I confess that I would always prefer going to a restaurant for something savoury rather than Afternoon Tea. Whilst I quite like Afternoon Tea, I prefer to have something savoury- the sandwiches are always my favourite part of the tea! Hazel has mentioned a Savoury Afternoon tea she had or heard about and I confess, that this does sound right up my street!
This neatly segues me into the remainder of this post. Back on the Saturday of Half Term, CBC and I were invited out to a 30th Birthday celebration. The first part was Afternoon Tea at Clarence Yard in Southend-on-Sea. It cost a reasonably £19.99 for the two of us.
You can see me with the tea, minus a few sandwiches which we had already eaten. I enjoyed the sandiwiches and liked the three cakes I grabbed before CBC had a chance to make his own choice. I had the two chocolate ones and the mini cream eclair. The part I least enjoy is always the Scones and Jam- something always makes me feel a bit queasy about it. I only managed to eat half a scone- this one had orange peel in it which I found hard-going! Sorry, I am a bit fussy when it comes to sweet food!
For this occasion, I took another chance to wear my Easter Sunday dress from Bernie Dexter before Cherry Blossom seems 'out of season'. I adore this dress.
It is so comfy and I teamed it with my Irregular Choice floral pumps, plus a Smile and Make necklace, a bracelet my Mum regifted to me and some cute bunny earrings a lovely Australian cosplayer sent to me when she shipped me a dress I wanted to buy from Australia!
Since these photos were taken, the Purple Toadflax behind me to the left has flowered beautifully and the Lavender is almost reaching its zenith. The Jasmine is flowering as is the Passiflora!
I do hope you are well.
P.S. Thank you all so much for your kind words on my last post.

You look so pretty in your frock! I'm not a fan of sweet things like cake, I'm more of a beer and curry kind of girl! xxx
ReplyDeleteI prefer eating scones with a dab of butter and smear of jam and I don't care for the sweets. Occasionally I'll eat a small piece of sweet as long as it's not too sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour floral dress looks so pretty. Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Julia
Lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteI'm not an afternoon tea fan, I much prefer a decent comfort food dinner in a nice restaurant!
I'm more of a savoury girl too, but I'd gladly make exception for afternoon tea! Your dress is utterly gorgeous! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely tea! I only do a fancy tea once a year - they are too rich for me!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress - wow, what a showstopper, Kezzie!
I love afternoon tea. If it wasn't for the calories I would gladly have one each week.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I never say no to cake. I love scones with plenty of jam and clotted cream, yum!
I like afternoon tea but would prefer to have a full meal. Some afternoon teas are amazing. Lovely dress.
ReplyDeleteDue to being gluten-free and dairy-free, I rarely get to have an afternoon tea out... but I hear they exist! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, spring-y dress!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know toadflax came in colors other than yellow. Mine is starting to bloom now!
I love afternoon tea. Several girlfriends turned me on to them. You look lovely in this pretty outfit.
ReplyDeleteAfternoon tea is a real treat. I'm quite fussy about cakes too even though I love the idea of cake. Anything with dark chocolate or nuts is a travesty. Love this gorgeous dress xx
ReplyDeleteI'm the opposite, love scones, sandwiches are my least favourite part of an afternoon tea (actually likely to be left as I wouldn't like what was on them). I probably prefer an afternoon tea over a meal...or we had a high tea for my sister's 40th and that was great because it was the main course then cakes! It suited the kids too.
ReplyDeleteI love both Afternoon Tea and a meal out, anything that means I don't have to prepare food myself gets a thumbs up from me!
ReplyDelete£19.99 is very reasonable and it looks like you had plenty to share. I did chuckle at your snaffling of the cake you like before CBC got a look in, I'd do that too! I like scones, but the whole 'should the cream or jam go first' thing makes me roll my eyes - just eat it!
I can see why you like the dress so much, it's utterly divine!
xx
Mmm, I would like some scones with jam now (orange marmalade too!), but we haven't been to any sort of afternoon tea in several years. I'm thinking I shall bake some scones and make a little tea party of it with my daughter. Heh, thanks for that inspirational activity ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, your dress is gorgeous! Perfect for the occasion!
what a pretty outfit you have on. I love tea but we don't have afternoon tea experience here, I mean not like in England.
ReplyDeleteI love an afternoon tea. I like scones as long as they're done well - some can be a bit dry. The sandwiches are usually my least favourite part to be honest. White bread with the crusts cut off and the exposed edges going dry! And then filled with something yucky like egg and cress. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty dress! It reminds me of a Monet painting. We don't exactly "do" afternoon tea over here, as you do there. We may eat something fun in mid/late afternoon, but unless we go to some fancy place that deliberately imitates an English afternoon tea, we don't get finger sandwiches and tea cakes and scones.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I prefer savory foods to sweet ones, and this preference has grown stronger as I age. I'm kind of "over" sweets! (Except chocolate, of course.)
I've never had afternoon tea... I've never seen one that looks appealing to me! I'd rather just have a cup of tea, a big piece of a cake and a proper, whole sandwich! That's a lovely photo of you :)
