Brighton Belles

Brighton is a place that I never seem to explore fully. My visits there have always been frustratingly fleeting and I am compelled to leave prematurely, before I have really had the chance to feel I have explored it fully.

That said, even on a superficial, brief level, I never fail to be impressed with it. That marriage of old and traditional and new and achingly hip.

Spending the 1st Saturday in September there after a wedding, I had a little chance to see around but once again, hometime came too early and I felt I have yet to scratch the surface.
The day showed favourable weather conditions and the sea looked inviting.

Despite their aggressive tactics and bold arrogance, one even swooped down onto my phone, I am always entranced and delighted by the seagulls as they weave a hasty path around the skies.

From the pier of old, imagining the fashionable folk promenading in their finery, you could see the town with its new development.
 Overlooked by those hook-beaked overlords.

I could watch them for hours.
The view of this seagull's behind made me laugh!
As did the moment I caught a seagull ambushing another.
I was determined to get up close to this fellow who kept edging along his pole away from me.
Until he fixed me with his beady, cold eye and aloofly realised I was not going away and flew off.
The beach ran amok with them

On our way to meet Katie, we passed the beautiful Pavilion which had captured my heart the first time I visited over a decade ago.
Until we found ourselves in the hip part of town with street art galore...

 and even a Banksy!
Our last view, after a Tea and Cake Time with Katie, we headed homewards along this pretty, pastel street to the station to pick up our car from Lewes. By the way, I recommend parking at Lewes station and getting the train into Brighton rather than hunting for parking futilely!

Have you been?
xx

  2. Those murals are awesome (especially the one with all the dogs) - they really remind me of the street art in Reykjavik.

  6. Seagulls are fun to watch. And, due to their interactions with humans, they can be quite brave around us. The colorful street-art reminds me of Detroit. Similar vibe.

  9. Dear Kezzie, Brighton is on my list for some years, and now, seeing it here, even more - to see places through your photos is always great! I would love to imagine how it was in the 19th century... I bet it was wonderful! It must be wonderful now, as well, I am happy that you could spend some time there! The seagull, yes, how aggressive, to fly over your mobile! Beautiful photos and description, Kezzie! I hope you have a very nice day!

  10. Oh! I want to visit Brighton. Betty the Wood Fairy sent me a stick of Brighton Rock and I bit into it greedily and then one of my crowns fell out! Yikes!

  11. I seem to see Brighton and the Pier on tv crime (I love crime!) - George Gently and his offsider (eating ice cream) or maybe Vera... it looks a fascinating place, the street art is fabulous! Thanks for taking me along (without any crime!) xx

  12. Beautiful photos here Kezzie, those seagulls are so cheeky! I've got a soft spot for them as I love to watch them fly about and the silhouettes they create as they soar overhead is always really cool to see. Love that shade of blue on the sea too and of course the street art - I do love me some street art! I've finally got around to responding to your letter so I'll be sending it out very, very soon - I promise! - Tasha

  17. They can be a pain when you've got food but I do love seagulls.
Brighton is a vibrant place, you definitely need to go back again for longer.

  18. I've always wanted so much to see Brighton and walk on that fabulous pier. It's in so many movies and shows (like Poirot, etc.) that I love. So glad you got a day there! I'm amazed at all the big, colorful graffiti. The "British shows" I watch never quite seem to show that side of life there - haha!
