Hi there,
I'm sorry I've not been on here for a couple of days. I am so thoroughly sick of staring at a screen and using computers that I just couldn't bear to go near it! Today has been tiresome. I think the thing I find most annoying about preparing about these online lessons is that it is so inefficient- I spend SO much time on them and though what I get in return from the children is negligible and seems not worth the effort, this is not the annoying part: it is the sheer frustration that I would be able to teach these lessons in person in an hour (to each class), being able to give instant feedback, improve playing, assess them, be able to explain in a child-friendly way if they don't understand something. Whereas in the current situation, I expend all this energy trying to create a presentation that is easy to navigate, contains multimedia, allows for different abilities, isn't so massive, can actually be uploaded that gives enough work but not too much and then I can't really see what the children are producing from it as I don't know how they can upload videos (and the size is unwieldly and the amount of time to type feedback to each individual if they DID, would be unmanageable). It was so annoying that I'd prepared my Year 6 lesson powerpoint with everything they needed, recorded audio instructions and examples and when I uploaded it to Googledrive, I couldn't hear ANY of the audio- it hadn't attached any of it! So annoying!
I feel like I am wasting my time and not achieving much and that makes me struggle to be even more efficient because I hate feeling so inadequate.
Ah, any way, enough of that, that's why I don't really want to be on the screen. I've got loads I want to blog about but things that take a bit of time and thought so I am resorting to something easy- talking about an outfit.
This week's TARDIS Tuesday is another Yaz Khan outfit. This one is entirely a closet cosplay as in I haven't bought anything specifically aimed at this cosplay, it's things I had for other cosplays or in my wardrobe anyway.
Let's have a look at it. Yaz wore this outfit for the episode called It takes you away which was the first programme to feature a blind actor as a main part.
She wears her brown All Saints jacket along with a cream/oatmeal jumper, blue jeans and her Dune burgundy flatform Pacey boots and her hair in buns.

I decided that it would be fun to recreate these three poses in my outfit.

I'm not surprised you're fed up with staring at a computer screen, remote learning must be such a pain.
ReplyDeleteThose jeans are a great fit and I'm drooling over Yaz Khan's original boots, I'd love a pair of them!
Get yourself some "hair screws", I often wear my hair like that at festivals and they don't budge. Mine were from Poundland but i think they're widely avaialble. Stay sane! xxx
All the extra complications of "preparing screen stuff for others to watch and learn" is really draining, on top of the regular computer work. I do feel for you. Love the jumper - either way round
ReplyDeleteOh, Kezzie, the nation and the world must be falling into screen fatigue. You are such an inspired and inspiring teacher, it can't at all be squeezed into pixels. Can you pare back? Even this will pass, won't it?
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is right up my street - jeans, boots, jumper, it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe thing with Yaz's hair is that it looks effortless but probably has all sorts of pins to keep it in place, which isn't easy when you're doing it yourself.
As for the current teaching situation, please remember that you're doing what you can in difficult circumstances. The kids are still learning even if it's in an unusual way. I know you'd rather be in the classroom, and that must be very frustrating. Hang in there, this won't last forever!
xx
I've never heard of hair screws and had to look it up. I still don't know how they are used but it might be a solution to keeping your buns up safely.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you as you struggle with computer issues. Everything is all of a sudden so complicated.
I like your take on the jumper (which we call pull over sweater) by turning it around. Very cleaver.
I wish you a sooth day today.
Hugs, Julia
Oh technology, it's such a pain! I do feel sorry for you and those woes Kezzie, I hope things find themselves a smoother way forwards. It must be maddening to go to all that effort only to have it dashed.
ReplyDeleteI used to have jeans decorated at the hem, they were so cool. xx
I cannot even begin to imagine how frustrating remote learning must be, it must be time and energy sapping. Technology can be such a pain if it doesn't do what you want it to do. I'm on the computer on my two office days too and I absolutely hate it if anything goes wrong and I have to call up the IT company and have to wait for them to call me back and access my pc remotely, while in the meantime I'm twiddling my thumbs as I can't to anything. I know this does not even begin to compare with your issues, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your "workhorse" jacket, and turning that jumper around was a genius idea! xxx
Remote learning sounds SO onerous, Kezzie, you have my deep admiration for your patience!
ReplyDeleteI love your Yaz outfit! Your hair looks great, although you had issues with it. My own hair is so slippery and fine, I can't hold any hairstyle longer than an hour before it all falls out.
You did a great job recreating the look! The rabbit jumper is cute!

I feel for you Kezzie with preparing the learning material for your students especially when yours is such a practical subject. I'm surprised that you have to make up your own videos. What a technical challenge that must be! I can understand why looking at a screen must be tiring. I limit my screen time, but you, your students and office workers are stuck with working that way at the moment. Take care Kezzie. I can see why having fun with your outfits is a light relief.
