South Africa- a day in town and a walk at Noordhoek beach

I apologise for the brief hiatus in service here on the blog, we went to the North Yorkshire Moors for Half Term and had no Wifi nor was there any sort of Data Connection!

I thought I would resume my South African accounts.  On the next day after we travelled to Cape Point, we went on the Big Red Tour Bus to Cape Town itself. We booked our tickets the night before and alas, I printed the wrong thing so we spent the whole journey into the city fretting whilst trying to connect to a non-existent Data connection on our phones to access the E-ticket.  Eventually we reached the end of the bus route and managed to print out ticket in the office.
We had a look around a covered art market and ended up buying some really tasty samosas in the hippy food market! I failed to take any photos!
We hoped to visit Robben Island but it was booked up for the whole of December and January so alas, we weren't able to go.  The queues for the other tour buses were horrendous with 1.5 hours wait so we decided to walk instead to explore town.
After stopping for some lunch, we walked for a mile or so in the hot sun (not worth it!) to reach the Pan African Market which I failed to take photos in!  It is a great place where you can buy arts and crafts and handmade items from all over Africa.  We ended up buying a few items in there!
A brief trip into the Cathedral was a really welcome respite from the unrelenting heat.

Next, we headed into the Rhodes Gardens for another sit down.

Next, we headed into the Africa Museum which was rather a Natural history museum. It was quite interesting but looked a little tired.
We couldn't believe the size of a whale!

Oh, so many comedy moments!

We caught the final bus back to Kirstenbosch where our friend met us. We went back to rest for a few hours.

Later on, we decided to drive to Noordhoek beach to walk the dog.
It was absolutely glorious there but the sea is bitterly cold.  On one side of the Cape, the sea is really warm but on this side, it is freezing.  It's something to do with some sort of  gulf stream or current that runs in the water on the other side.
We trailed along for a long time and watched a myriad dogs enjoy the expansive beaches..

It was a fittingly tranquil end to what was a largely hot and active day.

I apologise for my accompanying words being brief but I think sometimes I write too much!

Hope you are well.
xx

  1. I'm happy you decided to continue with your posts about South Africa because I do enjoy these. It seems you had such a lovely time there. It is wonderful you bought some traditional African souvenirs there.

That African museum looks like a wonderful place to visit. I'm sure that it is a very educational place. I love visiting museums.

  2. Like Ivana I'm enjoying reading about your travels. I don't think you write too much - it's always nice to hear bloggers' "voices". Are you going to show us some of the things you bought? Did you buy any brooches?!

Love your man's shirt and those blue skies. It's mild but very grey and overcast here. xxx

  6. Dear Kezzie, you don't write too much, I like to know about your trips! Loved to see the pictures of South Africa, the beach, to kow about the ocean - I have the experience with the South Atlantic, it's freeeeezing. The heat and walking doesn't match :) I am glad you could print the right tickets later, and I would have loved to go to the Pan African market! It's good to be without wifi for some time, these days are so strange - we feel a bit lost without it, but it's good for a detox! Hope you have a great weekend, dear Kezzie! Hugs!

Love your stories for their honesty: the heat, the long slog of a walk, printing the wrong tickets. Your adventures sound real. Great writing. I enjoy your travel journal so much. Thank you. Karen

  8. I love reading your travel posts, Kezzie, and this was no exception. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a cathedral like this in South Africa, so that was quite a surprise. The museum looks like it was fun. But most of all, I loved your Noordhoek (almost a Flemish word, that: we have a Westhoek here!) beach photos. xxx

  10. What a stunning beach - the colours are divine. I remember the heat being such a drain on my energy when I was there, I was useless until it started to cool down a bit.
I'd love to see what you purchased in the Pan African Market :)

  11. Not a bad spot for a bit of dog walking!
Love the photo of CBC in the jaws of that creature.
You certainly crammed as much into each day as you could,
