TARDIS Thursday- A summary of my favourite TARDIS Tuesday outfits from 2021

I missed TARDIS Tuesday this week as I was in Northumberland for Christmas.  We ended up spending our Christmas in Northumberland.  We were supposed to be in Oxfordshire with CBC's sister and husband but due to their contracting Covid in Dubai, we couldn't go there so 4 of us, CBC, myself, his Mum and his brother, stayed at CBC's mum's house in Hexham.  What felt really sad initially, turned out to be a really chilled, hassle-free and good-natured Christmas and I even got to visit my Hexham friends who arrived back home on the 27th. Apart from the rather long, arduous journey (including CBC not feeling well, but luckily, we managed to put his brother on the insurance so he drove instead.  We had a few delightful presents from each other, all useful or edible and it was pleasant not to be loaded down.

Instead of TARDIS Tuesday, I thought, instead, that I would do a summary of my favourite TARDIS Tuesday outfits from each month.   If you click on the month name, you can see the original post the picture cam from.

I chose this Yaz Khan outfit as my favourite because it was cosy and I managed to actually imitate the hairstyle (I am bad at hairstyles).  Also, it was entirely put together from other cosplays and items I had anyway. That cream sweater is a bunny one worn backwards!

My favourite one is this iconic Clara Oswald outfit- it's the one you see most people dressing in Clara as and it has taken me years to get it to this standard of screen accuracy.  Also, I was so happy to get to wear it in the snow (it's a Christmas outfit!) Plus, it's really cute and fun!

The reason I chose this Yaz outfit is mainly because it was my 40th birthday post and I was accompanied by some of my best blogger friends in dressing up as Doctor Who characters FOR ME as a birthday present and, as Vix said at the time,
"Look how loved you are (we all knew that anyway) but if you ever start feeling down, look back at this post and smile at how many fabulous women dressed up especially for your big day."
Go and look at that post, it really is a joyful post! I mainly loved everyone else's outfits BUT I like this one of mine best because, although it is not particularly interesting, memorable or bright, it is one that I have never seen any other cosplayer do and it featured my beautiful Alex Monroe necklace that was a 40th birthday present (and joint Christmas present) and it is really comfortable, yet looks smart!

I chose this novelty look for April's choice because I LOVE a sailor look (I even have a label devoted to nautical clothing and I have been searching FOR YEARS for a suitable jacket and cropped trousers for this.  Plus, Romana is a really smily character so it is really easy to imitate her facial expressions compared to a lot of other characters who look moody!

I chose this Clara look for May because it is another outfit I've had quite a few attempts at and it's a very Kezzie outfit- I love a 90's floral dress plus comfy accompanying garments!

June
I didn't have a huge amount of choice for June as I only posted 2 outfits but I chose this Peri look from 80's Who as I find it really comfortable yet cute- longer shorts are hard to find and the vest I am wearing underneath is one of my favourite summer tops. Plus, there's also the secret hidden cosplay element of wearing my 5th doctor ??? shirt embroidered by Ang!

This is my most screen accurate Clara item and the post I did of this is one of my most liked on Instagram this year.  I like the smily pics. If I dared wear these shorts for school, I would. I usually substitute the shorts for a slightly longer black shirt for school.

Like June, I only had 2 outfits to choose from and wearing an entirely hot pink outfit was not a favourite so I chose this Yaz one mainly as it is quite a different look for me and I had fun taking photos for it!

I chose this Clara September outfit because I felt really pretty in it.  I wish I'd had the opportunity to wear this out but I was SOOOO busy in September that I had no opportunity and just wore it for photos. One day though!

I chose this Clara outfit for October because I love the 20's look and it's actually incredibly comfortable to wear. Plus, again, I felt pretty!

I chose this beautiful Vicky Pallister outfit as it will forever remind me of the first time I met Ang Almond who sewed the braiding on for me. It's also comfortable (and was much admired by others) and practical yet instantly recognisable. It's an outfit I've never seen anyone else cosplay either.

I chose this Yaz look for December because it was entirely concocted last minute and I love a historical look. Insta loved this look too and I love that my mum took these pictures and did my hair for me.

Out of my choices, which one do you like best?

I can't choose!

Christmas Collection

As it reached December, I started thinking about getting out my Chritmas  garments and it struck me what a relatively new thing this is.  Back in 2013, I posted about not owning a Christmas jumper.  I didn't have one. That's when the Christmas jumper day seemed to begin in the UK from Save the Children.  And it seems to have become this massive industry ever since.

And then I realised that I have developed a massive collection of Christmas themed garments.  Considering they only get worn once a year and I am one person owning these, it strikes me that I have fallen prey to that consumerism and industry and it's an eco-disaster. I'm not sure what else to say on that front but that it's pretty crazy and I'm actually rather ashamed of myself.  By that token, I realised that I should be better organised for December so I can actually wear all the garments as much as I can since I've already made that eco-mistake.  And donating to a charity shop isn't going to necessarily make that any better as they could end in landfill. So I decided to be organised and make an inventory on my festive-themed garments so I can ensure I wear them as much as I can.  By the way, some of these items are not 'Christmas' garments but I tend to find them atuned for festivity.

Clockwise from top left:
1.  Next Sequin sweatshirt. I've had this since 2014 and I wear it lots. It's really comfy and not too difficult to style.
2.  Next star sweatshirt.  Bought in the charity shop this December. It's starry rather than Christmassy but I think it works as a Christmas jumper as well as being more versatile.
3. M&S sequin bow jumper: Bought around 6 years ago in the January sales, this is quite close-fitting and warm.  May find a younger relative to give this to if it gets any smaller but it's so pretty and sparkly.
4.  Joules Jingle Belle cotton t-shirt: This was bought 3 years ago from Zalando and is a good choice for being in a warm environment.

5. M&S Robin sweatshirt: Bought from a charity shop 6 years ago, I wear this in January/February also.
6. John Rocha sparkly thin sweater: charity shopped around 5 years ago- also worn at other times.
7.  Brussel sprout shirt: Bought from the town Christmas fair with my friend 4-5 years ago. I keep forgetting about this one.
8.  Charity shopped tartan dress:charity shopped around 7 years ago.  Gets worn at other times.
9.  5 gold rings sweatshirt:  charity shopped last year.

10. Peacocks sequin  skirt. Bought back in 2013. Worn every year.
11.  New Look sequin skirt:  Charity shopped around 5 years ago.
12.  Lindy Bop skirt with Arctic scenes. Bought around 3-4 years ago.
13.  Black gold and silver vintage skirt bought last year.

14. Stags dress:  bought last January from boutique in Leigh.
15. Vintage Style Me robins handmade dress: bought around 3-4 years ago.
16.  Lindybop Winter trees dress: bought 2-4 years ago. Not worn that much.
17&18.  Hellbunny Christmas velvet dresses. Charity shopped 2-3 years ago.
19. Topshop lacy dress : charity shopped around
20. Ho Ho Ho sequin sleeved t-shirt (not pictured). Charity shopped 2 years ago.

That's twenty items. TWENTY!!!!

Once I'd photographed all these, I put together and rolled up Christmas outfits so I could wear them daily from that point and give me ideas.  Not featuring a few garments

I've worn them all except top right (which are again not Christmas garments but sparkles and velvet are very festive). Will be worn tomorrow or Thursday or was going to Christmas eve but not sure now since plans changed.

Last two also worn.

Two skirts and 3 dresses have not been worn as they are quite dressy and I've not really had other occasions to wear them thus far.

Anyway, I've shamed myself in public now so perhaps I might stick to a not buying any garments in 2022 pledge this time?

Apart from that, any favourite items here?

Eco-Christmas cards 2021

I made a pledge to myself that if I came across something that I could make sure ends up in recycling, that I would try to ensure it reaches a place where it could be recycled. At school,I was using the Office scanner and I noticed a large pile of ex-school Induction pack covers ripped and put into the recycling.

Using this card and the tools below, I made 23 cards (the majority of these envelopeless postcards to add to the eco-dimension). The ones I sent in the post all reused old envelopes with decorative rectangles of blue envelope inards to cover up the previous usage.

4 craft punches

1 embossing tool

1 embossing stamp

They may be simple But, I hope, effective.

TARDIS Tuesday- Last Christmas

This week for TARDIS Tuesday, I thought I'd have another go at Clara Oswald's Christmas outfit from Last Christmas, the series 8 Christmas special on Doctor Who. I last attempted it in December 2018 .

Let's look at it.

And yes, I am going to be wearing nightwear on my blog! Ha!

Image borrowed from Claraoswaldcosplay.com

She wears a white full-length cotton nightgown with rosebuds on it. Over the top, she dons a pale blue cashmere dressing gown with pale blue sheepskin slippers from Ugg.

Finally, at one point in the story, she dons a khaki Topshop parka coat with a big brown fluffy hood.

Here's my version.  Please forgive the quality of the pictures.  The lighting was not great but I wanted to go with the slightly dark vibe as that is the feel of the episode (which deals a lot with the dream state)

Let's start with the basics:

This outfit has changed in two ways since I last wore it AND I straightened my hair which is the correct length for once!

I bought this white flannel nightie with pink flowers on eBay second hand after a LOT of searching. It's surprising how there just AREN'T this type of nightie available in smaller sizes. This was as close as I could get in NOT a size 20-22!
My dressing gown is actually a blue cardigan and was also bought second hand

The two updated elements from this outfit are the coat and slippers.  The coat I did wear (and still wear daily) is almost identical but has some dark extra patches on it.  This one is completely screen accurate and only cost me £3. I love the hood so much- it's the only thing that makes winter train journeys bearable.
The final element are these sheepskin bootie slippers.  These were a Christmas present to my mum from her Icelandic penpal about 20 years ago.  I 'acquired' them about 12 years ago.  Not sure how I did it but I did!

Ok, so it's not an outfit for wearing out. But it's a very comfy cosplay to be lying on the sofa wearing right now! Ha

Hope you are well.  My Christmas plans have just changed due to the hosts of our Chrismas testing positive for Covid on an LFT (waiting for PCR) but as yet, I have no idea WHAT we will be doing!  How exciting! Sigh...

Much love to you.

A Pause for Advent: JOY!

For my Pause for Advent this year, it is a tradition now that I share a recording of my annually written Christmas song.  For me, this is a really important part of my preparation for Christmas as well as something I look forward to.  It's also important to show my pupils that teachers DO the things they ask their pupils to do. In this case, compose. It's also an offering to God for me too.

This year, I wasn't sure whether I would write one because I wasn't sure if the Christmas services at the church would be happening. I also only had limited rehearsal time and finally, the children hadn't had the chance to sing last year's Covid special- Hope this Christmas so I was planning for them to sing that.

However, the day we had the gas leak at school, I was sitting listening to John Rutter's Christmas vocal music as I was doing my work and suddenly I had the inspiration to write a song called Joy.  I'd been listening to Star Carol and an arrangement of Joy to the World, both of which are the most ebullient, uplifting Christmas carols. A couple of hours later, I had written this simple song and written it into Sibelius music software. It's very simple but the kids loved it (and learnt to sing it in 20mins).

Alas,on the recording, the piano is too loud- I had forgotten to switch off my radio microphone so it picked up the piano extra loud but hopefully you will still get the point of it:

A song expressing that excitement that it is Christmas time again and all the joy it brings.

Wishing you much love, peace and joy this Christmas.

Joy! I've got Joy!

I've got Joy in my heart this Christmas time.

 Joy! I've got Joy!

I've got Joy in my heart this Christmas time.

Let the Earth rejoice!

Angels raise your voice!

Welcome Wonderful Counsellor!

Christmas time is here once again!

Peace! I've got Peace!

I've got Peace in my heart this Christmas time.

Peace! I've got Peace!

I've got Peace in my heart this Christmas time.

Let the Earth bring peace.

Let all conflict cease,

Welcome Prince of Peace.

Christmas time is here once again!

Love! I've got Love!

I've got Love in my heart this Christmas time.

Love! I've got Love!

I've got Love in my heart this Christmas time.

Let the Earth give love,

Love sent from above.

Welcome Everlasting Father.

Christmas time is here once again.

Joy to the world and peace to all.

Joy to the world and peace to all.

Joy to the world and peace to all.

 Joy! I've got Joy!

I've got Joy in my heart this Christmas time.

 Joy! I've got Joy!

I've got Joy in my heart this Christmas time.

Let the Earth rejoice!

Angels raise your voice!

Welcome Wonderful Counsellor!

Christmas time is here once again!

Joy!

P.S.
We also sang it at Church this morning (this time with guitar, bongos, drum kit... feel free to have a listen to version too- perhaps you can hear the words a bit better here?  There's a slight mistake on the timing at the start...given that we only tried it once before the service!)

The Christmas Birds

It was the last day of school today.  Yay, survived to the end of term!

It's been a good but loooooooooooooong week!

On Sunday, we headed over to CBC's work colleague's new cottage in a village 4 miles from us. She runs the Duke of Edinburgh at his school, which I have helped with, so I know and like her, as well as knowing her through the concerts at his school (she plays the trombone).

We had a nice walk around her village, we went to the lovely pub (never been in there before...will definitely return) and were invited into the beautiful church by the vicar. I had a nice chat to his wife.  After that, we headed home.

Monday was our Christmas services at the church at school.  Usually, I would be walking 90 children down early whilst the remaining 90 would come down with their teachers.  I'd then do the same in the afternoon with another set of 90 etc.  However, this year, because it wasn't the usual drill, I didn't take the choir or drummers etc early and got to cycle there ahead by myself.

The church were as welcoming and usual and both performances, morning and afternoon   went really well.  It was weird not having parents there but it was still really lovely and the children behaved impeccably and said how much they had enjoyed themselves.

Monday evening, I headed up to the Mansion House area of London with my viola on my back, as well as my bike and pannier, to  attend a rehearsal with a choir called The Elysian singers who we were accompanying in the orchestra.  As well as traditional carols, we were playing an oratorio called The Song of Simeon by Malcolm Arnold which is a brilliant, less-often performed oratorio.  It is so witty and touching in equal measure and I recommend having a listen to it. It reminds me of Gilbert and Sullivan in places.

Tuesday was a busy day in school with teaching Jingle Bells on the glockenspiels in Year 2 (they did very well) and then the afternoon was Year 6 performing their versions of the Baroque Composer, Tarquino Merula's Chiaccona. I was proud of them.  I don't think the rest of the building appreciated all the children spread around the corridors practising as they were working in trios and really needed silence to hear each other. Ah well, hopefully it will remind people, should they ever wish to permanently get rid of my music room, that it will really annoy them!

Wednesday was another day of successful Jingle Bells (glocks in Year 2 and recorders in Year 3) and more Chiacconas.   Choir was fun at the end of the day.  I gave them crisps and a chocolate bar which they were really grateful for and we had a jolly sing through of carols on request.

Thursday, the Year 1 &2's performed their Christmas nativity songs and more Jingle Bells in the afternoon.

We headed up to London to the Actor's church in Covent Garden to perform our concert.  Luckily, the tube and train was not packed and the church wasn't packed. We wore our masks whilst playing.  I wore my newest concert outfit which is a black velvet jumpsuit with big sleeves that I bought 2nd hand on eBay in Lockdown along with Charity-shopped Clarks T-bar shoes.

Today at school, I mostly spent the day editing and putting together the Christmas performance audio for the parents to watch and tidied up the little peripatetic room that I use as a dumping ground do admin work in. I was the last non-cleaner/caretaker member of staff to leave at 3.30pm and I resembled a Balinese motorcycle driver as I cycled precariously along the High Road to the station with a full pannier, laptop bag, rucksack, large bag full of food and large giftbag all hanging off my bike.

CBC, luckily came and picked me up from the station at the other end as it was raining and dark and I didn't really want to be cycling along the mainroad like that.

And now, onto the reason for the title.

My headteacher's partner made the most incredible decorations for his room.  The fire place was made from scratch from foam!  I asked if I could come and have a photo in front of it which he agreed to (and turned all the lights on for me! The office is so magical for the children and he often had visitors in there this December.

Today was my Robin Christmas outfit.  I wore this charity-shopped M&S sequined jumper (which isn't just for Christmas) along with a handmade Robin smock dress from Vintage Style Me and a lovely Robin necklace from Rosebud Casson.  To finish it off, I wore my Leggero boots (Goretex, fleece-lined- the perfect Winter boots)

On the subject of birds, I received the sweetest parcel from Fil. If you don't know Fil, she is a lovely blogger who is a professional Singer in Ireland and she wrote the most wonderful children's picture book with a wonderful message about welcoming migrants called The Birds which she sent to me a couple of years ago.  We sang the song in Singing Assembly and the kids loved it.
Fil sent me the most beautiful Christmas card based on the Birds illustrations as well as a lovely book called The New Policeman which contains the music for lots of Irish folksongs as well as wonderful story based on Irish fairylore as well as some beautiful bookmarks. It was such a sweet and lovely surprise and I was really touched! Thank you so much Fil!

I hope you are well and have a lovely weekend despite the impending feeling of worry about matters of the C19 kind. Love and hope to you.

TARDIS Tuesday- Yaz Khan in Survivors of the Flux- second variant- A day late!

Sorry, I just realised that the title makes this sound like a Covid variant! Relax  guys, it's just a Yaz variant!

Last week, I shared my Edwardian Yaz outfit and this week, I have a SLIGHTLY different version of that same outfit! Ha!

Here's a picture of Yaz wearing it.

Image borrowed from:
https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a38359497/doctor-who-flux-multiverse/

We have our straw boater again and a very similar outfit to last time except that this time, we have a light sandy coloured waistcoat with lapels.

https://tenor.com/view/doctor-who-doctor-who-flux-yasmin-khan-yaz-smile-gif-23457561

The photos were taken at the same time as my other ones! I just swapped the jacket for the waistcoat!

The only difference between last week's outfit
(which was
Grandad's 90 year old school boater
My friend Annie's Droopy and Brown skirt
CBC's brown brogu boots
ASOS white blouse)
is that I am wearing a Paisley tie of CBC's from Coe's and his waistcoat which he bought from eBay for his Newt Scamander costume for Harry Potter evening at school.
That's a very school-marmish pose!

The French plait was starting to come untucked by this point!

Sorry this is a day late- I was having trouble uploading photos yesterday!

It was fun wearing this vintage look!

What do you think?
Which Edwardian look do you prefer? This week or last week?

A Pause for Advent- Advent Acrostic

I was going to post something else for my Pause for Advent today but sadly, my memory stick is refusing to show up on my home computer and I'm at a bit of a loss.

I thought I'd look through my previous Pause for Advents and found an acrostic poem on Advent I wrote back in 2014.

One thing I love about this Pause for Advent is that all through the years since I've been joining in, how everyone's creativity manifests itself in different ways.  We are all writing about the same thing yet we all manage to find new and different, fresh ways of seeing Advent each time. It's not a competition but a mutual adding to something we find important or valuable for the benefit of others or ourselves.  And I think that's what is important and a thing to remember.  Is what we are doing benefitting someone positively? And if not, why are we doing it?

I hope all is well with you.x

Happy things this week that I'm grateful for.

  •  The hand of friendship can sometimes be a slow burner. I've had a work colleague for 15 years and in recent years, she doesn't join with social things but I've tried to reach out in terms of friendship but she's not been forthcoming until best friend at our school moved away.  We went out to dinner with that friend.  Last half term, I asked her to come to the Harvester for Dinner and she came and told me after half term how much she'd enjoyed it. Knowing it is her birthday today, I asked if she wanted to go to the Harvester again this Friday (CBC is at his work Christmas dinner) and she agreed immediately. She sent me a message on Monday saying how much she was looking forward to it and we asked a couple of other colleagues, including one who I would also like to be friends with.  She delightedly agreed too so we are going to have a jolly time.  I gave C a birthday present and card today and she texted me to say thank you and she would start using it immediately (As well as some Thorntons treats,I gave her Cath Kidston lanyard as she'd broken her work one and had mentioned she should probably get a new one. In the few years I've given her a present, she's never once said anything about it.  I'm delighted that she is opening up to me (which is a bit bittersweet as she is planning to move back to Wales at the end of the year probably) AND that our other colleague is coming too.  I felt such a glow when she texted me back today.
  • Dinner Friday- definitely looking forward to this! I didn't do the work Christmas do but this small scale thing is totally my thing AND I don't have to feel sad and gloomy when CBC is at his do!
  • I phoned my friend Lara on Saturday for a catch up and she mentioned that she is organising music or her village church carol service and was a bit stressed about it.  I told her I'd be happy to come along and play my flute or sing and she was delighted and said she felt much better about doing the thing.  I'm so happy to be getting to see her AND getting to play in a carol service AND getting to play music with her.
  • On a related note, Lara had been asked to join our flute group by I, the leader and we are going to play carols the day before the carol service for I's street Christmas event (outside carols).
  • I also texted a friend who lives in the area and CBC and I are going to go to theirs for Christmas nibbles and drinks after the street carols.
  • I wasn't going to write a Christmas song this year as I still had 'Hope this Christmas' from last year to perform but on Friday, after working from home, I was suddenly inspired to write a song called 'Joy!"- I worked it out and put it into Sibelius music software in a few hours and today I taught it to my year 5-6 choir who were super enthusiastic about it and managed to learn it ready for next week's carol performance.
  • My Year 5-6 choir are a really lovely bunch and I really enjoy our sessions!
  • My work colleague L owns about 20 Christmas jumpers and is raising money for St Francis Hospice by wearing and photographing them each day. I thought this was such a nice idea!
  • Christmas feel good movies- yes, I have watched a cheesy Christmas movie on Channel 5 every day since last Thursday and I am loving it!
  • I've FINALLY worked out two year 2 Fireworks composition lessons that actually work after a few years of unsuccessful, stressful chaos.  The tweaking and new ways of organising it worked! And, doing it in a classroom actually worked to my advantage!
  • Jingle Bells- very happy with my year 3 children today who worked hard on Jingle Bells.
  • Couldn't be bothered to do much for dinner, CBC was out at his school concert.  Managed to adapt a Thai Chicken noodle soup by quickly adding some extra veg. Healthy, quick and tasty!
  • Love the Lidl £1.50 bargain vegetable boxes!
  • My year 6 kids did a really good job on their Baroque performances today!
  • I'm back to Hildegard Von Bingen with my Year 5 classes again and I love teaching the children about her music!
  • CBC sent me a really funny text this morning on the train!
What made you happy this week?

Charity shop purchases November 2021

Hello there!

Hope you are well.

Before I begin, people, I OWN lots of mittens AND warm, waterproof cycling gloves AND fingerless gloves but I don't own fitted leather gloves! You lot seemed to think I have no winter hand protection! HA!

I thought I'd share a few charity shop purchases that I bought over November.  I've had a couple of weekends where I haven't done much but ended up feeling really tired but paid a little visit to town to take back library books or visit the post office which results in a sneaky look in the Haven's Hospice charity shop which always comes up trumps.

This beautiful silk-mix oriental-look blouse from Yaly Couture caught my eye- it's so pretty and would look really nice for a flute concert over a black top and trousers and is in my favourite colour.  I looked up the designer and it is a Vietnam-based tailor who does custom tailoring.  It originated in Hoi Ann and has 3 boutique stores now with over 300 tailors, artists and craftspeople. It cost me £6.99.

The second item, I was super excited over.  This beautifully soft cardigan is 100% cashmere from Autograph M&S originally.  I've wanted a cashmere cardigan for ages but to find one for only £5 in a charity shop is amazing.  If only it was black for concerts but I've already worn it a few times and loved it! It drapes in a kind of rippling effect rather than the lapel look it has laid down in below but it is lovely. It is so soft and cosy.  I looked up Autograph cashmere cardigans online and buying one of this length is around £119 so a fiver was a great buy! I'm already thinking of wearing it at church when it is cold but I don't want to keep my coat on!

The third item was from the Harp charity shop and cost me £3.99.  I looked up the brand on line, Chinti and Parker and a similar striped top retails at £75.  I cannot resist a good breton-striped top (I know I am in good company, Ang and Vix!) and I actually ignored it the first week I went into that top but the next week, I ogled it again and decided to just go for it.  It is hugely comfortable AND it has cute functional mustard pockets- yes!!!

There were 2 other garment purchases. 1, not pictured is a 3/4 length navy blue shirt dress with coconut shell buttons and then a pair of Made in Italy men's green leather brogues for £5.  CBC has his beady eye on these as we have almost the same-sized feet!

I LOVED the game Hungry Hippos and was discussing it with some teachers at school and how I used to have it in my Year 5 classroom and how it drove the dinner ladies mad when it was wet play. There it was the next day for £2.50.  I want to play it with my niece (CBC and I already played it!) and then I'll probably donate it to one of the classrooms.
The pile of books on the top left are all for the school library.  Sometimes, if I see nearly-new condition books by contemporary children's authors, I buy them for the library in and get reimbursed by one of our TAs who runs the library and saves any library fines/replacement costs for purchasing books. She knows I always vet books and will make some good choices so I sometimes text her if I find anything!
I also picked up 4 Vintage whodunnits for myself.
The last 3 books- 1, I wanted a festive, lighthearted Christmas read.  The other two books are Christmas presents.

I found some picture books for the younger kids on Saturday AND a £2.99 glockenspiel which I'd like as a back up if I ever have a child that I would like to be able to practice at home (without taking a school instrument).

A few useful and fun items here!

TARDIS Tuesday- Edwardian Yaz in The Vanquishers

 Hello there!

I decided to pull together what is known as a Closet Cosplay for this week's TARDIS Tuesday.  The idea of this is just searching for items in your wardrobe you have already without searching for and buying any specific item in advance for it.

The outfit in question is from last week and this week's episodes of Doctor Who Flux.  Yaz and Dan, along with Professor Eustacius Jericho are trapped in 1901 after the Weeping Angels sent them back there in The Village of the Angels and last week's episode began with Yaz and co, 3 years later, trying to find clues of how to get back to the Doctor.  Yaz and co have gone Edwardian in their costuming and Yaz is seen breaking into an Inca temple wearing this outfit.

She seems to be donning a green tweed skirt suit with a round collared blouse, brown tartan or chequered tie, a straw boater and then brown satchel, gloves and boots.

The image belongs to the above which I borrowed from
https://theultimateguidetothefashionofdoctorwho.wordpress.com

I had a look in my cupboards and looked to see what I could find:

I started with a green corduroy Per Una jacket I bought from a charity shop about 16 years ago. Alas, I didn't have a matching skirt but I decided to don my Droopy and Brown navy skirt as it was suitably voluminous. I borrowed CBC's light brown Brogue boots as I had just (SOB!) broken the zip on my beautiful brown knee high boots the night before. To match it, I added my brown charity shopped Clara Oswald satchel

I stole another item of CBC's wardrobe- his brown checked tie and added it to my ASOS round-collared blouse (has been used for various Who cosplays over time) Oh and used a vintage-looking lantern that CBC gave me one of our first Christmases together.

Alas, I had no suitable gloves to don but I did have my Grandad's old school boater (also has been used for a cosplay before)

Finally, a little view from the back.   I mentioned yesterday that my Mum came over yesterday so naturally, she was put to work as my official photographer but also tie-tier AND hairdresser to give me a French plait.  Yaz's hair styles have been very ornate this time and though mine is short, I thought I'd take advantage of Mum's hair skills.

What do you think?

I didn't wear the rest of the outfit for the rest of the day, as it's a bit formal for a Sunday, but I did keep the Droopy and Brown skirt on.

It was fun to see what I could cobble together for this outfit!
