Oh, slender slices of heaven!
Thin, crispy- sometimes large, sometimes tiny morsels, hiding amongst the metal sheets
That iconic crunch as you descend past gate-like teeth into gullet.
You dance a merry jig upon welcoming taste-buds.
Perhaps a sizzling paprika, an imposing chilli, a gentle salting, authoritative vinegar?
Delicious cheese, pronounced bacon, roasted meat?
Oh the many flavours vie for my love!
Alas though, we cannot be together long-term
You will cause anguish to my heart, medical, it seems.
You must leave my life at some point or at least keep your distance, visit sparingly.
Oh how I wish you were a better companion to my diet!

Can you guess what I am talking about?
Crisps of course. Potato chips to international readers.
Oh, my greatest guilty pleasure is crisps. I love them to distraction and life without them would be intolerable!
I can easily eat more than one bag in a sitting. Woe betide leaving me alone with a family-sized portion of prawn-crackers. They would be decimated, exterminated, obliterated from existence. I make myself give them up for Lent as I know how reliant I am on my daily crisp-fix. And yet, a heart-surgeon told a friend they are singularly the worst thing you can regularly eat for heart care. Oh but that I could resist. Flavour is not an issue- any bag will do although I do have favourites and am not fond of chicken-flavoured ones but they are my most guilty pleasure.
Over you to you: How do you feel about crisps? What is your weakness?

This is my Day 4 contribution to Blog every day in May.
I'm terrible for crisps too... I just can't stop! If I buy a multipack, I'll eat them all the packets, one after other - those manufacturers make them too tasty, and then there's the MSG. I keep trying to give them up but they're such an easy snack!
ReplyDeleteMmm...I love potato chips. I don't eat them often but when I do, I could certainly eat a whole bag!
ReplyDeleteI knew it would be that! I thought - by the way, immediately, about Pringles (maybe I shouldn't advertise any brand, but... anyway!) I know it's the worst thing for health (wait a minute! Caustic soda is worse than that!), but I love them too! But no, I don't eat them very much... don't know why, but little by little I have stopped. I love chocolate... that's my weakness, I think!

I accidently scrolled down to your previous picture and Arthur thought your guilty pleasure was going to be a Flake chocolate bar, 'cos you looked like a girl in one of those iconic adverts!
ReplyDeleteI quite like the chicken flavour ones, but my faves were the original 'salt 'n' shake' ones when I was a kid and they were a real treat.

I guess chips as it's a universal favorite junk food. Who doesn't love chips!!!! I love chips too but I only buy a bag once in a while and I limit myself to a small bowl or two. I don't think I could eat a whole bag at one sitting. Since I try to stay away from too much additive I buy the plain chips with reduce salt. I find them salty enough. I would feel very guilty if I didn't save some for my husband.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
JB
Kezzie I am right there with you! Crisps are a serious guilty pleasure for me, I could happily go through the big share bags each day! - Tasha
ReplyDeleteOh I am bad at this, I thought it was a brawny member of the weasel family. I better stick to playing What Is It from now on
ReplyDeleteOh oh oh! Crisps. I adore them! They are one of my downfalls. French flavours are very odd (goats cheese? bolognaise?) but I can still getmy favourite chicken. And there's sometimes Sweet chilli to be found!
ReplyDeleteCrisps of any kind are just the best. When I was younger and an even picker eater than I am now my tea would be a Golden Wonder cheese and onion crisp sandwich!
ReplyDeleteLisa x
Yes Golden Wonder Cheese and Onion make the best sandwiches :)
DeleteLove crisps - just love them!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm there, too! Stuff chocolate and cakes and sugary sweets, it's savoury snacks all the way. Salt & Vinegar crisps, Twiglets, chilli nuts, Bombay mix and Lidl pretzels. I'm hungry now! x
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'm not really fussed on crisps. Sometimes I'll have those vegetable ones, which are quite nice.
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm another crisps fan. Salty, savoury, spicy snacks all the way for me!
ReplyDeleteI've just realised what BEDM means, and I have read your previous posts, honest, but I'm struggling to catch up... I'm a bit hopeless at commenting everyday so if I miss posts, please forgive me, Kezzie, I'll try and read even if I don't comment on every one! xxx
I'm with all the way.... we stopped buying them because I can't resist them! Jx PS - my flavour is Salt and Vinegar.
ReplyDeleteI used to love chips and I enjoyed them with pleasure...but ever since I've been diagnosed with Chron, I'm really strict when it comes to what I eat. I allow myself some sweets from time to time, but most of times I adhere to recommended nutrition.
ReplyDeleteI don't think chips are as unhealthy if you prepare them at home. Try that...maybe with a bit of olive oil. I sometimes prepare potatoes on their own in the oven...just salt and a spoon of water...and they taste lovely, almost like real chips:)
Chips?! I'm a glutton for chips, so I only buy the child's lunch-sized bags, the minis, and eat half. I don't like dill pickle or ketchup flavor but most others will do. And corn chips. Yummm. Barbecue. One of my fave snacks.
ReplyDeleteI too love my crisps. It is funny to see how many of the #BEDM guilty pleasures posts have crisps on it.
ReplyDeleteCrisps are the BEST. I'm quite good at resisting chocolate, but I can demolish a 'sharing' bag of crisps in an embarrassingly short amount of time!
ReplyDeleteLiz xx
Distract Me Now Please
I love crisps! My favourites are local ones, made not far from here, but I can't remember the name of them for the life of me! I'm going to have to go and find out... (and maybe buy a packet!)
ReplyDeleteFairfield Farm Crisps!! Farmhouse cheese and chive are the best
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fairfieldsfarmcrisps.co.uk/farmhouse-cheese-chive.html
ReplyDeleteMade with Suffolk farmhouse Cheese - which is made just down the road from me.
I'll stop now.
I do love crisps (and usually have a packet a day), but not as much as sweet things. I'm quite strict in that I tend to eat lighter crisps (low fat/calorie) like Walkers Baked, Pom Bears or there's new lighter Hula Hoops, just called Hoops I think (my youngest nephew calls them 'oops' and was thoroughly unimpressed when he realised they weren't the real deal)! I would love to eat Pringles, those really deep ridged Walkers ones, proper Hula Hoops or mmmm prawn cocktail crisps, but try not to!
