Hello there friends!
Greetings and welcome, intreprid traveller*! Thank you for sojourning to my humble abode. I hope you are well.
A pretty unoriginal post today. I'm sharing an outfit I quite liked with some ramble to accompany.
Last Friday, I decided to pair this Portuguese-inspired skirt from Joanie Clothing with a rather ancient top from Oasis and I quite like how they go together- they sort of work!
The skirt is beautifully soft and light for a warm Summer's day and it was most suitable for the weather that day. Not much else to say about it.
Today was the last day of school for all of our returning pupils from Reception, Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6. Us lucky teachers who are responsible for the Key Worker bubble are continuing till Friday and then we have an INSET day on Monday.
I worked in a different bubble today- the younger keyworker bubble, to cover a member of staff who was away and I kept it fairly relaxed and rather impromptu rather than sticking to the plans which frankly, were bare bones that I didn't really have a clue of what to do with! I got them to use squared paper to draw and write their own wordsearches, we did some research and watching of some fascinating animals and then in the afternoon, we did a Science/Maths lesson which involved dictation of figures into a table regarding classification and features of fictional alien species. It was a lesson to help them get used to negotiating, filling it and interpreting information into larger, more complex tables. They then had to look at 'conclusions' which I had drawn up, one by one and state whether the conclusion was true, false or we didn't have enough evidence to draw a proper conclusion, justifying it with reasons. Considering most of them are year 1, I was super impressed by how well they did! They seemed to really enjoy it too. If anyone would like my resources and explanation for how to do the lesson, then let me know, I will gladly share it. It can be done with any age- I've done a similar version of it with 10 year olds.
The Year 6 children, who were in school, came to see me at a distance to say goodbye and I was SO sad to see them going. This has been our nicest Year 6 cohort for a long time and I was really looking forward to teaching them all the music lessons this year so I must say I was gutted that I haven't been able to see them. I feel so gutted that they haven't been able to perform their Summer concert- the orchestra were sounding really good playing Havana (an arrangement I did specially for them) and The National Anthem. They were so sweet coming to say goodbye and 2 boys (including one who has been considered a bit of a problem at times by some teachers) cried their hearts out as I gave them my goodbye 'go forth and be musical' speech which made my heart melt. All the children said they'd miss me and would visit when they could. Sad, sad times. When I remember how difficult and problematic last year's cohort were, I am gutted that they were robbed of their last term of school.
I was given 3 presents by three pupils including such beautiful cards and a gorgeous poem which I will share here:
Music is the ocean
That pulls me to the shore,
Music is the rhythm
That moves me to the core.
Music is the therapy
I need when I feel blue.
Music lifts my spirits
To make sure I pull through.
The times when I'm most happy
It's clear music was there.
Music is the needed friend
When no one seems to care.
What a gorgeous poem!
I pray to God that they will not suffer through the happenings of this year and continue contented and successful in their lives.
Sending you hugs and best wishes today.
xx
*Well, maybe intrepid stay-at-homer...
The skirt goes so well with your top. They look like they were made for each other.
ReplyDeleteSaying goodbye is never easy. I'm sorry it had been such a disruptive year for you and your students. I'm sure they will miss you terribly.
What a sweet poem. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs, Julia
A very pretty combination. Your Year 6 sound really sweet. I remember when my daughter left Year 6. I think she felt the same about some of her teachers. It's quite an emotional time for them moving up to secondary school.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous outfit, Kezzie. Fabulous pattern-mixing as well. That skirt is magnificent and the top is super cute. A perfect pick-me-up for the intrepid stay-at-homer! Saying goodbye to Year 6 must have been particularly bittersweet. That pupil's poem actually brought a little tear to my eye! xxx
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt, what a lovely thing it is. The shed behind you makes for a perfect backdrop. xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely poem. It's so sad to think so many children will miss out on the last precious weeks of primary school, and high school. I can't help but think the 'leavers' have missed a rite of passage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely skirt, I adore the colour, I like it paired with the patterned top, if it were me I'd jut wear it with a navy jumper.. :)
xx
It's tough to do your job in these odd times. Cute skirt!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely top and skirt outfit, Kezzie. I love that skirt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty poem!
Finally catching up with you dear friend, it was heartwarming to see your beautiful smiling face, you have lifted my spirits today. This week has been quite hard and I have felt 'lost' and discombobulated. Despite this I did manage to put up a blog post and share some pictures of the past few weeks.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lovely gal and a very dedicated teacher and all those kind and loving words were so well deserved. I hope that you are now able to get some much needed rest and that you make a good start by having a good weekend. Sending much love to you as always xxxx
So nice you managed to improvise a nice lesson for the kids. My annual leave has started so I'm just chilling for now.
ReplyDeleteI really like your outfit. The blouse is so pretty and I do like that skirt. I adore the folkloric touches.
I actually thought the top and skirt were attached at first - I think they work really well together!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how hard it is to be a teacher now. I'm glad you at least got to say a distanced goodbye to your students. It is really disappointing that the concert couldn't happen though! I really am sad about all these missed experiences due to the pandemic. It could certainly be worse (could be sick, not have a job, etc), but I do feel like we're almost losing time. I just try to use my time differently and spend it on things that I *can* still do, but it's not quite the same.
That poem is really sweet and well-written. I'm impressed! You have some talented students, Kezzie, and I'm sure they're happy to have you as a teacher :)
