Another selection box of Spring outfits

 Hello!

It has been a lovely day! Ah, didn't the sun shine beautifully?! I've been out in the garden a lot of the day!

It  was quite nice last time I shared a selection of Spring outfits so I thought I'd do the same again!

This was an Easter holiday outfit and featured the patterned 2Euro skirt I bought in Antwerp.  I added a lovely belt I bought from Cardigan, Wales during our holiday there. I paid a lot of money for this belt from a boutique and I don't know what it was that drew me so much towards it but I loved it! I added some hooped beaded earrings, a K&Z necklace (KeZzie) plus my Seasalt sandals and felt VERY summery!
Here's Easter Sunday's outfit- worn for church! I got lots of compliments for this.  The dress is from Nigerian designer Kemi Telford.  She uses wonderful waxed cottons with beautiful patterns and her garments are beautifully sewn! I felt beautiful wearing it!

Swwwoooooosh! I added a druzy necklace and earrings which were given to me by former blogger and friend, Melanie, who used to blog as the Folly Bird.

Greetings from Poppet Sands!  I wore this top I bought from Think Twice in Antwerp! I'm windswept and messy with a hoodie and raincoat over the top but I'm sharing a selection here so here it is for variety!

Greetings from Barafundle Bay where I foraged Wild Garlic from the NT carpark and had a beautiful walk with CBC.  I love this Tu at Sainsbury's shirt. I always smile when I wear it! Add a foxy scarf which picks out two of the bright colours and walking trousers.
Here I am outside our  delightful cottage in Celgirran wearing my T2 floral dress, along with a green Laura Ashley cardigan and some Tom aztec patterned shoes.
Here are two of my recent charity shopped items- Anokhi at East blockprint tunic and a New Look chambray denim skirt plus my Grandmother's floral bead necklace. I loved this outfit! Also featuring Mum and her cowslips with my Saltwater sandals again which were the perfect match.

Do you have a favourite?  Which one would you wear?

Antwerp Day 3- Chocolate, churches and charity shops!

It's been a while since my last post on our Antwerp holiday!  I finally managed to get some photos copied across.

On our Monday in Antwerp, we woke up fairly late and after a lazy breakfast, had to hotfoot it across town on the Velo hire bikes to near the railway station. We had booked to go to Antwerp's Chocolate Museum. Having been to, and loved the Bruges Chocolate museum in 2019, I was excited for this one.

We arrived and put our bags in lockers.  They told us that the whole exhibit was Covid safe with nothing we needed to touch and was timed with all doors to sections so that people in groups didn't have to have any contact with other people. It was very clever.

The whole museum was really interesting with a detailed history of chocolate from bean to processing, to wrapping to all the different types and important Chocolatiers. It was hugely informative and fun to see.

One part of the exhibition showed you a vintage Belgium chocolatier and you got to hear from the woman who ran it (a reenaction)

One part showed some of the most iconic individual chocolates and their shapes in massive form

and introduced you to the great innovators in chocolate.  Here above is the Guylian shell.  Apparently, the most recent innovation was a truly new type of chocolate- Ruby Chocolate!

There were a few sections where you could see chocolatiers decorating and making chocolates.  There are opportunities to join demonstrations but sadly there were none when we were there which was sad as I ADORED this part of the Bruge chocolate museum!

This section here was where they introduced us to the ethical side of chocolate making and how the Chocolate Line is trying to support the communities who harvest and grow cocoa for them.
There were many 'instagram photo' type locations for you to take your picture.
As we progressed through, I became more and more disappointed at the lack of opportunities to TRY any chocolate.  At the Bruges one, there were chocolate button dispensers in various places.

It was only in the last room (before the shop), that we FINALLY got to try some chocolate. We were met by a lady who handed us a spoon each and showed us how to operate these melted chocolate machines.  They would dispense a sample of melted chocolate of all the different blends and combinations onto your spoon.  We started with those blends with a really large cocoa content and progressed to lots of different ones including the aforementioned ruby chocolate.
The warm liquid chocolate was delicious!!  We even managed a couple of samples of a few of them as the lady just left you to it!

We went into the shop where CBC chose some presents and some treats.

We then made a hasty stampede towards St Charles Borromeo church where I would be meeting one of my favourite Belgium blogger, the wonderful Ann!
We were pretty hungry and went into a nearby cafe where we ordered some food, hoping it would arrive quickly (which it didn't!).  Luckily, Ann was lovely enough to come and join us whilst we ate out lunch!
It was SOOOOO exciting to see Ann in real life after seeing her in beautiful pictures for so long! She is just as beautiful and stylish  in real life as she is in her photos!  She's also so incredibly kind and friendly! I've often been incredulous over Ann's writing- there is no way I could write in a language other than my native one in such an idiomatic way than Ann does and she is JUST the perfect person to chat to! It's so nice to be able to be able to natter and talk about those things you can't when typing.

Once we'd eaten our lunch, we headed to St Charles Borromeo- a well known Baroque church. It was built in the 1600's.  Sadly, the original 39 ceiling paintings by Rubens and lots of other works were destroyed, around about 100 years after it was built, in a fire.

It looks fairly undecorative from the outside, but the inside is WONDERFUL!
There is a wonderful Rubens altar painting.

The church is crammed full of things to look at- marblework, wood carvings, paintings and decorative floors. The organ is pretty exciting too!

There were confession booths here- so intricate!

After this, We headed off to......yes.....THINK TWICE!  For anyone who does not read Ann's blog, Think Twice is the most incredible Secondhand clothing chain in Belgium who have a very vast array of vintage clothes at reasonable prices.  They then have sale days where items get progressively cheaper until the final day where EVERYTHING is 1Euro! Ann is the Think Twice queen!
I was fortunate enough to be there with Ann on the penultimate 2 Euro day!  Because of Covid measures, we had to queue outside. At which point, CBC took himself off to go and seek a loo, which gave Ann and I an opportunity to have a proper chat which wouldn't bore him through not knowing all the things we were talking about!  Her we are in the T2 queue! You can see the T2 poster advertising the sale on the window!
We finally made it into the shop!   We walked around and realised we were very compatible shopping partners, showing each other things we though the other would like and giggling about things!  The selection was really good!
We both ended up making purchases- Ann one skirt and me, a couple of items to add to my previous purchases from an alternative T2 I'd visited the previous day (there are FOUR in Antwerp!)
I was really sad when we had to leave so I walked with Ann to meet Jos, her husband, who was coming to pick her up in the car.  It was really lovely to meet him too!
We'd had SUCH  a jolly, easy time and I felt SO privileged to be able to meet someone who has become a good friend via blogland over the past few years! The nice thing was that we ended up texting each other all through my visit (and beyond) and it made my holiday that bit extra special that I had a friend who I could share my adventures with, who knew exactly what and where I was talking about! Ann had already given me lots of brilliant suggestions for places to visit!
That evening, CBC and I headed out to dinner to a bistro near Volkstraat which served some traditional Belgian dishes and I took the opportunity to choose the dish Ann had mentioned to be earlier when we asked about traditional Belgian dishes. I THINK it was called Endives au Jambon. Apparently endives or chicory was dicovered by a Belgian farmer in 1830.
CBC and I are HUGE Chicory fans so I was gleeful to try it.
As you can see, I was served the most ENORMOUS portion- that's my hand right next to it! It was IMMENSE.
A thick layer of bechamel cheese sauce with ham rolls and lots of endives plus mashed potato.
I discovered, after wadingt through one half, that all the MASHED potato was on the side I left till last and I'd eaten all the endives and ham on the left so my meal ended up being rather heavy-going on the mash at the end but it was a GREAT choice.  CBC had the beef stew. Yes, he forgo his veggie ways to try it. When in Belgium....

It had been a rather wonderful day and I wondered what would be next?
Oh...you want to see my T2 purchases????
Well, as well as the two skirts I showed in previous posts (the red daisy one and the blue/purple stripy glittery one, plus a woven leather belt), I bought the above.
Most useful were the navy camisole and the corduroy rose skirt which I wore whilst there. I've now worn everything except the rainbow dress and the teal top!

Oh...and here's an unheard of photo of me trying CBC's cherry beer. I think it was a La Chouffe beer.
I LOATHE and DETEST beer.  Watch me drink it and see what true horror and abject disgust looks like (apparently it's hilarious) but CBC insisted I try this and it was pleasant! I even took an extra sip when he went to the loo!

Hope you are having a lovely day!

TARDIS Tuesday- Susan Foreman outfit- the original Doctor Who companion

Hi friends!

I hope you are well! I thought I'd try a NEW companion from Classic Who today for TARDIS Tuesday- one I haven't tried before.  I chose the original companion of First Doctor, Susan Foreman, also known as the Doctor's Grand-daughter!   The was 15 when she first appeared in Doctor Who and dressed in 60's wear that teenagers might wear.

In her final episode, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, Susan dons a very simple, Audrey-Hepburn style outfit:

The outfit consists of a black and grey (I presume....as it's in black and white...) stripy top with dark edging and a placket and buttons at the centre. She wears black fitted or capri trousers and perhaps grey pump shoes.
I realised that the crucial item needed for this cosplay was just waiting for me in CBC's wardrobe (that's two weeks this month where I have raided his wardrobe)

The parts that belong to my outfit are my ubiquitous black ASOS trousers that get worn for most cosplays! I added a pair of black suede Clarks originals pumps which I bought at Braintree freeport about 9 years ago for swing dancing shoes.

I decided to recolour my pictures for my side by sides to mimic Susan's posts. I think you will agree that CBC's top is an almost perfect match for Susan's.  The placket is the wrong colour and lacks the same number of buttons but that doesn't matter.

Obviously, I lack the pixie crop haircut and fringe but that's no biggie!

It was fun to try and recreate these poses though I had do a lot of jumping up to the tripod with the sitting pose! Ha!

The moment I post this on Instagram, then that's the moment CBC finds out I stole his clothes again! Oops!

This is definitely a very ME look (and, I suspect, a very Ang look too- we love our Breton stripes). Who else is up for recreating this look for my 50th birthday celebrations!? Haha!

Hope you are having a lovely day!

A selection box of Spring outfits!

I've taken a few outfit photos over the last month or so of outfits I liked but I just wasn't really feeling like sharing them or posting. However, they've been hanging around in my folder so I figured I should just lump a few together to share:

This first outfit was from a meal out with CBC- and featured the dress I received as a birthday present from my Mum. I'd seen this dress in an independent boutique called Rockamilly Boutique and liked it and a few months later, saw someone had listed one brand new with tags on eBay so Mum bought it for me. It's a really cheerful, fun, musical dress and here, unusually donned a pair of tights- pink ones- they are super old and have holes in but as tights go, are quite comfy and nice.  My charity-shopped, Italian, green, men's brogues completed the look along with an old black Pearl Lowe cardigan. Expect to see me wear this at school concerts!
This next outfit, I wore for the last day of term at school for our Easter bonnet parade.
The daisy print skirt is the main star of this outfit. I bought it from Think Twice in Antwerp and it is an Austrian folk skirt with a cute white broderie anglaise petticoat lining. I wore a pretty, collared Miss Patina skirt to pick out the colour of the daisies and then a black charity shopped cardigan plus black Clarks boots. And yes, daisy earrings!

This next outfit was worn in the Easter holidays. I started with the pretty Seersucker Seasalt Cornwall skirt that my Stepmum chose for me for my birthday. I figured this claret shirt (charityshopped but not sure where from!) and tights would pick out the detail in the skirt plus my Dr Martens Joylyn teal boots.  To head out, I wore my G Star navy corduroy coat.

A final outfit is this one from March. The eagle-eyed of you may notice this is a similar print to the Seasalt skirt. CBC bought me the Autumnal dress version for Christmas. I'm not so sure these Autumnal shades suit me as well as the turquoise version but the indoor lights don't help!

Which one, if any of these, would you choose to wear?

TARDIS Tuesday- Yaz Khan in Kerblam, version 2

TARDIS Tuesday is back after a 2 week hiatus.  It features an outfit I wore to school the week before the Easter holidays (just didn't get around to posting it).  It features my favourite new Who companion, Yasmin Khan in an episode called Kerblam. I last featured it back in October 2020

https://thedoctorwhocompanion.com/2018/11/05/doctor-who-series-11-titles-and-synopses-for-episodes-7-and-8/

Yaz wears her ubiquitous leather jacket (brown this time) along with a corally/reddy ribbed jumper with a scalloped hem (apparently from Maison de Nimes.  She dons an orange Hi-viz waistcoat for when she works in the Kerblam warehouse. On her bottom half she dons skinny black jeans and then dark grey trainers with white soles.

Here's how I interpreted the look this time:

I started with a red, ribbed, scalloped hem jumper.  Mine was from New Look (2nd hand) rather than the screen accurate jumper but I very much like this jumper (as did some work colleagues!)  It's a really nice fit and feel.  Yes, my black trousers made another comeback (they are getting a bit snug- nooo!) .
I decided to wear my Clara Oswald black Ash wedge trainers as they are most similar to Yaz's trainers and my Clara brown leather jacket, again, as my most similar jacket to Yaz's.  I had the brainwave to borrow one of the children's orange Hi-Viz vests from the school trip box to don for this outfit though it's a bit small- annoyingly, the next day, I spied the Assistant Head's Fire warden waistcoat on the back of her chair- totally could have borrowed that next time!

My hair was better last time I wore this outfit- it was longer and I seemed to achieve a more similar hair-style but never mind!

Hope you are well!
