#TARDISTUESDAY The Snowmen and the Polka Dots

 Hello!

It's been less than a year since I shared this TARDIS Tuesday inspiration but I have a little change to it.

It's an outfit worn by Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) in Doctor Who Christmas special, The Snowmen, right at the end.

It features a black silk, polka-dot blouse from Jigsaw, a pair of navy shorts from Whistles, a brown belt and a red satchel

https://www.facebook.com/ClaraOswaldCosplay/photos/the-snowmen-modern-outfit-jigsaw-bib-tab-shirt-in-blackwhistles-mim-tencel-short/146884895501986/

I changed out of my work outfit tonight to wear this cooler outfit. I'd also worn it on Saturday before going out to dinner but didn't get around to photographing it then.

I acquired the screen-accurate silk blouse from Jigsaw via Vinted a little while back for the princely sum of £5 and was very pleased for the cost for this soft silk blouse.

I seem to have lost my camera (actually very perplexed as I now keep losing things from my handbag. Lost my purse also...) so had to try and use my phone propped up against a watering-can. Not the best quality photos.
I am looking forward to pairing this blouse with red- I think it will work very well against a nice scarlet-shade!

I was grateful not to have any special evening plans this evening, was planning to get my reports done but what with getting dinner ready, making lunches, doing the washing up, the thought of starting them was pretty grim...so I quickly wrote this post.  I had one orchestra last night and have another tomorrow night and I have developed a cough/sore throat/lost voice. Grrr.

Bit premature, but here is my poem for this week's prompt word which was 'Puzzle'.  I've always been rather perplexed by the name, Monkey Puzzle Tree. There was a fine example of this Chilean tree in an a road close to my childhood home and I was always rather mesmerized by it, as well as intrigued by its name.

I'm quite proud of myself that I have managed to prepare myself a mixed fruit breakfast for the past 3 weeks to eat on the train on the way to school. More often than not, I don't manage breakfast, so managing to stick to this has been great!
One wonderful contributor has been the cherry tree in the carpark adjacent to some flats on the way home from the station.  I noticed it littering the pavement with cherries 2 summers ago, it seems NO ONE picks them, what a waste, and investigated picking some for the past 2 years.  This year was a bumper crop and I've been solidly picking them for two weeks and eating at least 12 a day, along with cherries, strawberries (now homegrown, 30 picked today, but also some from a colleague who was going to chuck them out but offered them to me first as she knows I'd be annoyed if she were just chucking them because she didn't want to take them home...along with a cucumber), grapes, plums, and, for the past two days, melon.  I forgot today and I really missed it so I made sure to get it ready tonight, for tomorrow, along with a healthy salad for my lunch! Hurrah!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday - Peri Brown, Planet of fire!

Hello there!

With a week's break from TARDIS Tuesday, I am returning with a Summer favourite from Peri Brown, 80's companion!

It featured in back to back serials- Planet of Fire and The Caves of Androzani!

Last worn in May 2023, this will be its 4th outing on the blog!

Let's look at the outfit:

It features pink high-waisted shorts, a white/rainbowy checked shirt with white pumps and a pink bikini top.

Today's version looks much better than last time, possibly due to smiling even though the garments are identical to last time!

All the items I wore were charity-shopped over the years- pink 80's shorts, a Select rainbow pastel blouse, Rieker white pumps and then red bikini top!
I think this is a pretty good match on this outfit and it doesn't look too costumey, unlike a lot of Peri's looks! Not quite as pink as my previous Peri outing!

Had a lovely day today (Monday) playing flute trios with my quartet (one member ill).  I reached the house of my friend via train and bus and it was an adventure getting the bus!

Hope all is well with you!

TARDIS Tuesday- Peri Brown- The Two Doctors Closet challenge

I've come to realise that the majority of my blog friends and readers are perhaps not so interested in my TARDIS Tuesday posts these days as in general, the comments are so much more plentiful on all my other posts but these! This is a little sad but since I do these for my own enjoyment, it wouldn't stop me from posting them. Sometimes, I see people on Insta complain about engagement on their cosplay posts and say perhaps they wouldn't continue them, which to me, seems a shame, if it something you really enjoy!

Today, I thought I would put together another closet cosplay outfit, e.g. one where you haven't really bought anything specifically for that cosplay but rooted around in your wardrobe to find  garments or accessories which could do a good job.  I like this, as it's a fun way to look at your wardrobe and try things together that you might not have done before.

The inspiration today is another one worn by Classic Who Companion, Peri Brown, as  portrayed by Nicola Bryant in the 80's.  It was worn in multi-doctor episode, The Two Doctors which included Colin Baker AND Patrick Troughton as well as Jamie McCrimmon.

I think they may have filmed in Spain.
What did Peri wear?

She wore a pastel multicoloured patterned lame cropped top with a matching headband worn along the forehead- very 80's!
She teamed this top with turquoisey-blue high-waisted shorts, worn with a red belt, her curious yellow and red keyring/charm and some turquoise peep-toe shoes.

Now, I confess, that I wouldn't have considered attempting to do my own version of this outfit but for this post which the actress herself posted where she shared someone from a convention who had done their own version of it. Instead of a lame blouse, they wore a rainbow checked shirt, tied up and I suddenly realised, I had something similar and thus suitable which I could use for this outfit!
And when I thought about it, I realised that I had pretty much everything else I needed for the outfit. And this would be a good summer home and gardening outfit!

And, da naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! Here it is:

It was fairly easy to convert the shirt. I tucked in the collar so it was hidden and did up 2 of the buttons lower down and tied up and tucked in the rest of the shirt. I rolled up its sleeves too.

Next, I added this pair of vintage high-waisted shorts and added the tiny belt which came from a vintage dress I no longer have. I probably wouldn't wear my blouse tied up like this unless I had high-waisted shorts. I have realised that these are so much more suitable for my shape than modern low-waisted shorts which are too big for my waist if they fit my hips.
I did contemplate adding a little photo keyring I had but instead, my eyes fell upon this yellow and pink personalised 'pencil' keyring I received as a present from a child at school last year.
Ha! I thought it would be funny to recreate this photo I found on the internet of Peri expressing her heat-levels. Yet, it was like that this weekend here!

You can just about spy my turquoise pointy Croc shoes above. I didn't think I still had turquoise shoes until I went into the garage and put these on to get something. They are kept in my garage to put on when I go in there to avoid getting dirty-feet! I take these to music camp with my usually.

If you are thinking I forgot the headband, fear not! I suddenly remember this rainbow elastic-headband I bought from Claire's Accessories about 20 years ago!
It's a pity my hair isn't as short as it was but this is close enough for me.
And that's the whole outfit! I am super, super pleased with how I have managed to adapt this into something a bit more wearable than the slightly impractical lame original.
Like Peri's last outfit, 2 weeks ago, I will be wearing this one for work but again, adapted so the shirt is tucked in and the collar and buttons worn a bit more demurely.

How would you have reinterpreted the rainbow lame top if you were putting this outfit together? I'd love to know!

TARDIS Tuesday- Classic Who outfit from Peri Brown in Planet of Fire and The Caves of Androzani

Hi there,

It's been a lovely bank holiday weekend.  Not quite the one I expected, esp since we made no particular plans and I am incredibly snotty and coughy, but namely the sun has shone.

Thus it seemed appropriate for my TARDIS Tuesday to reflect the clement weather.

I am inspired by an outfit worn by 80's classic Who companion, Peri (Perpugilliam) Brown who was an American Botany student who met the Doctor in Lanzarote! She wore it for both her first and second episodes, the names of which are in the blog title.

I have attempted this outfit before, back in  June 2016.

It felt just what I needed to wear for being out in the garden, reading in the long grass (I LOVE how the grass is for No Mow May- I like sitting in it when it is long, not so much when short!)

Let's look at it.

She wears pink high-waisted shorts with a pink top of some sort underneath. She wears simple white pumps on her feet and on top, she has a pastel checked blou

She wears pale pink high-waisted, fairly long shorts with a very pale pastel rainbow-checked shirt, tied up. Under it, she wears a peachy halterneck bikini.

I started with the shorts.  These are ridiculously comfortable and cost me very little second-hand a few years ago.  They have an elasticated back and button up and are made of a cotton linen mix. These are the same ones I wore in 2021. I see no need to change them. They are perfect coloured, shape and comfortable and they still fit me (unlike a few other pairs of shorts in my wardrobe).

You can't really see my feet but I am wearing nude-coloured ballet pumps. Very old, very crackly, but suitable for this type of thing!
I've used a different blouse from last time. I wore my question-mark shirt and then my brighter rainbow checked shirt last time but they were brighter. I found this one in the charity shop last year and realised it was the closest I was going to get to Peri's shirt.  I wore it mainly unbuttoned but tied at the bottom to mimic Peri's. After the photos, I wore it buttoned more and tucked in but I like it tied as it works with the high waist.    The shirt works so much better for this cosplay and I've realised, this is an outfit I might wear for school, as it is, in the early Summer.

One thing I am a little sad about is that I had the perfect bikini top for this cosplay, it was almost identical in shape to Peri's but a more bright red but I think I must have given it away to a charity shop last year. I didn't have matching bottoms so it seemed silly to have it. Only now have I realised its potential!

The lighting was dreadful for these photos but the original images are grainy so perhaps it is ok!

I spent much of the day reading my Kate Shackleton books and swapping over my Summer and Winter wardrobe items!

Hope you are well!

TARDIS Tuesday- Peri Brown from Attack of the Cybermen

This week for TARDIS Tuesday, we have an 80's cacophony of colour to contend with from one Miss Perpigillian or Peri Brown, companion to the equally brightly dressed 6th Doctor!

Here is a collage of images of her outfit from my friend Tamsin:

And here is my attempt:

Here is my version!
I must just put a disclaimer that I didn't really have a huge intention of doing this cosplay outfit UNLESS I saw the items very cheaply from a charity shop!
And so it was that, I went into my local charity shop to have a little look after posting a parcel (of cosplay clothes to my friend in Aus) and there, on the rails was both a pink top AND shorts priced £3.00 and £3.25 respectively! And for the price of a sandwich in a standard cafe plus a donation to charity, it seemed rude not to take advantage.

I already had a turquoise belt and bracelet plus pale pink shoes (all from Primark about a decade ago) and it was a simple matter to find a pair of round earrings  (you can't actually see them) and a turquoise ribbon from a present to complete the look!

I'm not used to wearing this shade of pink but I'm very pleased with how this came out. The moment I finished taking these photos, it tipped it down with rain and I had to bring various clothes horses, covered with washing, in.
Peri wore quite a few variations on this outfit so stayed tuned for something a bit similar at some point! I can foresee a few versions of something like this at some point soon!

I completed a grant application for school today as its deadline is tomorrow and I was waiting on a part of the application from someone else.  Coupled with needing to do a bit of cleaning and waking up horrendously late, I feel I've wasted this GORGEOUS DAY inside! Typical!

What do you think?

P.S. Thank you for all your kind anniversary wishes!

Pretending to be a pin-up girl

Howdy!  Hope you are having a beautiful day! As I write this, it is scorchingly hot, and I am sheltering inside before heading off to London for a leaving party for an acquaintance who is heading off round the world on a boat!

Last Saturday, we were going to a birthday barbecue and I decided it was really time I wore those polka dot scalloped shorts I bought with my birthday voucher in April.  Shamefully, I teamed it up with this Collectif Halter-neck top. I say shamefully, because I have definitely had it over 2 years unworn.  I ended up with it as I couldn't get a refund for something I bought in the sale there.
I confess that when I bought these, I thought they were a respectable length but actually I was pulling them down all day, it seemed like there was far too much leg on show- might reserve these for going to the beach!
As the holiday is 'Brooch time', I've been trying to vary my brooch selection but I confess that I am loving my ice-cream one too much! I was thinking of making myself a few more novelty ones but despite being at home for two weeks, I haven't made one though I have made about 14 cards!

Thanks for all your brooch advice. Yes, I have been trying to put the brooch on before donning the outfit, good idea chaps, don't always think of it before getting dressed though!
As we turned up to the birthday barbecue with his birthday presents, I noticed I inadvertently matched out present!
