It's been a while since I've been out on a forest walk and thus, been able to hunt fungi to ogle at!
We went for a walk in Shoreham in Kent and I spied a few examples as we were walking.
Alas, there was a HUGE mass of white fluffy fungus on the other side of the river which I couldn't get to to look at! I wonder what it was.
These were all minute examples on a fallen log. I wasn't sure what type they might be. Do you have any ideas?
Ah... are they an early form of some sort of Turkey Fantail fungus? Hmmmm, not sure!
These look more like a form of Turkey Fantail fungus but older.
Oooooh, got a bit excited as I think we have some Jelly ears or Wood ears!
Annoyingly they were on a diagonal tree on a very steep bit of ground at the end of someone's property!
How close could I get? The light was most frustrating!
Ear, ear!
My sister spotted this collection further up but they were on the underside of that diagonal tree so there was no way I could see inside the 'ears' no matter how much I contorted myself whilst trying not to fall down the slope!
Aha, I think I spy a tinder hoof fungus- I think they were used to transport smouldering ashes!
Alas, that was all I saw that day but it did remind me that I have a few photos of some fungi from my trip to Suffolk back at half term!

Jelly ears don't look like anything I've ever seen before. All of your fungi are fascinating!

ReplyDeleteSome of those fungi look like they have a mouth and some kind of tongue. It must be pretty mild to be hunting for fungi in winter. Thanks for sharing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this since I like photographing fungi, too! I've never seen anything like those "ears"!! Maybe those first ones are some sort of lichen.
