Style Imitating Art outfit- Liberty Head

Hello all,

I've spent practically the whole day from 9am till about 8pm doing cleaning, tidying and watering of garden! I am therefore knackered!

I thought I'd get in early with my submission for Style Imitating Art this week.
“Liberty Head” by pop artist Peter Max
This Pop art has bright splodges of colour as well as the obvious Lady Liberty!

Here's my submission.
I started with this charity-shopped dress from Boden.  It is supposedly floral but to me, it just looks like splattered paint- it features many of the shades from the painting.
Since, to me, turquoise was the prevalent shade, I added my turquoise Primark cardigan to cover my arms in the sun.
Jewellery-wise, I thought adding my Clara Oswald gold spike necklace and bracelet would be a good nod to Lady Liberty's crown.  This gold face brooch was a gift from my ex-deputy head which I thought had a pop art quality to it.
I added some neutral grey shoes with little gold anchors to tie into the jewellery.

Finally, as a very silly addition JUST for the photo (no, I didn't wear it out, not least because it pinches my head!), I added my Crown and Glory gold crown!

What do you think?

If you would like to join in (Bev, you are wonderful for joining in. Sheila, I am still staring at you...in a Vizzini fashion.  Vix?????, send an email to Kim at fiercefashionblog@gmail.com by next Tuesday.

Advent Day 21- Over the top Christmas Jumper day

Today's Advent pictures are building up to an over the top Christmas jumper day outfit. For someone who is rather a terrible clothesaholic and hoarder, surprisingly, I am rather picky and frugal about Christmas jumpers- I just have the one and anytime I've considered another one, I've ended up saying no!

Our school teachers did Christmas jumper day on Friday which I decided would need to be a bit more than a Christmas jumper and trousers.

Let's start from from the smallest detail.  I started from this Punkypins snowflake necklace- it is beautiful with its iridescence.

And here's the star of my Christmas jumper, my sequinned Gingerbread man.  Confession time here- I discovered I hadn't washed it since last year- oops!!! It was just in my jumper box!

A DIY headband was necessary- the pom pom maker went into action and I made a white glittery snowball to add to a navy headband!
And lastly, why wear trousers when you can wear a vintage sun-dress underneath in the same colours as the gingerbread man! Ha!

The whole effect is totally daft and slightly OTT, but never mind, that's how I roll!

It is SO nice to be on holiday!  Today, having gone to bed really late, we got up very late, went and did some shopping and I've come home and done some sorting out- I emptied the airing cupboard and ironed pillowcases and sheets and rearranged it neatly which is great as it was a tip in there! Lots of washing and the suchlike!  Now just need to finish the hoovering in the morning before lunch at my Mum's!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday with a little help from my (blog) friends

Hello there!
I am assuming temporary host babysitting duties over TARDIS Tuesday for the month as Maricel is away on holiday. I was going to have a rest but felt a bit sad at the prospect (particularly as I will be away in August so may not be able to participate!)  Luckily, Maricel said she'd continue to create the linkies for me!
Check out my blooming veggies!
TARDIS Tuesday 23-6-15 a

Today's TARDIS Tuesday outfit comes with a little help from my lovely blog friend, Melanie over at The Folly Bird (who is rocking the most AMAZING ice-cream skirt and pretty red outfit today!)

She recently sent me a delightful parcel of some gifts she thought I would like! I was utterly delighted and really touched.

Gifts from Melanie
Look at all these beautiful crafty bits! I can't wait to use them (except things like this are always too nice to use!!!!!)  They are wonderful and I will TRY to make myself use them!

And the link to TARDIS Tuesday?

Melanie sent me a cute TARDIS keyring which I saw instantly had a small jump ring which said "NECKLACE" to me. My year 2's loved it! Set against a background of TARDISish blue stripes, the windows almost looked glowing!!!
TARDIS Tuesday 23-6-15 c
There was a decidedly pirate edge to this outfit!

Thank you to my lovely friend Melanie (who I accidently left a comment telling that I was waiting at the station and she should call to let me know when she'd arrived, thinking I was texting my husband rather than phone commenting on a blog!!!!!) for her lovely gifts.

So over to you, share your WHO-blue outfits, your fez fashion, your beautiful bow (tie), your TARDIS dress (ahem Kat!), your question mark tanktop or ode to Bonnie Langford- the choice is yours.
Come and link up with TARDIS Tuesday!  In a few hours!

An old salty tale

Sailor spots 2
I think I've been having nautical withdrawal symptoms. Definitely time for a camp sailor outfit!
You'd think this wasn't suitable attire for helping someone move house but I tripped over trouser legs all day Sunday when wearing something "More practical!"

Cardigan from Collectif
Polka dot dress- Joy Louche
Shoes- Faith
Tights- Primark
Headband- Crown and glory

I've not really made anything of April Fools in School before but today, as I was searching for a new song to teach in Singing Assembly, I looked in the Harlequin 'Songs through the seasons' and found a song called 'April Fools'- it 's been the only time Singing Assembly has fallen on April Fools day so I took advantage!
Sailor spots 1
One of the kids (Gifted and talented musician) tried to trick me (and succeeded!) by telling me she'd broken her cornet so I decided to wreak my revenge.  That year 4 class were reading their books whilst the children were logging their school dinner choices on the computer and so I whispered to the TA and got the class quiet and talked to her about photocopying the test papers because Miss had asked me not to teach music and do a science test instead. Some of them cottoned on and were disappointed but then I had to obviously state it and asked them to get their pencil cases out as we had to do a science test. Cue groans and moans all round, especially from my little joker who told me she was devastated but said that at least I was going to be with them for it.

As the TA said she was fetching the papers, I said they'd have all lesson and then said, "Nah, it's just a trick, line up!".  Some of them, like my joker said, "I can't believe you did that Miss, you are a really good actor!" and some didn't cotton on until the class had lined up to go to the music room! They all agree it was a rotten but a convincing joke!

After break time, I tried the same joke on the other class. Usually we go straight to the music room from the playground but I made them go back to class, get their pencilcases out and told them about the test. Their own teacher came back in and I said to her loudly, "I'm just telling them about that test that you asked me to do!" She cottoned on and did some very convincing acting and scolded them for not remembering she'd told them about it yesterday and said they had to revise and if anyone didn't get 90%, we'd move their names down the colour chart. They all looked askance until we said, "No, April Fools!" and highfived each other! Ha, tricked them again.

The downside was, they tried to trick me ALL through the music lesson (they failed) and then their teacher in the afternoon. They're the April fools as they didn't know the Midday rule! Ha!

In the afternoon, I was unexpectedly called to cover Year 2 and ended up teaching RE and then PE. Not really that sad to miss year 3.

RE was great fun as we were learning about the Torah and watched a short animated version of Noah's Flood, after which I got the whole class involved in after, acting it out! Great fun- God stood on the desk, Noah and his sons and their wives all had to round up unruly animals from round the class and get them onto the carpet and bolt them in (one VERY mischievous sheep who gave Shem some trouble!) - we then had counting to 40 with God playing a tambourine and sending the dove to search for something green (she chose a pencil box!). We then had a go at some Hebrew writing. PE worked out as great fun as we were practising batting skills.

Finally, after school went to meet my friend M in Romford where we had rather tasty Pizza and then a fantastic Ice-cream sundae and came phone, catching up on phone-calls on the return journey (I'm off to Petworth for a few days in a week or so!) and then N coming round to fetch his spare-key to return as he hands over the rental property!

All in all, a jolly old day!

A proclamation on the future of bright blue

You do realise now, that any time there is any slight appearance,I will be attributing all mention of blue to the TARDIS! Such is my life now I have committed to weekly Doctor Who-inspired outfits! Mwa ha- Mad cat lady no, Mad Who lady- yes!xx
Yes, this is what being friends with Maricel does to you. Embrace it ladies (and gents- not forgetting Shamu, Gary and WOMOTM and any other male readers/friends/family I have neglected to mention).

So a proclamation:

Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye, who so ever heareth this, that all shades of bright blue shall hereafter be known as TARDIS Blue and should the shades of cobalt, electric blue, royal blue, school blue, cerulean blue and so forth be worn, that they shall hereafter be collectively referred to as such.

And so on.  So why the mention? Well, I have been feeling Two Birds Inspiration Monday guilt, not been joining in with Inspiration Monday so I when I saw that the inspiration was something I could readily see and think of, I immediately clocked the appearance of TARDIS Blue in Cindy Crawlford's outfit.

IM Monday 22-2-15

Which I decided to reverse, since I have a similar shaped and material thrifted jacket and a suitable-TARDIS-coloured top.
Wore simple denim coloured trousers (which look as wrinkled as a prune- NOT a flattering look), similar boots and voila.

Yet, tis all about the extra secret details to make it my own...

IM Monday secret TARDIS details
TARDIS sign necklace and Crown and Glory TARDIS blue jewelled headband- secret extra allusions!

I should add that this necklace is NOT good to swing-dance in- either you garotte yourself or a partner or smack yourself in the face. CBC and I decided to beat the Sunday night blues (otherwise known as 'Going back to school misery')  and head down to Southend for Retro Sundays swing dance night. It was in a new venue, an O'Neills and it was a great venue. Lots of old acquaintances from the dance class we attended in Southend were there so it was very jolly and definitely boosted morale dancing.  I felt decidedly underdressed, everyone was in dresses and makeup (girls) but who cares, the point was to dance!

I have really enjoyed my half term, we've done lots- swing dancing, pancake parties, walks in Suffolk, dinner with friends, charity-shopped, sorted out electricity bills, wedding album, tidied, hoovered, cleaned, made bread, got up hideously late, had some downtime, reading, eating, relaxing and now it is back to the grind.  I just have to think of Ecclesiastes when he says, there is a time for everything in heaven and on earth- a time to work a time to relax (paraphrased) - the nicer part is more appreciated because of the not so nice part.  Plus, it is my birthday in a week so I do have something to look forward to.  I'm thinking Kiddie-style swimming outing to a place with flumes and waves in Colchester? Good idea???? xx
