Mustard and olive vibes

Hello there,
I am sorry about 3 days of outfits and brooches in a row, but really I have more important things to write-about nobler causes and also my  Cruise writeups to finish and they take me so long so I habitually put them off. Terrible really.

I thought I'd share an outfit from Saturday when we were going for more house-viewings (We put in an offer for one- was rejected) and then headed up to London (the night of the hideous grid-lock)

I do think this is a typically autumnal look. It reminds me somewhat of the lovely Donna at Polka Dot Pink who frequently pairs mustard with a navy pattern, often being polka dots!
This week so far, aside from Monday's awful day (all was fine until after school meeting) has been quite a positive one. I've been pleased with the lessons I've taught, including the three most notoriously difficult classes.  Pre this term, I DREADED teaching Tudor Dance to one class but on the whole, they have totally got on board with it and really enjoyed it. I applied for a music scholarship for one of my pupils last year and discovered she got it which is fabulous, my choir rehearsal was deficient in about 15 pupils who are away on Residential but the 13 I had made a brilliant sound so that was positive. CBC made me dinner tonight ('tis a rare occurrence nowadays which is a shame as he is a great cook), we had a String Quintet recital today which is always a delight, I managed to get all the Nativity scripts printed, annotated and highlighted for staff and pupils and meticulously broken down parts on a big grid so feeling rather smug and organised.   So lots of good things after a gloomy start to the week.

CBC has made me consent to going to watch Spamalot with his school tomorrow which I'm a little grumpy about as teenagers make me feel awkward but hopefully the show will be good. Apparently, his non-music colleagues keep wondering why I never come to anything (er- I play in the music concerts!!!!!!) so I'm being dragged along.  Hopefully should be fine...

Style Imitating Art outfits

Bonsoir!
Hope all is going well with you!

I really like this blog challenge as it is educational as well as creative!  The premise is that Salazar, Jen or Erin will post a picture of a piece of artwork (this can be painting, sketch, sculpture, installation) fortnightly and then you have a week to come up with an outfit or a flat lay of clothes that is inspired by that painting- you can be as loose or literal as you feel inspired to be.

Here's two weeks worth.
Salazar selected this painting 3 weeks ago:
John Singer Sargent’s “Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose”.
This is so pretty! I love the flowers, the frills and light colours.

Here's the outfit I put together.

I choose the Miss Patina blouse to represent the light colours of the girls' dresses and particularly my collar was a nod to the frilly colours of the girls.  The skirt (from TK Maxx I think) represented the roses and the floral element - although I have a white dress with pale roses on, I wanted to choose the darker shades of the skirt to represent the time of day in the painting. The River Island belt, which is made up of fabric flowers was also acknowledgement of the importance of the florals. If you click the link on Salazar's name, you can see how the others interpreted it.

Jen is in charge of this week's picture:

Jean-HonorĂ© Fragonard’s “A Young Girl Reading
I love the brushstrokes of this and the colours.  Unfortunately, I left it till a bit last minute to interpret this one so the time of day was awful for photographing.

I wore my mustard White Stuff cardie (present from J and WOMOTM) as a nod to her yellow dress and the white lacy tunic  (local shop) as a nod to her ruffled blouse. I had the perfect ruffle-necked blouse but couldn't find it.

Jen will post everyone's outfits tomorrow at the link above.

If you'd like a creative challenge, why not join in next time.  It's very informal and everyone is welcome- men included!

Hope you are well.

Coral anglaise

Coral dress3
Some of the nicest dresses I have found have come from charity shops. I think my second post-Lent purchase in a charity shop which I forgot about was this lovely cora shirt dress. It's totally me as I love a collared dress, it's a good length on my long-legs and is flattering to my pear-shape. I like the fact collared dresses can be worn demurely buttoned up or styled different worn open with a vest top underneath!

I'm absolutely pooper-scoopered (AKA tired!) but I'm well!

I'm very grateful for a few things and I may as well sling them in here down the bottom, rather than a separate post.

1. Having got my summer term teaching observation out of the way last week.  It was with my favourite class, last lesson on a Friday. I truly love those kids! It was also a lesson I had very clear in my head, having devised it very clearly as a 'setting the scene' lesson on Fanfares.  We're learning about chords this term so it linked nicely to the topic and enabled me to teach the children two new rhythms, triplets and dotted quaver, semi-quaver patterns and allowed a great amount of discussion. It went very well and my deputy head gave me an Outstanding across the board and told me it's the best lesson she's ever seen me do and couldn't really give me any constructive criticism.  That really made my day.  I love that class, I've been observed with them every year for the last 4 years and they are so enthusiastic! Hurrah!
2. Having had a wonderful weekend playing act 1 of an opera by American Minimalist composer John Adams called 'The death of Klinghoffer'.  It was wonderful- challenging, interesting, changeable and a great workout for my piccolo playing as well as flute,  I saw many dear friends, the food was incredible, the weather was idyllic and I just simply had a marvellous time.
3.  Having pulled out of taking part in a musical production of Guys and dolls due to being asked to take my school choir to go and sing at a concert with an adult choir, I was phoned by my friend tonight to tell me she's getting married and the wedding is the same weekend- I wouldn't have been able to do it if I had stayed doing the opera.
4.  Being able to help out above friend.  Sent her my order of service, said I'd play flute for her and advised of various weddingy things. Nice to help and I am SO happy for her!
5. Having a great book to read.I am always rather bereft and lacking in my life if I don't have my parallel existence in a exciting or engaging book so I am pleased about having a new Georgette Heyer in my life- thank you charity shops!
6. Lindy is back in my life! We're TRYING to go to a weekly class in a nearby town and we've made it for two weeks. Lindy hop makes me so happy- I love the friendly people we go with and the dance teacher is really cool! He asked us if we wanted to join a new dance performing group he's putting together which is quite cool though a little scary. I danced with him yesterday which was TERRIFYING but cool, particularly as he pulled this crazy move on me- the one you might see in Strictly where the girl leans back into the guy's arms and he turns her over like a pole or a plank and steps over her- hard to explain but it was hilarious!
7.  Reports deadline is put back a week. I've done most of them BUT I still have 2 whole classes to write and two classes to finish off. Luckily, already done and sent 10 classes!
8.  MMMM, Lidl, I am grateful for cheap veg! British Asparagus for 1.09 a bundle, aubergines at 49p, avocados for 29p etc- you get so much more for your money there!
9. For the joy of wild life! I'm enjoying the 30 days wild challenge even though I've found it a bit of a challenge so far this week!
10.  As always, for friends (you included) and family and the relationships I have, both professional and blood etc.

What are you  grateful for and what do you think of shirt dresses!?
