search for it (ok, it's the treasure hunt element I like about this!) and saw a size 10 for £11.  I thought, "Ah...I'll just make a bid and then run away".  On the day, I thought I might perhaps glance at it last minute.  I forgot.  I suddenly remembered and thought, "Ah, there's no way it won't have been bidded on." but lo and behold, in my email later, I saw I'd won it for £11!

Finally, I'd never managed to find a way to attach the German Luftwaffe cap badge (a £2.50 eBay find a few years ago)  but someone showed me you could bend the prongs around a safety pin. I tried it and then attached my Magnapin (a way of using a magnet to stop you making holes in clothes from Brooch pins) and it worked a treat! Next time I'll attach it in the right place!

And there we have Nightmare in Silver.
I wore this (mostly without the jacket as I was indoors) for a lazy day at home. It is cosy, soft and comfy.

What do you think?

TARDIS Tuesday- Clara Oswald's 70's echo from The Name of the Doctor

This week's TARDIS Tuesday is a bit of an obscure one.  But you probably realised by now, that I like the obscure ones!

So, here is the opening sequence of The Name of the Doctor, the finale of Series 7 of Doctor Who.
We were FINALLY going to find out why Clara Oswald was the impossible girl and the Doctor had met her three times.

We see Clara crop up mysteriously with all the old, classic doctors and we wondered why.
At 0:46 and 0:54, we see a Clara in a very 70's-looking outfit.

I've wanted to do this one for ages but not got around to it!

Let's start with that first view!

So, here we see the top of Clara.  To be honest, I was partially waiting for my hair to grow.

My blouse is a Topshop one.  You have no idea how many brown floral blouses I looked at in the quest to find a suitable one!

I added another Clara item I already have- a brown leather jacket from Into The Dalek. Hers is suede with shoulder patches but a brown jacket will do me.

Next, I added a pair of dangly earrings. I have many so any would do!

The headband was a bit annoying as I had the perfect orange and brown scarf but I cannot find it for the life of me.  Instead, I noticed this old brown and orange Paisley tie of WOMOTM's which I snaffled (along with other vintage ties) when we cleared out his house.  CBC didn't want it so I saved it.  I suddenly saw how it would work as a headband!

Let's move onto the full-length outfit.
So, you can see those patches I mentioned.
She is also sporting a brown button-down skirt but I couldn't seem to find my (different coloured) button skirt so instead, I just added a black skirt.
Grey tights and my knee-high, very dilapidated brown boots finished the look.

When CBC saw me wearing this for church on Sunday, he laughed and asked if I was dressed as Ace (7th Doctor companion).  I said, "No!" and his rejoinder was, "Well, why are you dressed so retro?".  He was most surprised when the answer was, "Clara!"

What do you think of this outfit?

Is there any part of it you could see yourself in or is it all bit too Brown for you!?

TARDIS Tuesday- Bill Potts from Pyramid at the end of the world

Hi there,

I somehow missed TARDIS Tuesday yesterday.  I didn't get home late but I somehow didn't get around to writing the post. So it is a tardy TARDIS Tuesday.

This week, I thought I would give Bill Potts, the 12th Doctor's last companion another go.  I have used Bill three times for TARDIS Tuesday now and here's another one.

Bill's style is very different from mine. It is very sporty, contemporary, casual and boyish but with little feminine touches.  The outfit she wore in The Pyramid at the end of the World is no exception.  This was a clever episode which was part of a trilogy of episodes.

I did struggle to find a full-length image of Bill in this outfit so we will just go with a top-half image.

She wears this Topshop reversible jacket (which she actually wears in a few episodes but mostly with the OTHER side of the jacket together with a black ribbed turtle neck top and a nice starry lariat necklace.  I'm pretty sure she is wearing black jeans.

Image result for bill potts pyramid at the end of the world
Image borrowed from WornonTv.net
And since the image was quite an easy one to recreate, I decided to do just that!

Me not smiling is NOT a good photo look!
I did manage to find the exact same jacket of Bill's.  I remember when they first showed the trailers for this series, Bill is wearing this exact jacket and so many a cosplayer went out and paid full price for it from Topshop or from secondhand sellers who knew what they had.   I had no intention of buying it since it isn't really my style BUT, I have this curious attraction to reversible garments.  I don't know what it is but I really, really like them and I remember buying a dress full price from Whitestuff because it was reversible.  When I discovered the jacket was reversible, it attracted me and actually, since I've had it, despite it being totally not my style, I really like it.  I bided my time and ended up buying it second-hand for £7.  CBC cannot understand it and is incredibly rude about this jacket whenever I wear it saying I am only wearing it because it was in Doctor Who and it is disgusting!
Aside from a cup of tea, I added an old Primark black polo-neck and black trousers. Annoyingly, I have a really pretty lariat necklace I bought when I was 19 but I could not seem to find it when I was wearing this on Sunday so I wore this butterfly lariat necklace a work colleague gave to me when I left the Royal Academy of Music 14 years ago.  I will never forget this lovely present as she customised a Dairylea cheese box, covering it in an old Academy prospectus and stapling a 3d butterfly to the lid- it was such a sweet present
I thought I'd share the back view of the jacket too- it is embroidered with a Tiger!  At my old church, we are having a cabaret evening on Saturday and aside from my flute trio playing, I am joining in with a Grease medley so I shall wear this jacket for my Pink lady role!

I needed a simple cosy, comfy outfit on Sunday and this certainly provided that!

What do you think? Are you on CBC's side with this jacket or do you also have a soft-spot for it like me?

Just call it my funky flying jacket...not my itchy cardigan!

Hi there!
Hope you are well.
I'm fine today although I am getting a sore throat so frantically drinking liquids (as opposed to solids?) to assuage it.

I thought I'd share a little outfit from before Christmas which I was quite fond of.

The glittery sweater was one I picked up from Primark in November- it's a really nice glitter effect but ISN'T ITCHY!  The holy grail of glittery clothes. I don't know about you, but I've always had a complete aversion to certain types of clothing or materials that are itchy.
As a child, I always complained of itchy labels that drove me mad in certain items of clothing.  I think that is definitely a problem of the past as this rarely happens nowadays.

Another much-hated item was a white cardigan that my Dad and Step-Mum bought me (and my sister had one) to wear over at their house with white blouses and a red skirt.  Oh I LOATHED it- it just aggravated my skin and I constantly complained about that itchy cardigan. My stepmum ended up talking of that dratted sweater some time last year and it was so funny hearing her tell of how utterly awkward I was over it and how it drove her mad!  In the end, they bought me a non-itchy white jumper which I was contented with.
This comes to mind because I bought a lovely pair of Per Una trousers in the final 70% off sale from M&S last week. I say lovely but I was scratching all day Friday and had to wear the egregious things until about 12am which was roughly when we got to Hexham from Newcastle!
CBC complained when we reached Hexham about how I really didn't need to let the whole train carriage now how itchy my trousers were which apparently I did...
I digress... back to this outfit. The skirt was charity-shopped in March (£2) and there is nothing itchy about it or the sweater.
The utter prize of this outfit is the sheepskin jacket however. Sheepskin is blessedly natural and thus  un-itchy! I have wanted a genuine sheepskin coat for at least 15 years but they are very expensive and often too big for my narrow shoulders. Thus, when I spotted this in the Dog's Trust charity shop in the next town to us, I pounced on it eagerly. English-made and actually fits my shoulders. It cost £25 second-hand but considering how much these cost new and how immaculate it was, it didn't take long for me to part with my currency.   It is wonderfully cosy and a dream coat.

How are you in itchy fabrics?  Anything you can't stand?
Have you found your longed for charity shop item yet?

Nocturne in black and gold: the falling rocket

Whistler- Nocturne in black and gold: the falling rocket

I love this painting by Whistler- Nocturne in black and gold: the falling rocket. At first glance, it looks dark and mainly black but you look more closely at this and it is full of so many hues of blue as well as the beautiful fireworks. I'd love to see it in person.

It is this week's choice for Style Imitating Art with Salazar at 14 shades of grey.

If you don't know the premise of Style Imitating Art, Salazar, Jess or Jen take it in turns fortnightly, to pick a painting. They post it on their blog and then anyone who wishes to take part then puts together an outfit and sends it to whoever is hosting that week and they put together a post of all the looks. It is so fun and inspiring to see the different takes on the look- it is surprising how diverse we get! I've taken part fairly regularly for a good few years now, at least 3 years (just checked, since September 2012), if you look at my Style imitating art label, you'll see a variety

So here's how I interpreted it.  My galaxy dress resembles a night sky of fireworks so I took that as my centre and wore it with a black top underneath, black cardigan over it and black blazer over the top (yep, got that layering for church) with a cashmere scarf.   Silver sequin ballet pumps were a further nod to the glittery nature of fireworks in the sky.

Couldn't be bothered to adjust the exposure on these photos and try and make them more flattering so you get the knackered old bag look today!

My mum came over today (thank you for taking the photos Mummy) and helped me sort out the garden stuff ready for moving. We emptied all the pots and planters of their compost and emptied the entire compost heap onto the one bed at the back. It is really high. Seems such a shame but I can't take it with me. The landlord is going to have some really nourished earth there. Hope he doesn't look too closely and see all the bunny poo under the surface which was in the compost heap from my smuggled poo shenanigans from last summer.  We've lined up all the pots and canes and things to go against the back of the house. Also lined up the strawberry plant, raspberry, mint, then Olive and fig tree and the lavender in the bicycle planter.  It was a real help to get that done. It was so kind of her to make the time to come over and do this, particularly as she's in agony with some awful lower back problem which is making it hard for her to walk. It was so nice to see her as well. Never underestimate the joy of being with your mum!

I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and worried about the move at church today over the packing and all the admin of man with van etc and worries over whether I was causing issues for the people whose house we're moving into. Two friends, a couple, whose daughter I bonded with over Doctor Who were so lovely to me.  They gave me honest, loving hugs (the kind that really make you feel better, you know they really mean the hugs) and tried to think how they could help.  Later tonight, they phoned and said that He had talked to another church guy and said that they'd organise a few of the men to bring cars and hire a van and help us move. It was so giving and kind and thoughtful of them to think of it. I was so touched.  I stressed over the decision (as I do with most things). In the end, I decided I would go  ahead with booking my man with van (for various reasons) but wasn't that a wonderful kind gesture. It really touched my heart and made me think of how loving and sacrificial that was of them. They've often done similar things to people not only in the church, but in the wider community, to strangers or people who need help. Moving house for people, painting the fences of a school, cutting all the hedges of a residential care home and many more humble gestures of support.

Our new abode is currently having electrics rewired and new windows at the back done. It will probably still be in process as we arrive with maybe a lot of dust and chaos, so I am doubly grateful that the people who are renting to us (church friends) have been so kind as to let us rent it even though it is causing undue stress to them. I'm anxious about stressing them out and worried they're regretting letting us move in and just anxious in general, so if you do have the time, please keep it and us in prayers. Or general positive thoughts if you're not of the former kind.   I know to trust in the Lord, but I find it hard not to stress anyway, the thoughts do seem to dance into my head uninvited.

Hope you have the best of weeks.

BEDM 12 - It's a question of WHO?

Doctor 6 and 7
I'm back... and it's about Time!
I've switched my BEDM topics so Thursday's one is today  (Fashion, style or Beauty- tenuous) and vica-versa as TARDIS Tuesday must stay!

I was super excited to reach this week's TARDIS Tuesday as I received a wonderful present through the post.

Dear Ang, at Tracing Rainbows saw my allusion in a previous TARDIS Tuesday post to wanting question marks embroidered on my lapels like Peter Davidson's 5th Doctor (Who) and offered to embroider them for me on her super whizzy embroidery machine!  I excitedly posted my white concert shirt I have had since I was 14 off to her and she embroidered it with red question marks AND added red to the collar.
Doctors 6 and 7
You can see it from various angles! I am SO delighted with it- SO many TARDIS Tuesday possibilities.
When I started putting this outfit together, I wanted something coherent and not TOO costumey as I was going to wear it to school BUT I wanted something bold.

Image borrowed from Tansyrr.com Yay, a blogger I follow!
Thus, I took 6th Doctor, Colin Baker, who also had question marks on his lapels, as my inspiration.  I know I don't look like him, but the longer coat with red emphasis, plus the lapels; stripy, albeit blue stripy trousers and a loud-patterned waistcoat (tank) .

There are many references I DON'T have in here, like the cat brooch, rainbow styling (darn it, should have included my rainbow umbrella!), bright coloured spats on shoes, cat brooch, polka dot neck-tie, louder stripy trousers,  checkered and patterned clashes, pocket chains but that's the beauty of this TARDIS Tuesday milarkey- I have years to perfect, refine, alter, change or embellish an outfit once I've exhausted original ideas!

Only one staff member guessed what the lapels were about but the children loved the tank and the question marks.  And that, my dear friends, for me, is enough success!

  • With HUGE thanks to Ang for her wonderful embroidery (hmmm, wonder if that machine does fairisle-style question marks too..... ;-)   )
  • A nod to my illustrious leader, Maricel over at TARDIS Tuesday headquarters
  • A nod to Creative Mondays guru- Claire Justine
  • A look at all of you!  If you have something British blue or perhaps Doctor Who inspired, head over to Maricel and link up.  Sometimes there is a little crowd of us WHO are inspired and sometimes, it's me and some random linkers who don't allude to DW or TT in their posts at all!  But still, it's nice to link up there together!  And if you wear black opaque tights, a short dress from Topshop, chances are you might look like Clara Oswald from DW, wear blue and you can be TARDIS blue. Or be random fangirl tenuous Cosplay like me! But I'd love to see you over there!

Umbrellas on the Sele

Thank you for your kind comments on my Photo Scavenger Hunt.  As you could probably tell, I was in Northumberland till Tuesday, now I am back!

Easter Sunday,  I had attended a joyful, packed Easter service at Hexham Abbey with my lovely Mother in law, J, and I was wearing the lovely birthday present, an Emily and Fin dress she had bought me (not shared on the birthday blog post as it hadn't arrived then).  She commented on how nice it looked at which point, I cheekily said, "In which case, you had better be my official photographer!".  She very gleefully (possibly tongue-in-cheek?)  said she'd be delighted!

I was really glad that the Abbey backs onto the Sele, a beautiful park in the centre of Hexham that has a delightful quaint old-feel about it.  We headed into there and she soon proved herself a great photographer, not impatient, suggesting different places and poses and we had a great laugh. I will definitely ask her again, she was very dilligent!

I should, at this point, say how much I liked the dress she chose for me. I like Emily and Fin because their dresses are 100% cotton, which I prefer SO much more to viscose and all those synthetic dresses around. I was delighted when she gave me this because I would never have chosen a tulip dress shape like this, being pear-shaped, I tend to favour looser skirt bottoms, so it was something different and since I'd given up shopping for Lent, was a welcome addition to my wardrobe!  Incidentally, my Father-in-law, the famous WOMOTM, bought me an ASOS voucher which I have, post-Lent, bought another Emily and Fin dress with! Watch this space.

The Sele is lovely and the sun was beautiful. It made a fun diversion on the way home.  We were even lucky enough to see a small patch of Bluebells too!

Today, I spent the day with my sister and my little Niece, K.  CBC dropped me off on his way to his piano exam and a very lovely time I had too.
We went swimming and I was astounded to discover my 5-year old niece is able to already swim lengths. She swam 10 lengths all in all as well as numerous widths. I am amazed that she has done this with my sister alone. I couldn't swim at all until I was 10 and only a lenght when I was 11!

We went back and had lunch, watched a dance show on DVD and then I played Hide and Seek with her. Let me tell you something sad I discovered as an adult. You are BIG! So much bigger than you are in your mind. You are not the size of a child anymore. All the places you could once squeeze into are now totally out of the question, you cannot fit in them.  You will put your back out if you try to contort yourself into position.  You move rather like a bulldozer, not the svelte cat-burglar you once were.  You run round in a panic trying to find somewhere to hide, SOMEWHERE you will fit, and end up behind doors. You look like a mountain hiding under the duvet and are instantly discoverable. The airing cupboard is no-go, behind the sofa is a joke, you feel like you're going to break your neck trying to get under the bed and move the speed of a snail, divans are your enemy.

The only advantage you have over the 5-year old is that you have learnt to breathe silently! Aha, one advantage!

Bye for now!
