Decoupage and childish rockets

 Hello, one and all!

I hope all is well with you. I had a bit of a nightmarish start when I reached the station and discovered somebody had been hit by a train again and so there were awful delays meaning I reached school at 10.05am, having left home at 7.45!!! Oh dear.

Just a quick crafty post today.  Here's the last of my August card making.

Now, if you've heard of 3D Decoupage- the art of cutting out and piling up cut outs of the same image to give a 3D effect, then you'll recognise this.

However, I find that I don't do decoupage very much because:
a) I find it unbelievably faffy.
b) I am not the best at delicate cutting.
c) It feels a bit like cheating- all I am doing is cutting around pre-made pictures. I also feel like I am not being creative. I'm essentially assembling a box!
d) often it can feel expensive to buy ready-made sets of decoupaged images.

Anyway, I had a couple of sets of decoupaged images that came free with magazines over the years so I decided for once, to actually finish a decoupage.
This one is made of quality paper so it was a good freebie. Quite a cute traditional seaside scene.
You can see from the side, the piling up of the same image (often using a smaller element of the original image) with 3d pads.
This decoupage of the Kingfisher was a cheaper quality paper freebie and not so many layers but layering it on gingham card made it a bit more cheery.

The final one is actually on its side.
I saw a design for a rocket ship in a magazine (not an actual one to follow, just someone exhibiting a piece) and decided I could copy it to make my own template.  Using the funky foam, I made this decidedly ropey-looking rocket.  A fun cheerful boy card perhaps!

Have you made anything recently?  Do share if so!

xx

I'm off to bed!

  1. Hi Kezzie! I'm not much of a maker, but I did put together a challenging puzzle last week! I enjoyed each of your designs. Some little boy would love that rocket! Take care!

  2. I've never done any of that particular craft. Very nice! I like the 3D effect. And today you taught me a brand new word that I'd never, ever heard before!! FAFFY! What a cute term. "Girly." Love it :)

  3. I usually find this style to be somewhat cheesy and not to my taste, but yours are so well done they are gorgeous. Sorry for your rough commute.

  4. I like your new cards! I thought the same thing MK did, "What does faffy mean?"

  5. I loved the card! (The first one, I meant, though all are amazing!) It's because somehow it reminds me of Tenby. I think it's not cheating, dear Kezzie! Because you looked for all and cut and had the idea; cheating would be the easy way, just buying a card that is not personal! So sorry about the delays, and even more for the person who was hit... it's sad, but happens from time to time. Hope you have a nice weekend! XXX

  6. These are lovely! I've meant to try this, but always end up making flat collages (and not very well either).

  7. The gingham really sets off the kingfisher card. I'm impressed that you've got the patience to do this craft!! Jx

  8. I've tried this a few times but, like you, it feels a bit like cheating. I don't think I'd buy a pack but it's a shame not to use free ones if they come your way.
    I like the rocket :)
I need to make loads of cards for a craft fayre, I really should get a wriggle on!

  9. I've participated in one workshop where funky foam was one of the materials used to make bows and it made me want to try it myself. It seems so practical...now, about that rocket...it is absolutely gorgeous.

All of these cards are lovely...that one with the Kingfisher really caught my eye. I love birds! The first one is also really nice. I never tried this kind of decoupage...as far as I can see, the result comes out as very clean and polished but I can see why it makes you feel like you're not being creative enough. I think I would feel the same if I tried it.

I answered your question on my blog, but basically I don't travel by bus from Split to Mostar, I book a seat with this 'rent a van' agency that functions like a bus company but is much cheaper and picks you up where you want them to...they don't make any stops along the way and they usually take the highway which makes the journey a lot more comfortable and twice as shorter.

  10. I'm always really impressed with what other people make. I'm so useless at being neatly creative!

  11. Those are so sweet! Years ago my now ex-mother in law gave me a little one like that, framed, that she'd bought in a second hand shop. I suppose my ex husband still has it. I decoupaged a box once with flowers cut out of garden catalogue but haven't done any decoupage or collage in awhile. xoxo

  12. I agree about (a) the faff of decoupage and (b) the feeling of cheating!! I have a couple of freebie sets, which I've used a bit buit they're not really me. The rocket card is bold and fun though!

  13. I agree. I think they look very effective, but it can seem wasteful, the amount of pieces/pads used. They can be difficult/costly to post (really only worth it if sending with a present) because of the thickness and if pieces are to be cut out, it's REALLY fiddly. My Mum does decoupage sometimes, but tends to just use die-cut ones. I love the beachy one though, really cute.
