Style Imitating Art Outfit - Bow Sweater

This week, for Style Imitating Art, Salazar chose a piece of knitwear for the inspiration:

Elsa Schiaparelli’s sweater

As soon as I saw this, it reminded me of a sweater from Joanie Clothing from a previous collection.

It also reminded me of the Cashmere sweater I wore on Christmas day.

Alas, I had put away the sweater for summer into my big yellow suitcase so it wasn't an option for my outfit this time but I thought I could very easily make an outfit out of something else.
And here it is:
I decided to go entirely monochrome.

I started with this black top with a crochet Peterpan collar from Peacocks which I think I've had since about 2010 for obvious reasons because of its black top with white collar link.

On my bottom half, I decided to add my Kew Broderie Anglaise skirt (£1 from the Clearance Charity shop warehouse) to stick to a mainly black outfit.

Because it wasn't the warmest day, I added a charity-shopped Peacocks cardigan

The final elements were my earrings which I bought from a Church Christmas fair at Ilford Hospital Chapel about 15 years ago- I'm not sure what they are made out of but they have a lovely lustre.
In terms of shoes, I decided to wear my Bleyer dance shoes which I wear for Swing Dancing as the style is a nice vintage style to complete the look

I had a look through my phone and I found only this picture from Christmas, featuring my Cashmere sweater with a bow!

If you fancy seeing how everyone else interpreted it, head over to Salazar's blog on Wednesday evening to see the roundup!

I'm an extra in the next Tim Burton movie...

Monochrome collage
Since Share in Style this week is celebrating Black and White with Mis Papelicos, I donned this ensemble on Sunday for my niece's 5th birthday.  CBC's words upon seeing it were something along the lines of, "So are you auditioning for the next Tim Burton movie?".  Ha, rude boy!! I get what he means though!

My Mum and I sneaked upstairs at the party to take these. Sadly, her emailed photos from the iPhone were all weird and small and fuzzy so I couldn't get them any bigger but the weird shadowy quality contributes to the sinister Burtonesque feel!

I donned this Tu at Sainsbury's dress along with a cotton polo-neck, Alex Munroe bee necklace, black patterned tights and Clarks black patent shoes and it is a really comfortable ensemble.

No jokes or pervy comments about this one, there's just some leg on show,  but my Mum said it was funny, the pre-shoot "MUM, not yet!" shot, and I should post it!

Not much to say today.  The party was great fun, I enjoyed it and it was unusual that I had both sides of my family together parents and step-parents and step-grandparents, niece, sisters both, plus CBC.  It was super to be able to meet up and celebrate the occasion together.

Alas, back to school tomorrow- I've been on the go all weekend, so feels a bit too premature to be returning....

Blessings to all.

xx
Lizzie- Mmmm, I am with you on the milkshake thing- but TOO much milkshake? Seriously? I liked your opinions on Doctor Who too.  Wish I could comment on your blog but it's the Google+ thing!

Monochrome Maldon

Finally managed to remember (and have suitable items) to join in with the Two birds inspiration Monday. This is Maria Menounos sporting a summery look. I liked this and thought it manageable though none of my white skirts were the right type so I opted for the old 'dress as skirt' trick adding a top.  Meant I didn't flash my midriff but I think we're all glad about that! Less is more.  Oh and of course, hat is necessary on such a hot day!

Aye aye cap'n!

Despite the fact we have the dreaded R word to finish, CBC and I decided to go for a short trip out to stop ourselves going totally insane!  We headed off to Maldon, the lovely fishing town on the river Blackwater, where they make the famous salt flakes! CBC would like to live here. I am a little more practical thinking that it would be REALLY hard to get to work from here (as I don't drive). The train stations are miles and miles away.

It was a gorgeous day and if you had kids, this was the place for you (and it was too)- there are so many lovely facilities for families on a hot day- sprinklers park, pirate-ship climbing activity centre, remote-controlled boat lake, more climbing frames, fields, sand-pits and more.  We enjoyed it too and had a Rossi-ice-cream walking along the very-depleted looking river admiring the naval craft. I almost wish I'd gone with a sailor dress.

We had a jolly meander along the side of the Blackwater. I went on a sailing holiday at the age of around 5-6 sailing from here. I remember little about it except the boat was called the 'Silanight'

CBC on the boat

There are many boats, but sadly, The Hydrogen, the cafe boat we visited last time we were here (see February/January blogspots), was out on a dinner day trip so we couldn't stop for tea.

Definitely have to head back here soon with more time. I want to visit Truly Scrumptious  a lovely vintage tea-room that has antique shop and vintage clothing shop in the attic. Under the premise of going to the bathroom, your husband may just not notice you bought a 50's dress!!!

Hope you are all well.

Hat Peter

Annie's wedding day Hello there mes amies! How nice it is to be on holiday! We've done lots of weddingy things so far and seen some friends. I've been swingdancing 3 times in a 30 hour period. We went to the Kursaal in Southend again which was super fun and then had a dance lesson with Simon and finally, I went to London for a lindy class last night! Was really good apart from getting accidently headbutted in the front teeth by someone dancing as I turned round!! In fact, yesterday was an absurdly busy day. We left CBC's house at 7.30am to get to a dance lesson in West London for 9am. We then came home and went straight to Marriage prep class for 2 hours. A quick half an hour for lunch and then CBC dropped me off at my work colleague's wedding ceremony. Next, I jumped on a bus into town to pick up a parcel and buy some YSL Touche Eclat. Finally, I came home, got changed and headed into London for a 3 hour Lindy class!! On my way home, I popped into Tescos for some shopping and then it was almost midnight!!! The photo above is what I wore to my colleague's wedding. I didn't have time to change after the marriage prep so I had to wear this and just added a hat and heels to try and smarten it up a bit. The dress has a cute Peter Pan collar and I found it in St Francis hospice. It's a little more monochrome than I would ever usually wear to a wedding. Actually, I was wearing a bright pink straw hat originally, but my Deputy Head has borrowed it to wear for my wedding as it goes perfectly with her cardigan so I returned hatless and put this one on instead! Perhaps it would have been more suitable in terms of matching? I was THE ONLY person with a hat on!! SHOCKING! It's soo soo hard to believe that this time in 2 weeks, I am going to be married. It's only 9 days until the wedding now. SOOOO many things to do still but I'm sure we will get them done! I do hope things are well with you and please forgive me for my lack of posting and not being able to comment loads! Too many distractions! lots of love, Kezzie xx

Checkmate and Ruby-slipper reminiscences

Dress:  Kush, Heart-shaped fascinator: ASOS, Bag: gift from Sophie, Shoes: Asda
Necklace:  Vintage Maison, Felixstowe,

Continuing with Hazel's August challenge- Only once, I decided to give this checkered dress and fascinator/mini hat a try.

Again, this dress, I've had for a couple of years but I didn't wear it because it is every so slightly too big for me and is strapless (I'm not so keen on strapless) but I intended to find some check material and make it into a halterneck. Not happened.
I think this would be a nice lindy outfit once it is fitting snuggly, but definitely not right now! Though lovely to wear wandering around placidly in the sun, If I spun and twisted, there would be a serious case of too much underwear on show! Even when wearing the tightest strappy-dress, I end up all askew!

Checked-dresses always remind me of The Wizard of Oz! When I was a little girl, we had a Dorothy-dress, it really was just like the dress, but for some reason it disappeared when we moved house when I was about 5-6.  I'm always sad about this.  We still had a pair of glittery silver shoes though that served as our Ruby slippers when we played Oz, my sister and I.  Whenever we played 'shoe shop' at our new house, the silver slippers were always the ones I wanted to 'buy'!  In fact, I still crave a pair of Ruby Slippers!  I've got my eye on the Red or Dead ruby slippers which I wanted last year during the Autumn-term but feared they were too high.  However, I think it's worth it!!

Did you ever read the Oz books?  Did you know that Frank L Baum actually wrote 14 books in the Oz series, of which The wonderful wizard was number 1? As a child we borrowed, Ozma of Oz, The Emerald City of Oz, The Patchwork girl of Oz and Tik-tok of Oz from a friend who had them- it was so exciting- there are so many exciting places in the land of Oz that the first film doesn't mention.

It wasn't until I was in my first-year at University and discovered Amazon.com that I found out there were 14 all in all.  I ended up buying ALL the ones I hadn't read there and then on Amazon! I have to say that the first 7 books are much better than the latter ones (some of which are a bit silly) and the ones I read as a child better than the ones bought later, but it was still wonderful reading them after all those years! I always wondered how the Wizard came back to Oz (he was in The Emerald City of Oz)

I'd like to read them again but I lent them to a little girl from church and I fear she might not still have them!?
