On Saturday, CBC and I decided to head into London to go to the London Swing Dance Society's Saturday Night Swing Club. We haven't been to it for well on a year, I'm sure. We wondered whether to go or not, sometimes it seems hard work, the thought of going up to London, the cost, the time involved, the thought that we should be doing work. But we decided that we MUST go and not stay at home and regret it. We had a super time, did some dancing together on the social dancing floors and went to three classes. The first was a Charleston class- solo charleston with a Catrine Ljunggren which was great fun, followed by a cool dance called Peasbody, named after a large man in the 30's who developed a new style of dancing to accommodate his large tummy! Finally, we did some Blues with Catrine. I always feel self-conscious with the blues- it's a very close dance and it can come across a bit sleezy though it isn't supposed to be. You tend to find that anyone who isn't English is totally ok with it and us English girls feel a bit self-conscious and embarrassed.
At this point, we had to head back in order to get the 00:10 train. The Magpie and Stump, where the night is held, is near the Old Bailey. You can walk into Paternoster Square and see this beautiful nighttime view of St Paul's Cathedral. The city of London is very beautiful at night, especially all the buildings that are lit up. It's amazing how deserted it is when it is so busy during the working day and even the weekend.

I decided to wear this red halter-neck dress for the night. It was a charity-shop/thrifted bargain, originally from New Look. I was delighted to find this dress in the shhop, it is a great swing dancing dress. You can't resist a red dress! I added a vintage Aurora Borealis necklace, a heart-belt and these Shoe-zone shoes which are great for swing dancing- light fabric to avoid sweaty-feet, nice smooth heels and stay on your foot with the strap. My chief requirement for swing dance shoes.
How do you feel about going out to town on a Saturday evening? Or what do you do with your Saturday nights?
xx
Saturday nights? He writes sermons and I do the ironing! Now MONDAY nights, that's a different matter!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't do anything like that ever! We rarely go out (except the odd bat walk or moth event!) - Saturday night is like every other for us, we are mostly on our own computers, except a TV break for Doctor Who! London by night looks quite good, I think I could cope with that - mental note! Your red dress looks great, glad you enjoyed the evening out :)
ReplyDeleteGreat dress, that first photo is brilliant! No nights out for me EVER, but that sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly not a fan of typical "Saturday nights out" (not a fan of drinking etc) but sometimes we'll head out to one of my favourite little bars and catch up with friends - somewhere quiet enough to be able to hear the conversation is a must.
ReplyDeleteGreat background and red looks great on you.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not at work on a Sunday then Saturday night is spent pretty much the same way as it has been since i was a teenager, getting my gladrags on, going into town and drinking with friends, love it! x
your look very lovely in this gorgeous black dress!
ReplyDeleteYour dress is adorable!! Great pictures!!
ReplyDeleteOur Saturday nights are pretty tame now that we have the babe - we pretty much eat dinner and watch a movie. Sometimes we have dinner with family and play cards.
You look so pretty - I love your red dress. Our Saturdays are just staying up late and playing games :)

What beautiful photos...it almost looks like a painted backdrop!! And what a fun Saturday night. I'm glad you went!! We go back and forth on Saturdays. Normally we are home with the kids, and after they go to bed, Chris and I will listen to music and have some wine. But some nights we get a sitter and make a whole night of it...fun either way!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great evening; sometimes it takes a real effort to get up and out, but it's always worth it, I find!
ReplyDeleteLove your red frock, perfect for dancing. xxx
The lighting is amazing- so much cooler than how it looks during the day! This sounds like a wonderful Saturday night :) Most of my evenings are the same, regardless of weekday or weekend- home, do some chores, put on pyjamas, drink some tea, read something, eat some food, browse the internet while watching TV and eating pudding, bed. Incredibly boring for a lot of people I'm sure, but it makes me happy :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI love swing dancing! Not that I have done anything remotely like it in a long long time so maybe I should say I love the concept of it. Your red dress is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSaturday night is like any other night for me and I generally stay home. I don't have much energy for going out and not much of a social life either. My friends have families so there is not much in the way of parties and it's a small town so not much in the way of clubs. I often paint on a Saturday night and listen to a radio programme called Vinyl Tap which is about music.
xoxo
Thank you so much for your comment.

How great that you two decided to go for it and make the trek on Saturday night! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Your outfit is spot on - there's just something about a red dress, isn't there? You look lovely and these pictures in the square are great! I like to go out on Saturday nights, usually to plays or parties, but I'd love to be adventurous one of these days and give dancing a try :)

You and CBC belong in the 1940s. You are too cute to be here in the 21st century! Thanks for making me smile with details of date night:) xo
ReplyDeleteI used to meet friends every Saturday night but these days you can find me at home, working, reading or, depending on the time of year, spending an evening relaxing with Andy and a bottle of wine. Once in a while we'll make the effort to get dressed up and go out and now that we do this less frequently I actually enjoy it more.
ReplyDeleteI love London at night.
Well, I will admit that when I was young like you, a night on the town with my "main squeeze" was loads of fun. Then we spent many years having and raising kids. And now we both truly enjoy STAYING HOME :) I wouldn't mind a slow, quiet elegant dinner in a big city, followed by a show or movie or some such. I used to love to dance, but my husband has no (absolutely NO) sense of rhythm, so we don't dance. Rather sad :( And do I know you well enough to say this? (I hope so!) You are adorable! Your photos look so young an fresh and cute :) Just thought you'd like to know!
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely and it sounds like a great evening out. I'm just getting into line dancing...my Wednesday evenings are spent learning dances
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures Kezzie, loving your dress :)
