You can tell I had a mammoth card-making sesh over the holidays! It happens when you get several weeks in a row with new cards featuring!
Sometimes, you see a card idea that is JUST GENIUS! You think, "Yes, I must make that!" and then months, years in this case, pass by and you don't do anything about them.
That happened with the amazing biscuit card!
Papercraft Inspirations did this feature with some biscuit designs and I decided to give it a go. Rather than using the templates and tracing them (which would involve photocopying, locating tracing paper and then transferring, I decided to make them free-hand.This involved finding the suitable coloured papers-
- Custard cream and Jammy dodger come courtesy of a penpal letter envelope.
- Bourbon comes courtesy of the Aldeburgh festival guide-
- Pink Wafer biscuit comes courtesy of the craft stash.
I drew the shapes and then, on the back of them, I drew the designs (freehand) backwards.
Use an embossing tool (rather like an old biro that doesn't work anymore) and embossed all the designs.
Turned them over and in the case of the non-bourbon biscuits, used a white pencil to lightly draw over the lines and then went around the outside of them with a light brown/pink pencil to highlight them a bit more.
Annoyingly, I searched for my paper doilies which I wanted to 'serve' them on, to no avail (until yesterday-grr!) so I just stuck them to a textured lilac card-blank with 3d pads so they stuck out!
From one extreme to another, I was looking at the Daring Cardmakers link up from last week with the fruit theme and totally fell in love with Beckie's Clever design which made strawberries out of hearts and flowers. Immediately, I decided to make one! No, I couldn't wait!
To make my strawberries, I used my work-horse 'x-cut heart punch' to punch 9 hearts and used my dragonfly punch to create 9 green dragonflies
Embossing the strawberries, I layered them 3 atop each other to make the strawberries with one upside down dragonflies between each layer and stuck onto some gingham scraps,Simples!
This came about because I was looking at some honeycomb paper ice-creams on Louise's at Polka dots and freckle spots' blog and suddenly had a vision to make 3d looking ice-cream, so I punched about 6 circles in mint, strawberry and chocolate flavours and folded them in half and glued them down on top of another old envelope. Simple and sweet, I then took the scraps of gingham and scalloped them to make a frame.
SO easy to make (and cheap) but I'm quite proud of it!
So that's your Just desserts!
Any other ideas for sweet-based cards? I've made quilled boiled sweets before but I fancy making some more!
Linking up to Creative Mondays with Claire Justine!

These cards are all wonderful, but those with ice creams really took my breath way. Great work!!!

That biscuit card is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely that you made your biscuits out of old ephemera - so thrifty!
ReplyDeleteAren't you clever! The cards look great. My homemade cards don't extend much beyond cutting out an illustration from somewhere and sticking it on, adding a (usually cheeky) tag line... Old school, that's me! xxx
ReplyDeleteThese are such wonderful cards! x
ReplyDeleteThat biscuit card is so cute.

What fun! I think I like the ice creams best as I can make those - I don't have an embosser. I have made cup cake cards before now - cut out a cake case shape (trapezium?) and a semi circular cake piece. Then cut out a piece that looks like dribbly icing for the top, plus glittery sprinkles and a cherry on top! You can scallop edges of the cake case to look prettier, of course!
ReplyDeleteThey are all very nice, but the ice cream cones may be my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThey are all so cute! Pie? Cupcakes? Gumdrops?
ReplyDeleteI love the biscuit one! Though you missed my favourite - party rings!

You are so cleaver Kezzie. I can envision some colorful Autumn leaves in your card designs. I think you would have a lot of fun. I love the embossing technique. Very effective.
ReplyDeleteHave a superb Sunday.
Hugs,

The biscuit card is amazing, I love it!
ReplyDeletethanks for your comments:) I would have guessed that you would pick the second version of this outfit but I didn't know you prefered the river scenary. It is actually 5 minutes from my house but I often forget about this charming little spot....and to tell you the truth I felt more comfortable wearing a skirt over that dress because it is a bit short (but I guess it is ok for the Summer and anyway I did originally plan to wear it with tights/leggings that is as a tunics). I don't wear very short dresses often because then I always have to watch out how I sit, so I usually just match them with a thick pair of tights or leggings. How is the weather there? here it is unbelievably hot! summer is still in the air. How is the new school year progressing? can you believe that schools here still haven't advertized jobs and I know that a few teachers have retired....but I guess they hired someone without giving us a fair change of applying:(
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly my favourite collection of your cards to date! I can't imagine why... Xxx
ReplyDeleteI love them all, the strawberries made with dragonflies is inspired.
ReplyDeleteThey are all brilliant.
