There is no beauty to compare to the sight of a dell of bluebells. One of the greatest treasures of Spring.
One of my favourite books, I capture the Castle was adapted for TV and I always remember the line. "Do you smell Bluebells, Rose?"
"I smell heaven!"
And today, for the first time, my mother and I smelt that scent- who could not, surrounded by all these exquisite flowers!
They stretched in all directions- beautiful proud, yet humble simultaneously.
The carpet of blue is just astounding and I felt it was such a privilege to be there to see them. Only the 3rd time in my adult life I have seen such a sight.
There may be a massive collection of photos here but each flower deserves its chance to shine, to be appreciated, to be swooned over and to enrapture your day.
Up close, you see their delicate beauty- that exquisite bell shape- a soft ringing in silence.
And collectively, a carpet of blue fit for a king.
Enjoy the rest, without my wittering. There is nowhere else in the world that has our English Bluebells and we must protect them.
I love bluebells! I have them in my garden but it's been a while since they blossomed and now I don't have any. They blossomed this March (if I rememember well) and you funny thing is that I got some when I went to visit my husband's cuisin that lives on the hill a few weeks ago. She picked up some flowers for me and I said she needn't bother because I have them, but then she said she knows I can't very well have them because their season is well past in Mostar (only on the hills they still blossom). So, I had to take them:) Anyway, I can imagine how delightful it must be to find them in nature. Here they are not native (as far as I know), so the only one we come across are those we plan ourselves.
ReplyDeleteHas ever a flower smelled so heavely? I do like their fragrance and I like to keep them in vases for that purpuse.
I can imagine you and your mother really enjoyed that walk! It is lovely to spend time in nature at this time of year. Yesterday I was in Split and the weather was wonderful, the sea looked most invinting but I think I will wait a bit more before I take that first swim ( I have a bad cold at the moment).
To answer your question, my wedding dress was in what they often call Roman/Grecian style, very simple and one of the most comfortable dresses I ever wore. It had a bit of bronze flowery detail on the waist, apart from that there were no decorations. I still have it and I plan to take photos in it some day (when my husband has some free time to take them). I remember how you said you were able to buy your dream wedding dress because you waited for it and found it some time after you had first seen it. That must have been great!
Beautiful pictures. Heavenly scent. I was lucky enough to grow up with a (small) bluebell wood. I must try and find photos of it. It was just the most fun place to be as a child.

Hope you are having a great weekend.
All the best Jan
SO many of them, wow! There are a few in my local park and I just love them. x
ReplyDeleteBluebells are one of my favourite flowers. And I LOVE I Capture the Castle, it's one of my favourite books too. I have been to Manorbier Castle in Pembrokeshire, where part of the 2003 film adaptation was filmed. xxx
ReplyDeleteI've never read I Capture the Castle but it is on my wish list so I will one day!
ReplyDeleteI walked over to the bluebell wood here this morning, they definitely are something to treasure!
It was magical and now you know the difference between our beautiful fragrant native English bluebell and the Spanish invader which has no scent at all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Bluebells are such a lovely Springtime treat. I posted about my last Photo An Hour day today and that also included a lot of bluebells!

Distract Me Now Please
Everyone seems to have been appreciating the bluebells! I do love the flowers at this time of year. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! What a perfect shade of blue they are. I wish I could smell them.
ReplyDeleteThe carept effect is captivating and wow. In close they are a bit froo froo for me, even for a flower. Next time perhaps include the smell, like a scratch n sniff.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI only read I Capture the Castle for the first time recently.
Such memories being revisited and created.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they had a scent.
Love the post title...so true!

How I love bluebells, the river walk is awash with them xxx
ReplyDeleteWonderful such a display of bluebells. Over the last few years we have had made a pledge to walk among the bluebells at least once a year when they are flowering. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! It must have been so lovely in person! I need to see if there are any bluebell fields near me so I can go and explore one day :) Also, my nail varnishes arrived! I've tried using them but I need more practice haha, thank you so much! :) xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Where did you go to find these treasures. I visited Hanningfield reservoir earlier in the month and the sight was just breathtaking, and the smell well I know I don't need to tell you x x
