TARDIS Tuesday does the Sound of Music!

Howdy there folks!

Technically, this will end up as TARDIS Wednesday but how sadly unalliterative!

Sometimes, I will put an outfit on and know it looks horrible! This morning, I knew that today's TARDIS Tuesday wouldn't win me any style/fashion prizes but I always carry something through to its conclusion.  CBC took one look and me and said, "You are going to wear THAT???"

At school, I was told I looked like I was wearing an Austrian traditional costume (Dirndl, I presume they were implying!). Presumably I resembled a horrid curtain-bedecked runaway extra from the Sound of Music.

Not my finest hour.

"But..." you gasp, "What does this have to do with Doctor Who????"

Come closer and I shall tell you.
Let's adopt a snooty pose?  Familiar?
No, ok, then I'll explain.

The Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, was my inspiration  for today.  He was in fact my TARDIS Tuesady inspiration a while back where I debuted my Ang-Almond customised Question mark shirt. His lurid coat has always made me think of my Vintage Madras-checked dress with its rainbow of colours and the checks and the crossover neckline reminding me of a waistcoat.   If it was cooler, I'd have added the aforementioned shirt underneath but it being too hot, I added a pussy bow blouse instead which is a nod to the bow tied at his shirt neck.

The best part of this outfit is one you can only notice close up.   Colin Baker always wore a cat brooch on his lapel. In fact, these were his own, not the costume department and was his own eccentric addition to the outfit. He had several.
In my recent experiments with shrink plastic celery brooches, I also made a white cat brooch as my second attempt. I was quite pleased with it- it's quite plump!

The final touch was adding these red polka dot ballet pumps from Primark. I've had them ten years and I adore them- I'll be gutted when they finally die.  They are a nod to the polka dot necktie as he did sport a red spotty necktie in later episodes.

Outfit details:
Madras check dress: M&S via Charity shop
Unironed pussybow blouse: French Connection via Charity shop.
Shoes: Primark 10 years ago.
Cat brooch: made by me.
Earrings: Cath Kidston

So...over to you.
Are you sporting some cobalt (obvs called TARDIS blue), do you have a cat brooch or feel like attaching celery to your bosom?  Fancy doodling question marks over your vest or wearing a Clara Oswaldesque Topshop dress?  Then this is the link for you...

TARDIS Tuesday with a little help from my (blog) friends

Hello there!
I am assuming temporary host babysitting duties over TARDIS Tuesday for the month as Maricel is away on holiday. I was going to have a rest but felt a bit sad at the prospect (particularly as I will be away in August so may not be able to participate!)  Luckily, Maricel said she'd continue to create the linkies for me!
Check out my blooming veggies!

Today's TARDIS Tuesday outfit comes with a little help from my lovely blog friend, Melanie over at The Folly Bird (who is rocking the most AMAZING ice-cream skirt and pretty red outfit today!)

She recently sent me a delightful parcel of some gifts she thought I would like! I was utterly delighted and really touched.

Gifts from Melanie
Look at all these beautiful crafty bits! I can't wait to use them (except things like this are always too nice to use!!!!!)  They are wonderful and I will TRY to make myself use them!

And the link to TARDIS Tuesday?

Melanie sent me a cute TARDIS keyring which I saw instantly had a small jump ring which said "NECKLACE" to me. My year 2's loved it! Set against a background of TARDISish blue stripes, the windows almost looked glowing!!!

There was a decidedly pirate edge to this outfit!

Thank you to my lovely friend Melanie (who I accidently left a comment telling that I was waiting at the station and she should call to let me know when she'd arrived, thinking I was texting my husband rather than phone commenting on a blog!!!!!) for her lovely gifts.

So over to you, share your WHO-blue outfits, your fez fashion, your beautiful bow (tie), your TARDIS dress (ahem Kat!), your question mark tanktop or ode to Bonnie Langford- the choice is yours.
Come and link up with TARDIS Tuesday!  In a few hours!

Tiles

TARDIS Tuesday comes round again (I hope) and I decided to be a bit sneaky and creative with my outfit.  I was aiming for recreating this Clara outfit from The Caretaker (and all the publicity shots from Series 8).  The dress is very cute with its print and its style and the material reminded me of this dress I had from Appletree boutique with a horseprint on it.

Ok, so the print is wrong- but the general ilk of the dress is on. And if you are wondering why this is sneaky? Well, I wore this dress (and boots and leggings) last TARDIS Tuesday- but I wore the buttons all done up, cardie over the top, concealing the belt.

What did you think of the Doctor Who Christmas Special?  I really enjoyed it because I love anything linked to a paradox (dream within a dream and all that). I loved all the Nick Frost Santa parts and all the banter between characters. I was highly amused by Clara's nightshirt. Where on earth did she get a full length cotton floral nightie like that- NOT what I would imagine would be Clara Oswin nightwear (just realised how incredibly sad that makes me sound- honestly, that's the first time I'd considered what Clara might wear to sleep in!). I'm not sure how I feel about Danny Pink being back. I liked him but I wasn't convinced by the whole Clara and Danny story- perhaps because I never saw it evolve on screen really- he wasn't really on enough for that.  On the whole though, I thought there was a good mix of scary, funny, poignant and crazy.

Oh and I received a really exciting present for a future TARDIS Tuesday. Really looking forward to sharing that!

So linking up to TARDIS Tuesday!

Jon Pertwee- Style inspiration

It seemed about time for another Who-spiration post!!!! Thus, here I am!

Jon Pertwee, the most suave and gentleman-like of all the doctors, was known as the Dandy Doctor due to his assortment of gentleman-like costumes,
Quoting the first Doctor, describing the second and third doctors:
"A dandy and a clown!"
He always had plush jackets, beautifully tailored shirts with ruffles and cravats or bowties in tasteful colour combinations.  I borrowed the collage from Mel at The Follybird, whose link and idea this was, in which you can see an assortment that I would gladly wear:
Fabrics seem thick- velvet, a particular favourite and of course, a cape! The trousers, by comparison, seem very plain and your eye is not really drawn to them.

I paid most homage to the outfit in the middle 2 images of the bottom row, where he sports a sort of olive-velvet jacket.

Everything, except the boots (not really visible) was thrifted over the years from various charity-shops.  The cordhuroy blazer and trousers originally Per Una at M&S and the frilly-shirt from Laura Ashley.

The jacket colour is pretty-much spot on though not really clear from this photo. I'd love a shirt with ruffly sleeves like his!

To add another layer of warmth I added my Wind-up bird cape (present from CBC) and added a tweed trilby from Primark (yeh, you haven't seen this hat before.  Keep quiet, let's not draw attention to another new hat)
Jon Pertwee Ruffles
Here's the Laura Ashley shirt a bit closer (sorry, it was creased after a day of school and of course, I wore a cardie underneath in this weather! I can't wait to iron this one. What a right pain it will be (that'll mean it shall lie dormant on my spare-bed for months)

I'd like to try another Jon Pertwee outfit at a later date, I have more ideas, but what do you rckon?  If you were to put together an outfit inspired by him with your current wardrobe, what would you wear???
