TARDIS Tuesday- Rocking a Red dress- Oswin Oswald

Today's TARDIS Tuesday is an exciting one for me!  For it was the first episode that we ever met my favourite character Clara. Except she wasn't Clara then...
No, back in series 7 when the Doctor was still travelling with the Ponds, in an episode called Asylum of the Daleks, we met Junior Entertainment officer on the Alaska, Oswin Oswald.  She was hiding out in the Asylum of the Daleks from all the Daleks, making lots of Souffles and listening to Carmen!

The music Carmen was very appropriate as she dressed as a Femme fatale in a fitted red dress, long curled hair and a belt with various pieces of equipment.
She was also sporting a pair of red wedged trainers (from River Island) and some red socks with white stripes.  It's one of those iconic outfits that is instantly recognisable as a Clara (or rather Oswin) outfit.  You can see her trainers and socks JUST in the picture below.

Here's my version of it.
"Rescue me Chin Boy and show me the stars!"

I confess that, I'm very sad to say that unless I find some red shorts to go under this dress, it will not be one I'll wear out as it is ridiculously short unless I wear it with leggings.   The dress was second-hand on eBay and it's hard to judge length!   Fun fact- this same brand of dress was worn by Zooey Deschanel in New Girl!  I added the whisk and a belt I had anyway.   The trainers are also from River Island but aren't the exact ones, nor are the socks- second hand and a lucky find.

My hair was quite curly as I had plaited it when it was wet so it seemed a good time to rock the Oswin look.  Couldn't be bothered to search for red lipstick.
I thought I'd try to recreate the pose from the moment that Oswin realises she has been converted into a Dalek- I couldn't find an image so I've made my own comparison below.

This is a lovely outfit but I wish my dress were a bit longer!!!

What do you think of this outfit?

  1. How about making a super simple elastic waisted red skirt ( of cheap cotton or such) to go right under it and sticking out however many more inches you feel it needs?
Another alternative which my mother used on a dress for me was to chop off the hem, insert a sideways panel of coordinated fabric and then reattach the hem.
I like you in the red and the pleats are very cute.

  2. Kezzie you had a dodgy comment from India yesterday. You need to delete it now. I'm away from home so don't have your email address, so I hope you pick this up soon

  3. The dress is lovely but like you said, it is a shame that it's so short. Could you let down the hem and sew another piece that would not be seen when the hem would be sew to extend the dress?

  4. I agree the dress is rather short. Otherwise, your take on Clara's outfit is spot on and the addition of the whisk made me smile! xxx

  5. You look so pretty in this red outfit. This shade of red suits you perfectly. The dress is definitely on the shorter side but you can always wear it with leggings or tights.

  6. This outfit suits you. The dress is rather short though, but with capri leggings I think it would be okay.

  7. I'd say this is a pretty iconic outfit for Clara. I love your version as I adore New Girl too! What a shame the skirt is so short, but it'll still look really lovely with leggings underneath.

  10. I looked and thought about this outfit a lot. Came to the conclusion that black leggings worn underneath will do the trick perfectly!
