Being a Peacemaker

It's funny, I have always thought of myself as being a peacemaker but I'm not sure that it is actually true. Sure, I don't want to rock the boat at times but this is more that I don't like a disturbance or upsetting people by saying things. But being an active peacemaker- hmmm, I think I fail to do that.
Take when I am cross about things, I just moan about them. Moan, moan, moan...
That's not being a peacemaker at all.

But at church today, it was one of those services like Songs of Praise where people could nominate their favourite hymn.

Someone chose Make me a channel of your peace which is supposedly a Franciscan prayer.
And they said how appropriate the words were for the current world crises that are occurring.  Doesn't matter your religion or sentiments, the words are something I would strive to achieve, in order for peace to really be true in this world.  If anyone could take objection to these, I would like to know how. They are beautiful aims.

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your
love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord
And where there's doubt, true faith in
you.

Chorus:
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there's despair in life, let me bring
hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Chorus:

Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we're born to eternal
life.

Chorus:

What does that mean? What can I do:

  • To share peace in all situations
  • To be someone who sows love in a situation of hatred rather than bitching about it or inflating the ire further.
  • To be forgiving in the case of injury.
  • Strengthening others in their faith.
  • To be someone who takes their time to console others when life is difficult rather than moaning and expecting sympathy for their own difficulties.
  • To try and understand others, their situations and difficulties rather than feeling misunderstood by others.
  • To wholeheartedly love others rather than seek for others to love me.
  • To be the one who brings hope rather than being that harbringer of doom and gloom.
  • To be the light in someone's life not to bring sadness or dark to their situations
  • To try and be a joy-bringer when people are sad.
  • To always forgive
  • To pardon others what they have done wrong.
  • To give to others rather than taking.

Ah...that sounds the most excellent of ways to be. It sounds hard but that is an ambition it would be good to strive for rather than any job or other achievement.  That is the most excellent of ways- being a true peacemaker.

three_crosses1
Borrowed this from Ang's blog (hope you don't mind!) which she got from here.

Last year my Good Friday post included the last verse of When I survey the wondrous cross, which I  played on my flute. I find that somehow, the words conveyed with music really help to speak the heart, if that makes sense.

This morning, we were blessed with glorious sun as we walked the march of witness around my town with the cross and visited all the churches in the area (the fellowship of churches) ending in a united service.  Then a beautiful intimate, quiet meditation at 2pm back at the church, at the foot of the cross.
This year, not being able to upload anything (disaster of camera and all recording devices left at school), I wanted to share another song which moves me on Good Friday, At the foot of the cross  by Derek Bond (1991), yet only two videos on Youtube, both not quite suitable.  So I leave you with his lyrics:

At the foot of the cross
I can hardly take it in
That the king of all creation
Was dying for my sin.
Oh the pain and suffering
From the thorns that pierced your head
And the hardness of my sinful heart
That left you there for dead.
And oh what mercy I have found
On the Cross of Calvary
I will never know your loneliness
All on account of me
I will bow my knee before your throne for your love has set me free
I will give my life to you dear Lord, and praise your najesty
And praise your majesty.

It is finished.

I wonder as I wander out under the sky...*

I was put in mind of these lyrics* as I wandered my garden, lost in thought as to the beauty of the summer garden.  I was lost in thought and seeing these shots that I left my camera to take as I wandered, they seem really ethereal with the washed out pale shots and the elf-green flowing skirt.  I also seem to be having an audition for the Ballet Rambert or some other contemporary dance company!
"Welcome!"
At the weekend, I am off to a lovely village, not too far from Hay on Wye, the other side of the Black mountains to play in a ruined abbey. Last time I went to play this particular concert was around 6 years ago and I remember it being a very beautiful, gentle experience that filled me with joy at the music and the tranquillity of the countryside. That particular experience fits in with the lyrics!
FYI:
Hat: 1969 purchase by Mum
Skirt:  gift from Dad and Stepmum
Top:  Newlook via Charity shop
Belt: Primark.

Comes from the most beautiful carol.  I played in an arrangement by Lucio Berio of this

I wonder as I wander out under the sky

How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander out under the sky

When Mary birthed Jesus 'twas in a cow's stall
With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all
But high from God's heaven, a star's light did fall
And the promise of ages it then did recall.

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing
A star in the sky or a bird on the wing
Or all of God's Angels in heaven to sing
He surely could have it, 'cause he was the King

I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.
