Anyway, today's brief was Wishlishts.
Wishlists. Hmmmm, I am always a little reluctant to put these together even though I LOVE looking at other people's and drooling over incredible things they have found. But for making one myself, I just think I have too much stuff and the things I would quite like are often too expensive plus my willpower is too slim and putting lists might make me indulge. But still, for the sake of this post, I think it would be nice to share a few things I'd like. One frivolous and tangible. The other intangible and worthwhile! Take your pick.
So a few wishlists:
1. Flute wishlist:
As an orchestral flute player (in my amateur life rather than as a pro more's the pity!), there are various pieces I have had the privilege to play many pieces on my wishlist and there are others which remain stubbornly out of reach.
Here are some pieces I'd REALLY like to play with an orchestra. Unless specified, I mean the Flute 1 part/Principal flute.
1. Berlioz- Symphonie Fantastique.
This was Hector Berlioz' opium-induced crazy symphony based on the journeys of Him. He was in love with Harriet Smithson, an actress but alas she didn't love him. He wrote this symphony in which he, the hero kept going to places and he is in love with Harriet. She has an idee fixe which is the musical word for a short repeating tune that keeps coming back- a fixed idea. It comes back through all five movements- in a dream, at a ball, in the countryside, as a witch at the midnight sabbath and as a victim going to the scaffold. Believe it or not, she was so flattered by this that she agreed to marry him! Here you can hear Harriet's theme in its different guises
Anyway, I have played 2nd flute and piccolo in this MANY times and even viola but never played Flute 1! It remains no.1 on my list.
2. Gustav Mahler, Symphony no.2- "The resurrection"
I've played all the other Mahler Symphonies but number 2 which is just beautiful, I have not played.
3. Dmitry Shostakovitch any of his symphonies.
I've only played Flute 2, piccolo or Percussion in any of his 15 symphonies so I'd gladly play any of these.
4. Rossini 'Overture to William Tell'
I have played flute 2 and viola more times than I care to say but never flute 1. Why not!?!!?!
5. Igor Stravinsky 'Petroushka'
Again, I have played flute 2, piccolo AND viola in this and studied it for A level but never played 1st flute. There's a lot of Stravinsky on my wish list
6. Any orchestral piece by Paul Hindemith.
7. The whole of Ravel's Mother Goose Ballet and in fact, the whole of Daphnis and Chloe ballet (which I HAVE performed THE famous flute solo in a performance conducted by Nick Collon of Aurora orchestra and proms fame, before he was famous!)
I won't share anymore as if you aren't a flautist, it's probably not relevant...
The frivolous wishlist:
Most of the things on here I wouldn't DREAM of asking (and any family members this is NOT a cheeky hint, this is a hypothetical wishlist!) for, for a birthday or Christmas. But for the sake of my art (er- this blog post request?) I shall suffer and share with you a few items I am rather in admiration of.
1. I'd love a turquoise glittery Kezzie name necklace from Tatty Devine or a cheap alternative that looks the same (Ebay lady in Cumbria) as they are too expensive- £37.50+! Would also like one that says 'Impossible girl' in mirrored TARDIS blue acrylic!! To be honest, I'd be glad with any 'not too out there' from Tatty Devine.
2. I love most dresses from Poppy England- they are so fun. I own one which I got heavily reduced at 70% off in navy blue. I own many dresses so it wouldn't be a good idea buying more, especially an expensive one like this!Nice it is all cotton and made in England.

I used to have the privilege of working for this fine luthier and at the Academy looking after these instruments and I LOVED the Landolfi viola. I would probably like playing my viola more if I had a really nice one. Not that I don't love Frederica, but having tried some amazing historic instruments, I've been lured to the dark side.
4. I love Anna Chocola in Brighton's handmade vintage-pattern hats. Especially the cloches. Would definitely love one of these if I didn't already have ten million hats! I keep thinking these would be GORGEOUS for a wedding outfit. Wish I had one for wedding next week!

I have several and don't need any more but I always love a good novelty print. Not bothered by the generic florals or spots but a fish dress? Who DOESN'T need one of these in their life? (not me I am in no doubt
6. In some ways I would love to learn to use an SLR or Bridge camera, not sure I'd be any good at it, but I do love my Canon Ixus, possibly THE most useful and well used presents I have ever received so this is just a curious pondering!
Oh WHAT the heck, I'm on a roll, let's just shove in wishlists willy-nilly!

Blog wishlist (not really):
1. To gain sudden popularity of people who love my witty style of writing (ho, ho ho) and be able to live off the proceeds, yet remain anonymous and simple. Yeh right...
2. To actually make it to 200 followers before the next ice-age. My followers list moves at a glacial speed!
3. To be able to do it all in 15 minutes. That's commenting thoughtfully, writing award-winning posts and getting to bed by 10!
4. To not be scared to change header/layout etc or change blog url/name to something else I had in mind without losing anything!
5. To be able to write a bit more concisely and not feel need to stuff extra sentences in like they're going extinct.
