The Doctor Who Experience, Cardiff- Lower floor!

Hello there!

I hope you are well.

I thought I'd share some of my photos from my recent trip to Cardiff. The Doctor Who experience is due to close in July this year (exact date TBC) and I am incredibly grateful to all the Clara Oswalders on Instagram who I have to thank for my knowing this!

If you book in advance, the tickets are slightly cheaper, however there is a booking fee which makes the difference negligible unless you book the Merchandise ticket.  The normal ticket is £14 for one adult on the door in advance (plus a booking fee) and the merchandise ticket is £32.50.  If you book the merchandise ticket, you get a pack of goodies including a bag, t-shirt, souvenir ticket and companion guide, TARDIS Key and certificate.
I opted for the plain ticket much as I was sorely tempted to go for the merchandise ticket because I figured I was already spending money on petrol getting there and I should probably spend the money on buying something specific if were to spend it.  What would you have done?

As you come in, you are greeted by the costumes of Peter Capaldi and Clara Oswald (from the Day of the Doctor)
I love this cardie. I wonder if I could recreate the effect by some sort of sewing or embroidery in white or grey? I suspect my skills aren't up to it, though!
What I saw next was a set of handprints made by various Doctors and companions!

My hands are bigger than Jenna Coleman...
 ...but smaller than Peter Capaldi...
....and Paul McGann!  I was a dead ringer for Jamie McCribbon though!
The fabulous painting by Vincent Van Gogh of the TARDIS being blown apart!
The Dalek made of Lego was super impressive. You can see all this lot without going into the Experience as the shop is available to any visitors.
A row of Daleks always makes me nervous. I'd choose the middle one! Renegade Daleks anyday!
Once your allotted time for doing the 'Doctor Who' experience arrives, you go into a smaller area to await entering the 'Gallifrey Museum' .  It  holds some relics of the Timelords and costumes.

Above, you can see the costumes of the Timelords: Omega, Rassilon, The Rani and The Master.
I spotted the Key to Time (from the 4th Doctor's tenure) as we were going in.
In the Gallifrey Museum, no photos are allowed, but basically you have an actor who takes you on an Adventure where you move through different times and places with the aid of these special crystals! It was very exciting and I got to help fly the TARDIS and run away from Weeping Angels! Apart from that, I  won't spoil it for you but it is super exciting and interactive!
After the interactive experience, you got to enter and see different TARDIS console rooms and consoles from different eras.
 Here's the original TARDIS console.
Unfortunately, an unexpected Dalek caught me unawares!
Here's a Menoptera, an early enemy of William Hartnell's era from a serial entitled, "The Web Planet"
There were props from the early days.
Here's a scene from the Dalek Invasion of Earth!
There was a fascinating section on the BBC Radiophonic workshop and how Ron Grainger's tune became the iconic music it is today!
I have to say that standing by the TARDIS console was so exciting for me!
Here's a scene from the 4th Doctor's adventure, The Leisure Hive. I did a TARDIS Tuesday based on Romana's costume from this a few weeks ago.
 Here I met K9!

Moving on, next I saw David Tennant's TARDIS console which was super exciting and a detailed contrast to the stark 1st console.

I pictured Donna Noble becoming the Doctor Donna in here!

Unfortunately you can't mess around with the consoles as there are barriers in the way.  All the time, music and quotes and scenes from the new series are playing here.
Next,we moved over to an area with a Green Screen where you can have your photos taken with a TARDIS console or background of your choice.  There are props and bits of costume to get dressed up in.  Scarves, Question Mark umbrellas, Sonic Screwdrivers!
And here are CBC and I in our picture inside the TARDIS clad in Tom Baker scarves! You do have to pay extra for this.
Next we moved on and saw the TARDIS console from the 5th Doctor onwards.  It looks so 80's!!

And that's where I leave you until we go upstairs for Part 2 of the Doctor Who experience!

Vworp, vworp, vworp!!!

  2. I'm glad you had a great time. I've never been a fan of Dr Who but I remember my two oldest daughters being fascinated by the Dr Who series. I think I was more interested in non fiction then and still now.

    Hugs, Julia

  3. What fun! The late lamented Peter Sallis was a scientist in an early series with the 2nd Dr. I wonder if he gets a mention in the exhibition?

    1. It is by no means comprehensive so there is only a selection of Monsters and enemies from Classic Who and not really any mention of all the actors who have played in the show's history so sadly, I doubt it.x

  6. I don't...I can't...so jealous! Your picture in the scarves is cute! Clara's cardigan is adorable and would be great on you. And wow- the Lego Dalek is amazing!
I would splurge for the goodie bag probably. I've wanted a Tardis key for awhile now and the shirts I have are from when I wasn't chubby.
I look forward to the next part! Geronimo!

  10. How wonderful. Tony got to go to this a few years ago with a friend for a birthday treat and they had the green screen photo done as well. I reckon you can't leave with it!
Lovely to see all the different consoles.
Love the idea of running from the angels!!!
