As some of you may or may not know, every year since I have been at my school (all 14 years!), I have composed an original song for the children to sing at the church for our Christmas performance. It's one of my favourite things I do in the year and to hear our children singing my own song always makes me very proud. As we teach the children, it is important that you learn to write for a specific audience, be that writing instructions for a recipe, a letter to your local MP, a fairy tale story for Reception children, a fanfare for a king and in this case, a Christmas song for a choir or school and I do this as an exercise to show that the learning never stops, nor does the creative process, no matter how old you are and that being a teacher is not all we are- we have skills, interests and hobbies that we do beyond the classroom. As well as, of course, showing the children I care about them by writing something FOR THEM specifically.
Hope this Christmas
It’s been a hard year and we’ve found things changing too much.
It’s hard to see when the hardships and restrictions can all cease.
Times are strange and there’s sadness so
We must stay strong, keep our faith and let’s have
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Don’t give up now, Trust and pray and keep on striving, keep the season’s Joy!
It’s been oh so hard, when we we’re lost and oh so lonely,
But we can find joy, if we try to seek it, try to let it shine,
Yes there’s fear but there’s courage, strength so
We must be kind, show our love and always:
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Don’t give up now, Trust and pray and keep on striving, keep the season’s Joy!
Keep the hope, keep the joy, don’t give up, share your love, you’ve got to keep that
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Hope this Christmas, Hope this Christmas,
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Stay safe this Christmas Stay safe this Christmas
Don’t give up now, Trust and pray and keep on striving, keep the season’s Joy!
This is part of my 'Advent at Home' post with Ang.
I think this is lovely. I was trying to imagine a particular school choir I knew in Leicester singing it. I think they'd have done it well. How sad for you not to be able to do a song with your students this year. I hope CBC going on OK and your test comes back negative.( I never even knew about priority post boxes) nhs111online is a really helpful site. When Bob had covid19 in March and his symptoms seemed worse I used that site, and a Dr rang back to talk to us. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Xxx
ReplyDeleteHope CBC is feeling better today
ReplyDeleteKezzie, that was a beautiful song and your singing is an absolute delight. Such a shame your classes didn't get to record it together this year. I've been thinking of you both and hoping you are well and don't catch the virus too. xx
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful voice Kezzie. Great song.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely song and you have a beautiful voice.
ReplyDeleteI teach yoga in primary schools and use singing as a breathing technique and I do know I am the world's worst singer - the children love telling me and I have to agree!
Very beautiful - well done
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely and very uplifting song, Kezzie, and I can understand your frustration that you won't be able to go ahead with your plans. It would have sounded incredible sung in choir!
ReplyDeleteI do hope CBC is starting to feel a bit better. You are both in my thoughts! xxx
Absolutely brilliant, just what's needed during this horrid time. I'm always in awe of people who play instruments and can read music. I wish I could. I hope you continue to stay well and that hubby feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThat is just lovely, Kezzie!
ReplyDeleteThat's made my morning, Kezzie! thanks for sharing! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song! You sang it beautifully. I'm amazed at your composing skills. To compose a song every year for 14 years. Such a fine tradition and a great example for the kids. It is unfortunate that you will not be able to perform it with kids, but perhaps better safe than sorry as they say. We had some teachers at the school in Hvar catch the virus during their choir rehearsal in the church. Your composition makes me think of old Christian music from middle ages, it is very calming but uplifting at the same time. My husband says it makes him think of Harry Potter movies. Happy holidays dear!
ReplyDeletethank you for such a lovely song
ReplyDeleteI know you said NO positive comments ... but I can't help but say that this is lovely, and it was wonderful hearing your singing voice! I know how hard it is to play (esp. a quick, perky tempo) and sing at the same time. Hard to focus on everything at the same time. You have a lovely tone, and a beautiful, pure sound. Don't stop singing, even though you do so many other musical things! You have a nice range too :)
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely Kezzie, you have a wonderful voice and it's such a treat to hear you play the piano. It's a shame the children didn't get to record it.
