TARDIS Tuesday- Victoria Waterfield from The Enemy of the World

This week, I thought I'd attempt one of my cosplans from last week's post. If you read it, I mentioned, I wanted to try and attempt some new companions from Classic Who ONLY using items I already had in my wardrobe!

It's a new companion for me, one I've not attempted before which is ex  Victoria Waterfield, who first featured in lost Dalek story, The Evil of the Daleks, is the archetypal screaming companion!  She is from the Victorian era and only about 14 years old.  In this serial, The Enemy of the World, the TARDIS lands on a beach and it transpires that the Doctor is a doppelganger for a tyranous leader.

Victoria has a cute outfit comprising of a turtle/polo neck jumper, tartan Tam O'Shanter hat, mini tartan kilt and simple shoes.

This colourised picture comes from a video by James Knox.  It seems to suggest Victoria's top is beige, her Tam O Shanter is purple and green/grey and her kilt similar. I only saw this picture after I wore the outfit but I'm not worried about this!

On the left is my attempt at the cosplay.  On the right is how I adapted it for attending an orchestra rehearsal.

I started with this little red wrap around tartan skirt. It was given to me by my work colleague, Deputy Head, as it didn't work for her. I tried a mustard turtle neck but it didn't look right with the colour so instead I wore this navy Esmara (Lidl) turtle neck.

I attempted some side by sides here but with smiles! I don't suit non-smiling!
My Tam O'Shanter hat came from the Kirkwall in the Orkneys islands but is Isle of Skye tartan! In retrospect, I think my Romana tartan baker boy hat, maybe worn backwards would have looked more the part but I like this Tam better!
I couldn't be bothered to root around for ankle strap shoes so I just donned some black T-bar shoes.

For orchestra, I added navy leggings and my trusty red Clarks boots. It wasn't actually cold at all today- I didn't feel cold just wearing bare legs but this skirt is too short for that!
I am lucky that one of the clarinettists in the orchestra lives in the same town as us and she gave me a lift to the rehearsal.  Unfortunately, we'd gone about 4 miles before I realised I'd forgotten my music! Oops!!!

I'm wondering if somewhere, I've got a better polo neck top to wear (mossy green?) but I guess I'll discover that when I swap over my clothes.

In doing this, I've realised, I could probably attempt JAMIE's outfit for this episode too.  I wore this same skirt when I attempted another Jamie outfit from The Mind Robber!  Watch this space!

TARDIS Tuesday - Zoe Herriot in The Mind Robber

TARDIS Tuesday this week is the other half of the pairing from last week's TARDIS Tuesday. I made an attempt at Jamie's outfit last week and after being egged on by Mags who was  little disappointed to see I wasn't donning my silver sparkly catsuit, I decided to oblige!

Let's remind ourselves of the outfit:

She wears a pewter-sparkly jumpsuit with white boots and her bobbed hair in a black headband.

And here's me!

I did originally buy this little jacket AND leggings with Zoe in mind and I last wore them together here for the 'Something beginning with S party'.  BUT, I wore them with a space dress as well.  I confess that there is NO way I would wear this combo out of the house as I do not believe in wearing leggings as trousers with nothing covering my bum- I just do not like the feeling or look and I am only wearing this combo for a dress up. Plus, the jacket is a little too short and rides up to reveal my tummy- not happening in public! I wish the collar of the jacke was a little taller as it's a little too low but considering both items came from a charity shop separately, I think they go ok together!

You can't see my headband at all which is a bit annoying- I did my fake bob haircut again!

Hope all is ok with you. I'm in school again this week- 3 days last week, 2 days this week. We seem to have lots of children- so many more than the last lock down. I confess that I don't relish this way of doing school- teaching other subjects full on for a few days and trying to get all the other online lessons done in the other days but it's the way it is.  I'm going to join in with  a Zoom with my old church praying for deliverance from all this, this week.

I keep thinking though that I am one of the lucky ones who has a job, who can make a difference, who has managed to survive through family illness unscathed and that it something that makes me grateful. I live in a nice place where I can walk without crowds.

 I hope you are well.

TARDIS Tuesday- Jamie McCrimmon from The Mind Robber- outfit

It's been a little while since I have done a Classic Who cosplay and I was inspired by one of my newer cosplaying friends @a_stitchin_timelord who posted a brilliant cosplay of the second and first Doctor's long term companion, highlander, Jamie McCrimmon.  His outfit features in my favourite Patrick Troughton story- The Mind Robber.  It's a totally mad story in which the TARDIS blows apart and the Doctor and Jamie and Zoe end up in the Land of Fiction trying to puzzle their way out of it!

Here's a little sequence from it.

Jamie pretty much always wears his tartan kilt but with different accompanying garments. In this episode, he sports his red tartan with a black polo neck, his sporran, grey socks and black boots.  Earlier in the episode, he sports a sheepskin and suede gilet.

At one point in the episode, his face gets taken away and they have to put his face back together as a jigsaw but they get it wrong so he has a different face for several episodes.  The reason for this was that the actor was really ill and they had to film without him so they wrote it into the plot!

who did an amazing version of this cosplay!

And here's my version:

It was Sunday morning and I was thinking about TARDIS Tuesday, knowing I was in school on Tuesday but wanting to do a different character. I've been concentrating on Yaz Khan recently, mainly because her outfits are cosplay and good for being at home but I wanted to put something together.
I suddenly remembered Liam's version of this outfit and thought I'd try and put it together from my wardrobe.
I started with my black polo neck number- I couldn't find the higher-necked one I wanted to wear (WHY?) so I wore this Primark one.  The Scottish wrap skirt I am wearing was a gift from my Deputy Head teacher at school- she bought it from Greenwich market but has never worn it and it's too short for her so she gave it to me to have if I wanted or donate if not. I was actually going to donate it as I have something similar, but of course it is still sitting in limbo waiting its charity shop trip so I fished it out. I may use it again for some more Jamie!
My vintage 70's sheepskin gilet is is not the same colour as Jamie's but it work as a similar idea.
Grey socks and black boots as well as a black belt were easy to cobble together.
I did think I needed a sporran though so after church (online) on Sunday, I decided to try and craft something that would sort of resemble one from a distance! I grabbed some black and white craft foam and and something.  Couldn't seem to find ANY ribbon of the correct colour so I just tied it with embroidery silk round my waist!
As you can see, my sporran isn't particularly effective up close, but it does the job and it was fun to try and put it together and do a bit of sewing!

If I had had my hair cut, I might be giving Zoe's outfit a go next week- hmmm, mainly I can do a fake Bob!

What do you think?

Favourite TARDIS Tuesday outfits of the year.

Hello there!

Happy New Year!

I hope you are well.  We've had a lovely couple of days with walks and I have some more Fungi-action coming your way soon!

Today, I thought I'd share my favourite TARDIS Tuesday looks from the year (in the absence of enthusiasm to write something more complicated!

I've picked one from each month.  The original posts are linked to in the month title.

January:

This was a Yaz Khan outfit and I was very happy to have identified this outfit myself.  The jumpsuit is a really lovely pattern and it's a really easy outfit to wear that you can look smart in.

I loved dressing up as the 2nd Doctor with CBC's DJ and some other bits and pieces I had scattered around.

I chose this Osgood post because it's a fun outfit.

I chose another of Osgood's outfits I did as a closet cosplay as I was really pleased with it! Bow ties are cool!

I chose this smart look (which I wore for a friend's Zoom birthday party as worn by Yaz Khan in Spyfall- it's quite a smart outfit that I would wear next time I have to wear Black and White for a concert. Plus, it has sparkles!

June's outfit doubled up with Style Imitating Art. It was a variation on a Clara Oswald outfit and I felt cool in it!

July's outfit featured my favourite TARDIS dress and was worn on a particularly fun and sunny day.

I had to choose my Seeds of Doom outfit for August. Because I wore a pile of garden waste!

September, I chose Clara's Ultimate Guide outfit because it's cool and looks like an oil slick!

October, I chose Yaz Khan's outfit from Can you Hear Me? I was proud of my maxi-dress disguised as a top!

November, I chose my Clara Oswald Nightmare in Silver outfit as I was super chuffed to have found her screen-accurate All Saints jacket for £11 secondhand. I never would have bought this jacket for its full price (£300+) or even what most people usually pay second hand for it but I was delighted with my bargain and it completed this outfit beautifully- I like all the matching in this.

Finally, for December, I chose Yaz's other outfit from Spyfall because the top is sunny and fun! (and it was the best one out of the month).

Out of my favouries which one is your favourite?

TARDIS Tuesday- Patrick Troughton's 2nd Doctor

Hello there friends,
I hope you are well.  Today's TARDIS Tuesday outfit is one I haven't tried before!  I've attempted to dress as the actual Doctor him/her/self only a few times and today I thought I'd dress as the Second Doctor who was played by Patrick Troughton who I haven't tried before.

I chose a combination of his outfits to dress as:

The first is an episode which was in colour- The Three Doctors  which featured Patrick Troughton alongside his previous and following regenerations.

I'm also making reference to the outfit he wore in one of his own episodes which was in Black and white so we don't see the colours.

His style has been described as a Cosmic Hobo before. Some of his enemies and acquaintances referred to him as "That scruffy little fellow."  He, for me is one of the most endearing regenerations of the Doctor.

So, what does this outfit consist of:
Pale blue shirt
Floppy bow tie
High waisted checked trousers in black/grey
Long black/navy frock coat or suit jacket.

And who can forget that Patrick Troughton's Doctor was infamous for playing the recorder!?

Here's my attempt:

Let's begin with my starting point:  This blue charity-shopped shirt.  I bought this about 4 years ago and I have worn it many, many times. It's quite boring but it is a useful basis for many outfits.
I added my black vintage  St Michael's black lady-tie which was also charity shopped around 5 years ago.

The next item is my checked trousers.  These were bought from Joanie Clothing back in 2018 in the sale and are a beautifully snuggly soft material so I have worn them many times.
The jacket belongs to CBC and it was hanging up in our bedroom so I pinched it for the photos.  Underneath, I am wearing a black cashmere cardigan which is how I kept this outfit warm at school.
The final item was my black Clarks men's boots.  I DID buy these recently in the sale.  I admired them at full price back in October AND tried them on.  I bought them for 70% off in the January sales as they are the closest to my Dr Marten's Joylyn boots that I can find.

And of course, the recorder!  I did record a video of me playing the Doctor Who theme on my recorder but it cut out half-way through so that's a particular pleasure/torture you will have to forgo.  Actually, I am a very accomplished recorder player (I represented my local music festival in the Leeds Millenium festival playing recorder) so I promise you it wouldn't be that bad!

What do you think?  Not bad for a little root around my wardrobe!
