TARDIS Tuesday: Sarah Jane Smith: The Gift

I've worn TARDIS Tuesday outfits for the past few weeks but again, failed to photograph them so I'm glad to share one today which is a first appearance, Remember back in August, I posted that I'd seen some Doctor Who costumes at the Queen's Hall in Hexham and had got in touch with the costume owner to see if he had an ID on any of the items.

Well, he finally got back to me in October (after a second pestering email!) to say that the tops were both from Marks and Spencer.

She wears the tops with French Connection jeans and some toe bar sandals which look a bit like Birkenstocks but who know s where they are from!

Images all screenshots from
 https://sjscloset.livejournal.com/20074.html

Here's my picture from August:

I searched on Vinted for a couple of weeks, finally realising that it doesn't allow you to view more than 500 posts at a time so restricted the number by price AND material and finally found the screen accurate blouse and an alt vest-top (the product code is not the same!)

It was a tense couple of weeks as when finally my Vinted parcel arrived to my local parcel shop, the seller got in touch to say Yodel had muddled up two of her parcels and someone else had my blouse!  She asked me NOT to collect it so it would be sent back but it took at least 3 weeks until it turned back up at her house and I was fretting!  She then sent it to me by Royal Mail and it took 10 days to reach me!

Here I am in the blouse and vest top today! Worn with a pair of my Yaz Khan jeans (not SA)
I wore this whilst CBC and I went out to go and pick up some presents AND a new kettle as last night, I was cooking oven roasted veg and disaster struck! I boiled a kettle  and all of a sudden, all the lights went out in the kitchen. Weirdly, the oven and hob still stayed on but everything else was out!
I finished cooking and we ate dinner and CBC tried to reset the MCB.  It didn't work so I texted my lovely neighbour Martyn who manages to solve and help with absolutely every house/machine disaster we've had!!! He texted and then came round to show us there is a secondary Earth MCB which had tripped because the kettle had died.  Luckily, this morning, we were able to have tea as I also have a lovely stove-top kettle.
By weird coincidence. I discovered that the man who helped me with the costume ID and who owns the screen worn costume was actually a great cousin of my Godmother's husband and I own a book he wrote and my Godmother is spending Christmas with his Grandmother!
CBC just made some delicious potato, carrot and leek soup for us for dinner and we had an amazing fried breakfast this morning! We've tidied and cleaned lots of the house which is good as it was a disaster, annoyingly, as I had tidied and cleaned all the downstairs last weekend and C had wrecked the kitchen cooking for his college course Christmas dinner and for various other reasons!

(head back tomorrow for my annual Christmas song!)

On Wingsdays we wear Pink!

I made allusion to my Mean Gulls t-shirt in my last post. If you haven't already clocked it, this is a pun based on the movie Mean Girls. They have a quote that "On Wednesdays we wear pink!" so this t-shirt made me laugh a lot, even though I have only seen the movie once.
The brand is Hello Dodo and their t-shirts make me really laugh as they are all Homophone puns and there are a LOT of Seagull ones. I bought one in Lockdown that says "Gull Power" on it.

Here I am wearing it yesterday in Nottinghill.
We were at our KCO concert and it was the break.  We went out into the street during our break to drink our tea and eat cake. My friend Quentin laughed as these two girls were posing having their photo taken in front of his Saab.  He didn't say anything to them which funny!  I got Bryony to take my picture in front of it! I got lots of love for my outfit.  I wore my Meangulls t-shirt with these white striped trousers from River Island (charity-shopped in May in Hexham) and my Vinted Clarks funny Dream shoes.

The concert went really well.  We were pleased with it (except the very first chord- someone played a wrong note!).  All my solos went well and we had a good audience!
MyBiL and his partner came to watch as well as CBC!  Got back quite late!
Hope you have a good week!

TARDIS Tuesday - Peri Brown, Planet of fire!

Hello there!

With a week's break from TARDIS Tuesday, I am returning with a Summer favourite from Peri Brown, 80's companion!

It featured in back to back serials- Planet of Fire and The Caves of Androzani!

Last worn in May 2023, this will be its 4th outing on the blog!

Let's look at the outfit:

https://medium.com/doctorwhomarathon/day-316-november-12th-2021-13a9408ff41b

https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/doctor-who-my-life-as-a-fan-part-3/

It features pink high-waisted shorts, a white/rainbowy checked shirt with white pumps and a pink bikini top.

Today's version looks much better than last time, possibly due to smiling even though the garments are identical to last time!

All the items I wore were charity-shopped over the years- pink 80's shorts, a Select rainbow pastel blouse, Rieker white pumps and then red bikini top!
I think this is a pretty good match on this outfit and it doesn't look too costumey, unlike a lot of Peri's looks! Not quite as pink as my previous Peri outing!

Had a lovely day today (Monday) playing flute trios with my quartet (one member ill).  I reached the house of my friend via train and bus and it was an adventure getting the bus!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday- Attack of the Cybermen

Dear All,
Thank you so much for your kind and supportive messages last week in reference to my moaning post. I really appreciate it. I felt much better the next day after some sleep! More on Treasure Island another day.
I got my hair cut on Saturday! I decided I wanted to have it cut so I randomly went into a hairdresser in town as I was there shopping and had about 10 inches chopped off.

Therefore, it was a no-brainer what I would wear for TARDIS Tuesday.  Which character has a short bob?  Well, Clara at times but the main contender is Peri Brown! And I realised there was a Peri outfit I haven't featured since August 2021! Couldn't believe it was quite so long!

It's this PANK (in the words of Sheila!) outfit of Peri's from Attack of the Cybermen

https://theultimateguidetothefashionofdoctorwho.wordpress.com/2017/03/27/peri-brown-attack-of-the-cybermen/

You can see what it features without my having to tell you so, without further ado, here's my 2024 rendition:

It features this pink top and shorts which I charity-shopped in 2021 for £6.25 in total.
The belt came with a dress I bought from Lindybop a while back and the bracelet is from Primark about 15 years ago. I wore my Rieker (charityshopped) lattice ballet pumps.

CBC really dislikes this outfit but I really like it and find it comfy, even if pink is not my colour I've worn these two items as separates out but not out in this combination! Not sure I'd dare wear this out!

TARDIS Tuesday- Peri Brown from Attack of the Cybermen

This week for TARDIS Tuesday, we have an 80's cacophony of colour to contend with from one Miss Perpigillian or Peri Brown, companion to the equally brightly dressed 6th Doctor!

Here is a collage of images of her outfit from my friend Tamsin:

Image borrowed from:

And here is my attempt:

Here is my version!
I must just put a disclaimer that I didn't really have a huge intention of doing this cosplay outfit UNLESS I saw the items very cheaply from a charity shop!
And so it was that, I went into my local charity shop to have a little look after posting a parcel (of cosplay clothes to my friend in Aus) and there, on the rails was both a pink top AND shorts priced £3.00 and £3.25 respectively! And for the price of a sandwich in a standard cafe plus a donation to charity, it seemed rude not to take advantage.

I already had a turquoise belt and bracelet plus pale pink shoes (all from Primark about a decade ago) and it was a simple matter to find a pair of round earrings  (you can't actually see them) and a turquoise ribbon from a present to complete the look!

I'm not used to wearing this shade of pink but I'm very pleased with how this came out. The moment I finished taking these photos, it tipped it down with rain and I had to bring various clothes horses, covered with washing, in.
Peri wore quite a few variations on this outfit so stayed tuned for something a bit similar at some point! I can foresee a few versions of something like this at some point soon!

I completed a grant application for school today as its deadline is tomorrow and I was waiting on a part of the application from someone else.  Coupled with needing to do a bit of cleaning and waking up horrendously late, I feel I've wasted this GORGEOUS DAY inside! Typical!

What do you think?

P.S. Thank you for all your kind anniversary wishes!

Pink ladies

Is there a more lovelier sight than a tree filled to the brim with Cherry blossom?
So many childhood memories of our local area and school field are filled with memories of the Cherry blossom. Every Spring anew feels like a new miracle with the beauty of the flowers!

It was totally serendipitous that I was wearing a very pink outfit yesterday. I don't wear pink very often so this is doubly funny!
My new home is in an Avenue which is an avenue in the true sense of the word which is full of cherry trees. If you stand at the end of my road and look down it, it is a triumph to see.

My niece came over with my Mum yesterday to help with some gardening activities- mostly involving edging the bed and wrestling with a rose bush root. She enjoyed the wide grass banks and turned cartwheels along them.
From Bluebells to pink Cherryblossoms,
one of my favourite songs I taught at school was the traditional Japanese folk song, Sakura- Cherry blossoms.

Sakura, Sakura, ya-yo-i no so-ra wa.
Mi-wa ta-su ka-gi-ri
Ka-su-mi ka ku-mo-ka
Ni-o-i-zo i-zu ru;
I-za-ya i-zay Mi ni yu-kan

Sakura, Sakura,
Blossoms waving everywhere
Clouds of glory fill the sky.
Mists of beauty in the air,
lovely colours floating by.
Sakura, Sakura
let all come singing
Sakura, Sakura
Blossoms waving in the breeze
Yoshina, the cheery land,
Tatsuta, the maple trees,
Karasaki, pine tree gran,
Let all come singing

(Lyrics from Make music fun.net

I don't own much pink, but I'm not adverse to it, I'm just more of a blue girl!
This hat is one of my ultimate favourites out of all my hats. TK Maxx, 10 years ago.

Yes, those are shrimp earrings. If you want to see them close or the pin badge, you'll have to return for 5 brooches later this week.
Even my new water bottle is pink! It's made out of glass as I am going to try to avoid plastic where possible!
I hope you enjoy some beautiful blossom moments this week

Easter garb and 10 reasons to be grateful

 Hello there,
Greetings from Northumberland again! Doesn't my husband look sweet in those pictures behind me! He was adorable as a kid. I would totally have liked him if he'd have been in my class!

As it was Easter Sunday, I decided a pretty dress was definitely in order- something pastel and Spring-like. I don't do pastels very often so this is a rare occurrence on this here blog! Thus I paired them with black to shield myself from the trauma of it!

The dress is from my old favourite, Closet London. You've probably seen several of their dresses over the years on my blog (and here , here, here, herehere-blooming heck, looks like a Clara dress there!) but I only started to tag them last year! I didn't realise they were a well-known brand until last year when I started seeing other bloggers wearing them. We used to have an outlet for them in my home town and I've been buying them for a good few years- it was rather sad to discover the shop was closing down and I'd have to spend about £40-50 if I wanted to buy any more.  So much money!!! Mine were only about a 3rd of that maximum! Mind you, I own at least 10 (eek!) so that's no bad thing I won't be buying any more!
Thus, when I bought this one, I bought it thinking, "This is one of the last times I will buy one of these!)
It seemed my Pi brooch would work with the dress- hurrah!
We've had a lovely walk today in the Cheviots and I was telling my friend who we went with, about 10 things to be grateful for and she asked what I would be grateful for today.
So here you are:

1. The joy of seeing friends and spending time with them. The joy that I have my own friends now to go and see in Hexham!
2.  A delicious picnic which J made for us!
3.  The fact that CBC drives well and did the driving up the hideous A68 road, AKA the rollercoaster! I would DIE if I had to drive up it!
4. The fact I didn't slip over at all walking.
5. For the sunshine that greeted us on the way down.
6. For the gorgeous exercise- all 12.5km of it.
7.  For a good night's sleep the night before.
8.  To have family in such a beautiful place and to know the secret of  Northumberland
9.  For cheesy Wotsits in my packed lunch and roast chicken sarnies!
10.  For the amazing cake and tea so cheaply at the Barrowburn tea room. I am so sad they are going to have to sell the farm and shut the tea room because they just can't make a living up there.

What are you grateful for? And what did you wear for Easter?

Pink alpacas

It's very funny- it shouldn't work this way, but you know when you are a slightly quirky dresser OR you are a bit of a shopaholic, or you talk about clothes too much- people like to give you clothes.

I, by rights, should not be given any more clothes. I have far too many. Yet people associate you with things they get rid of. Like Vintage Vix gets people sending her things they see and they think of her and the chazzers save her the quirky stuff.
This jumper is a case in point.
I've talked about my friend E in Petworth who I've stayed with. She's more than double my age and she's given me various vintage items she's got rid of over the last 10 years or so.
She brought this vintage alpaca jumper for me to music camp one weekend.  It's totally insanely bright and toasty as hell! It's almost 40 years old apparently and from Peru. I last wore it on the blog back in 2012, here when E gave it to me! I wore it in a bit of a mad cat lady way!

On Sunday, I came home from church absolutely freezing and I wanted to wear something a bit warmer, so I changed into this. I was sort of inspired by an old blogging pal Lauren at Someonelikeyou here who teamed a reindeer  sweater with a black velvet mini-dress (except hers is skinny and svelte and stylish-looking!)- in my head, she wore it with a scarf (that's most of her other outfits around it) and so I thought I'd team my jumper with a mini-skirt and scarf- I wanted to wear these new fleecy leggings I'd bought as they are so cosy but I don't agree with leggings as trousers, so the skirt merely protected my modesty!  Underneath, I wore a long-sleeved green top that E had given me in about 2004!!! The skirt was a cast off from my Canadian work-colleague S who gave it to me when she moved home. Cosy socks were necessary as these were leggings and how appropriate these ones matched! Cosy or sad, pick your preferred option!
I truly was cosy and happy wearing this all Sunday. Yeh, it's not the most stylish thing ever, but maybe a little bit cute!?
Last week, I dismantled our Christmas wreath in the garden, clipped all the foliage into the compost and laid all the artificial elements on the garden table...and forgot about them.

I noticed this poinsetta on the ground.  Picking it up and putting it into my mouth within the space of starting the 10 second timer and the click of the shutter, alla pseudo-romantic dancer, not my best move-urgh, it's been on the GROUND all week!!!
I realised that as I took the second photo!
I hope all is well with you and it all goeth well!

Outfit details:

Scarf- gift from CBC
Skirt- F21 gift from S.

Take care and stay warm and safe.

The hundred dresses

IMG_5960

Illustration from 'The Hundred Dresses,' (1944), illustrated by Louis Slobodkin

I have been participating in Style Imitating Art over the last couple of months but haven't always remembered to post about it.

This week, Jen  chose an illustration from 'The hundred dresses' by Louis Slobodkin as her inspiration. I'd love to read this book as Jen talked about it being a really good book that deals with the issue of bullying.

I chose to use an outfit I'd worn the previous Saturday for my friend's wedding.  The background of the illustrations have a lovely sketchy pinky effect which I felt reflects the colour of my dress.
The dress was from Dorothy Perkins a couple of years ago and I discovered it went quite well with this old favourite summer hat.  I added a pearl and rose necklace from Accessorize kids and some pearl bracelets.

In between the wedding and reception, CBC and I headed to Valentines Mansion and park, the place we had our own wedding reception. It was a beautiful, hot day and the gardens were looking glorious! The lavender beds are my favourite place in the whole park.

We ate in the Gardener's cafe and then wandered the gardens.

It brought back some wonderful memories of our wedding and the happy times almost 2 years ago.

After the gardens were locked at 5pm, we went and lay on the grass outside the mansion where we saw a couple having wedding photos there!

As I tried to take photos of the Mansion, CBC kept photo-bombing with a piece of Lemon Verbena that I had plucked from the kitchen garden.

I always love coming back here to Valentines and how fitting, I was there for another wedding!
