In training

This weekend I am off to the Aldeburgh Music Festival in Suffolk.  When many of my blogging friends are jetting off to pop, rock and the such-like music festivals, I am off to a 'Classical' music festival. I hate using the word classical as it is a misnomer since Classical music is a specific period (1780-1820 FYI) but since it is the word that denotes 'Western art music' or 'non-pop' I will use it!

We are going to watch a variety of music including a World-fusion concert involving a German Ooompah band, African Kora, a poet and others at the Pumphouse and then tomorrow, watching a concert of music inspired by Bali including Benjamin Britten's only full length ballet, Prince of the Pagodas and most excitingly for me Tabuh Tabuhan by Colin McPhee- he studied Gamelan in Bali for a long time and I LONG to play this piece! Before the concert we are watching a school project version of the Britten piece.

We're camping in Saxmunden and hoping to have some seaside fun!
Hurrah
Gotta love my Cath Kidston train dress- I find her dresses great for this warm weather though I had to add Wellies last week as it was raining!
Hope all is well with you!

  6. The train dress and your sweet boots are so beautiful! I love polka dot, red and Cath Kidston! You look so sweet and beautiful! I would love to go to this festival, too, especially now that I am at Music college, and good to know about that - and the classical music period! But yes, that's what people (and myself) call non-pop music or to some, "boring music". I mean, I don't travel tastes, but as for me, I think it's all but boring - I travel to places and eras that I would love to be, when I hear classical music! Enjoy it and please tell us readers and friends how it was!

  8. Loving the dress and wellie combo! Sums up the great British summer completely! I love Aldeburgh. An old stamping ground for me as my Dad's side of the family come from Suffolk and many a lovely holiday was spend in Southwold. Happy days. So jealous you're going to the festival there. Enjoy.

  11. That's an adorable dress!! Hope you have a grand time at your music concert. I also used to sigh when all music-non-modern was lumped into one label: "classical." But what can you do?
