TARDIS Tuesday outfit- Jubilee Special- Rose Tyler!

Hi there!

Hope you are well. I am back to school after half term. All a bit busy, all a bit frantic. I did start the term in a complete panic and gloom about it, didn't get everything/most things I needed to get done, done! Enough said about that, the better.

Unless you've been under a rock, you may have realised that we've had an important jubilee here in the UK- 70 years of Queen Elizabeth the II being queen. I didn't really get involved in anything going on but we've got a fortnight of school activities connected to it, starting from Monday this week. We had to go in in Red, White or Blue or a costume from the decades of the Queen's reign (I went in my 1970's kaftan.)

However, I realised I could actually theme my TARDIS Tuesday towards the Jubilee (and a good outfit for a school dressdown day!)

I last cosplayed this outfit back in September 2017  and was worn by Rose Tyler in Christopher Ecclestone's tenure as the Doctor in a World War II pair of episodes called The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances.

It comprises of:
  • Union Flag t-shirt
  • White vest top
  • Blue flared jeans
  • Gold Hoop earrings
  • Pale Blue Timberland Boots
  • Messy fluffed up hair pulled back

And here's my 2022 version:

I wore the same t-shirt I wore back in 2017- I bought it for £4 in a charity shop. It fits a bit more snuggly this time but it still works. This time, I remembered to wear a white vest top underneath it.

I wore my Indigo denim trousers (Charity shopped F&F Tescos) in lieu of the jeans I wore last time.

Another update was wearing this Barbour jacket from another Clara cosplay which worked better than the jacket I wore last night.

My final update was wearing blue leather boots which I bought in Florence in 2018.

I don't have hooped earrings so I donned a gold dangly pair.

My hair was a better length and texture this time to match Rose's and actually, this style was really easy to do plus I like the way it looks!

My two orchestra rehearsals are over for the week. Last night, I had a rehearsal in Leytonstone at an alternative church than the usual one and as usual, I got hopelessly lost trying to find it! The rehearsal was intense but really useful.  The conductor is super precise over every little detail and he demands a lot and gets a lot out of players. There are a couple of prominent 2 flute moments and I was really nervous! BUT, we responded to 2 bits of feedback and he actually told us it sounded gorgeous and was really pleased with the flute team.  It meant so much coming from someone who is so particular and I had such joy in my heart after the rehearsal (we are performing Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra).

Unfortunately, the evening took a bit of a snag as after I had cycled back to the station, I discovered there was NO central line trains back to Stratford. I ended up waiting half an hour for a bus to Manor Park to then get a train back to Stratford and then get the train home. I got home at about 12.15am!AHRGGHGH!

Tonight, I had a rehearsal in Essex for another orchestra. This time Glazunov and Tschaikovsky. It was fine but I was tired!

Luckily, no rehearsal tomorrow but I do have a lot of work to get done. Sigh...

Hope you are well.

Faith, hope and charity swap - what I sent!

Hello there!  How was your day?  Mine was very tiring but ok! I spent most of the morning (my non-contact time) trying to sort out the instrument lessons for children next year- it's a complete headache!  This evening was Exhibition evening at school where essentially turn the school into an exhibition zone for the parents to see the children's artwork, topic books and anything arty!
My 6-7 year old choir sang (only half of them as the others didn't turn up!) around 10 songs and did brilliantly.  Honestly, the older kids could really learn from them about performance presence, committment and enthusiasm!  The drumming club performed as well, some Brazilian samba and African drumming.
ANyway, I've had thing post kicking around for a while, so I might as well publish it now!

I recently posted what Helen, my lovely Faith, Hope and Charity swap partner had sent me and here's what I sent her.

I tend to find, one of the most time-consuming elements of a swap is all the wrapping and frantic hoping that your gifts wont be crushed to smithereens!
Please notice the recycling of Jubilee bunting tablecloth for some wrapping!
I made this card to say Hi!  As is synonymous with Kezzie crafting- pretty much everything is recycled except the black card! (it says FHC swap!)
The Jewellery parcel.

Helen said she liked locket necklaces so I was pleased to find this one.

One item at least had to be Jubilee themed and handmade, so I made these British flag coloured button earrings.
I really wanted to find Helen a pretty dress.  One item was to come from a charity shop at least, so I decided to look for something nice.  I was looking for ages and I kept thinking I'd found something great but then there'd be something wrong with e.g. wrong size etc!  Finally, I found this pretty Wallis dress in her size and added a a red belt to it to make it Jubilee coloured!!! I was nervous if she'd like this or not!
A bookmark (handmade) and some customised red pens  (i.e. add blue ribbon to make them Union flag coloured!) for Helen's teaching career which is soon to begin!!
I experimented with making a concertina-brooch. This was made from some lovely Union flag papers and a button with a brooch back.  It was pretty stubborn to get the thing to stay stuck!
I was handmaking some bath-fizzers for another swap and Helen said she liked baths so I thought to send her one of the bath bombs! I have to say thanks to my Mum here because she makes these herself and she very patiently supervised me making these with silicon heart-shaped moulds and I'm pretty sure that like anyone who supervises me doing something practical, she wanted to strangle me at the end! They use all natural oils including rose oil, rose maroc, sweet almond, olive oil, lavender oil, geranium oil, natural food colouring, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid. With a Neal's yard rose bud!
Since Helen is training as a teacher,I sent 2 teaching books, one of which was really useful on my PGCE.  They looked pretty ugly so I bought a little folder to put them into to pretty them up!

All in all, I was pleased with what I had managed to compile here and really glad she  liked it!

As several items were handmade, I count this towards my Annie the felt fairy Make a month!

Have you done any swaps recently.  Put a link in the comments, I love having a nosy!!!!

June Scavenger hunt

Hi everyone!  Hope you are well!  I'm fast finding that taking part in the Scavenger hunt is one of the blog highlights of my month! I have always adored a treasure hunt my entire life so I can't help but feel like a child as I take part!  Go and check out the other stunning photos at Kathy's Postcards from the PP.   Particular highlights so far for me include Ellen's Lego man and squirrel destruction and Alex Oddsocks' night time theatre (I'm guessing Macbeth? ) and her adorable cat!

You may be offended by my before and after shots and a little in poor taste, but it just suddenly occured to me as this one was causing me grief!  Sorry!  I don't advocate hunting deer! Taken at Knole Park, Kent.
Before:

After:  Poor stag- he must have been a mighty specimen!
 Bunting:  Regent street I believe.
Soho Bunting.  Not so impressive but had a more pleasing flutter.
 Crown:  They're everywhere in Westminster!
On street signs...
 On shop windows...
I even found one made out of stones in Hylands house gardens...
Diamond:
I know this is blurry but I like the dazzling effect.  This IS indeed a diamond ring.  My friend recently got engaged when she went to New York and her fiance spent ALOT on this ring!

Nature's diamonds.  I LOVE it when you see droplet of rain on the grass!
 Close:
Tenuous but this wysteria was really close to our heads at Hylands house, it touched them hanging froma Pagoda. Beautiful!
 Sleep:
I'll bet everyone has either used animals or children.  Here was a lovely Spaniel called Connor sleeping.  He belonged to my host in my Black mountains trip last week.
 On the edge.
The ridge walk at the top of The Cat's Back in the Black mountains.  It was SOOOOO windy that I was almost blown off the edge!
 Majesty:
A stone carving of Christ in majesty at Dore Abbey.  This dates from over 800 years ago.
 Out of reach:
One of my rural holiday pursuits is always the elusive taking of a photo of me with my arms round a sheep!  Yes, weird I know, but I've always thought they must feel fluffy.  This lot at a Manor house we had tea at last week weren't having any of it!
Night:
I drive CBC INSANE when we come home at night from trips out.  Since we can't read, I take 'light effect' shots of the car lights.  He says I shake the car.
This one is entitled & Y?  I say & Y not?
Night 2:  This was at the After concert party at the Manor house.  I loved the sense of looking in from the cold and rain. (Ok ok, so I was bored of conversation!)
 Symmetry 1:
The beautiful grounds of the Manor house. It was total heaven in what you could see, hear and smell.  Here is a reflection in the lake.
 Symmetry 2:
And here's another angle.  I thought it was beautiful.

Jubileh 1? Fairycakes

Hello!  Thank you for your recent kindness in visiting, it's lovely to have my loyal blog friends and new friends visiting and being so kind!
This weekend, I actually did some baking (a rarity in Kezzie-world!) in anticipation of our Jubilee tea-party at church and CBC's house barbecue (which I am now at, sheltering upstairs from the drunken renditions of The Cranberries- it's quite fun but the singing is appalling! ;-)  )

We used the Susanna Blake cupcake book and decided to make summer fruit FAIRYCAKES (for you Alex if you are there?) and lemon and blueberry ones also.
Here are the finished articles of the former...
But before that, there was prep for CBC's party!  We prepared 10 metres of Union Jack chains
 ...plumped the Tescos cushions
 Strung the sad-looking bunting...
CBC chalked a Union Jack onto the pavement
Found innovative ways of hanging up the chains!
I couldn't believe making cakes was so relatively hassle-free!  Why have I not tried it sooner!

The fun part was decorating the cakes with the fresh summer fruits.
CBC went a little mad with the icing sugar...
And we went a little too far with the Jubilee themed Decorations (did you realise that I chose them because of their colouring too?!)
The lemon and blueberry ones were a little more complicated, with more ingredients including polenta! But I zested a lemon for the first time!  (yes, I hear you gasp and roll your eyes at this, but it's exciting for me to do something new!)
I was going to attempt to wear red, white and blue all weekend but I don't think this will last, not least that the red was solely in the earrings!! The daisy suited the colour-scheme!
I did try to make my socks match the dress though! (why do I look like a lobster?)

Hmmm, was just finishing uploading the last picture when it said I'd run out of Picasa storage and needed to buy it now!  Help!  Anyone know about this?  What do I do??!!!

50's and 70's girl!

Yesterday was an extraordinary day!  To celebrate the jubilee, my school hosted a special picnic day.  It has been long in the planning.  I was a member of the committee, but the hard work was down to my deputy head teacher who was simply fantastic!

Each year group was given a decade to study and learn about, encompassing all those in the Queen's reign (50's to 2010's!) over this half term.  This included study of the technology, clothing, music, key events etc, culminating in today's special assemblies presenting their work.  But first, the picnic.  Therefore the dress code was YOUR decade of study OR red, white and blue.  Technically, I was in Reception and Year 2 who were studying present day and the 90's respecitively.  But I am mostly in Year 4 (70's) and my heart in the 70's!

We had a special jubilee breakfast organised by the breakfast club- so it was hilarious to see all the different outfits whilst we sat and ate croissants and red and blue fruits.  There were some amazing Union Jack maxi dresses, some 80's neon affairs, several 70's dresses (my floppy hats were worn by both year 4 teachers!), a wonderful 60's mini-dress, 50's capris, our head in a demure 50's outfit, and the best, a dinner lady who was Brittania!

The children had made a wonderful effort with sprayed hair, accessories, and those who had gone for decades were astounding!  One girl in year 6 was wearing an almost identical oufit to mine with the colours in reverse which were Mum had made and she had designed and chosen.  A whole plethora of 60's hippies dashed around the playground, several masssive afros alla Jackson 5 wandered around and many many Union flags were crafted into amazing outfits!
I decided to go 50's in the morning and went in my Vivien of Holloway vintage-inspired rockabilly dress and petticoat.  I accessorised with a hand-me down cardie, used a Vivien cherry brooch attached to a polka-dot headband vintage and thrifted pearl necklace, earrings and sunglasses!  This dress always makes me feel special!  It was also an experience walking to school in it!  I got lots of looks!
The morning was spent looking after Reception who were dashing around playing whilst mass-face-painting occured, each class had a slot on the bouncy castle.which I helped to supervise whilst getting them to sing "Jubileeeeee, Jubileee, jubileee, jubilee for the queen..." to the tune of "Ingerland" (that annoying football song).  I dashed off for a practice with my samba band!

Lunchtime, the dinner providers had excelled themselves with a wonderful picnic for the children of Coronation chicken rolls, cheesy pinwheels, chips in a cone, salad bag and then an ice-cream for all.  It was kind of exhausting but the happiness of the children was evident!  As a 40's sounding hit came onto the music system (a professional outfit was hired), I taught 2 girls some basic lindy-hop and one of them really got it and followed my lead!

As all the children gathered in the playground for a disco, one or two of us sloped off for 5 minutes sit down and to eat our lunch!  To play with my samba band, I changed into outfit 2, my Mum's 70's home-made kaftan (it took years of persuading for her to part with it. She's got an even nicer one which she's still holding strong on.  Give me time...), worn with ASOS Sienna gladiator sandals, Monsoon feather earrings, Dream catcher necklace (gift) and thrifted purple, felt hat!
I felt SOOOOOOO comfy wandering the playground in it! (and walking home, despite the looks which I frankly didn't care about!)  The samba band performed in between prize-awards which went amazingly and everyone was very impressed. I was really happy with them!
Time had flown SO quickly and then we found ourselves going back in to get their things to go home, myself with year 4 now.  As various commemorative gifts were given out to the children, I sat and looked at around at the smiling faces!  This was community and we were all very pleased.
I noticed one little girl's hat (Hmmmm, I don't have one like this and I'd like one!) plonked on top of the cupboard and remembered how she looked EXACTLY like me!  I have a picture of her and it's like looking at Mini Kezzie- big hat, turquoise flowing dress, and necklace.  The other kids were calling her Miss A ALL day!
Finally, to top it all off, they were given a special Jubilee cupcake!

The day was amazing!  Did your work do anything special to celebrate it?
