TARDIS Tuesday- Sleep no More and Series 9 promo Clara

Hi there!

I thought I'd take a break from my Summer spins on Classic Doctor outfits (mainly because I haven't thought about one!)

Today, I am sharing a Clara outfit. Most of it was from an episode entitled "Sleep No More" but actually, the version I am doing here today was from the Series 9 promotional images featuring Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi.

I had a few previous goes at this outfit.  Back in May 2019, was the last time I wore it.

Let's have a look at it!

https://troughtonismydoctor.com/2016/01/20/doctor-who-series-9-review/

It features an expensive outfit:

It had a skirt and a top from French brand, Claudie Pierlot, a Merino wool jumper from Gap (not featured in the Promo images), a necklace from River Island or H&M, some black tights and some very painful-looking black leather monk-style shoes from &Other Stories.

Here's my version of it:

I started with the top which the lovely Ang customised for me to look like the Screen accurate one.  Mine was a charity-shopped top from M&S with a pleated collar made from another charity-shopped top.  Ang was clever-enough to make it look really similar.

Ang also customised a skirt for me to look similar by adding scalloping!).  However, it's lost its colour in the wash (after my paintstaking painting job!) and looks very odd and patchy so needs a repaint. Quite a while back, I found a Claudie Pierlot dress in the same material for a reasonable price (and thanks to lovely Alison, Dormouse for sending it to me from France!) and  ended up buying it.  You can see it below- The scalloping is around the arms instead of the hem.
I wore it under the top and added my identical triangle necklace.
The final item is the Monk shoes. They are the same brand and almost identical to the Screen-accurate ones but for one difference.  The screen accurate ones are the most ridiculously high

YUCK! However, they also made a flat version of the shoes and I was fortunate enough to get them back in late 2019.  They were a bit small so I had them stretched (before our lovely cobbler retired). They are super quality leather and I was lucky to get them for about £14compared to the RRP of over £100

I very much like this outfit.  The t-shirt is in a more practical material (i.e. cotton) than the screen accurate one which is in synthetics. Whilst the dress lacks the scalloping (which is round the sleeves instead...I suppose it might be possible to reposition it though I quite like the sleeeves), I do like it.
With the exception of the tights (which are light), it is quite a good Summer oufit.
What do you think?

TARDIS Tuesday outfit: - The Name of the Doctor - Clara Oswald

Hello there friends,

I hope all is well with you .

The last time this outfit featured on my blog, it wasn't worn by me!  The lovely Ann at Polyester Princess wore here.  The last time I personally featured it was December 2017.  I also know I did 2 versions of it previously in around 2014-2015 but I can't find the posts!  Each time, I have worn a different dress.

Let's look at the original:

Jenna Coleman is wearing a tartan dress from the NW3 collection at Hobbs made of wool blend with navy sleeves and collar. She teams it with a gold-plated Dormouse necklace, also from Hobbs, her ubiquitous black tights and a pair of burgundy knot wedged shoes as well as a couple of bracelets.

So, how has my 2022 edition remained the same or changed?
Have a look for yourself

Yes, your eyes have not deceived you, I FINALLY have the dress! It's very hard to find and very sought after! How did I acquire mine?  Well, I had another quite rare dress which another cosplayer wanted, although mine was an different coloured one- she agreed to swap dresses with me.  The slight snag was her one was a size 16 but I still swapped it. Fast forward to last year and another cosplayer had obtained the dress in a 12 but it was too small for her but she remembered I had a 16....so we swapped!

It's SUCH a beautiful-quality dress and it feels really nice.  The 12 is a bit big for me but I am glad as I wouldn't want a dress in this sort of material to be too fitted.

The burgundy shoes I am wearing came from Clarks around 7-8 years ago and they are the same ones I wore last time.
The necklace is even more rare than the dress and I only know 2 people who own it.
This Christmas, I received 2 beautiful wooden laser-cut jewellery pieces from a local jewellery-maker who, it turned out, is the wife of CBC's work colleague.  I got in touch with her back in January and asked her if she would consider a commission.  My friend Rosie provided me with photos with measurements of her real Dormouse necklace and I sent them to Katy (at My Pretty Little Earth- if you are into Space or nature, she has some really lovely wooden pieces at very reasonable prices) and she came up with the most wonderful wooden recreation of it!

I'm super happy with this outfit but what do you think?

Tonight, I'll be at my first rehearsal of my most local orchestra since February 2020- very exciting!

TARDIS Tuesday- Clara in The Woman Who Waited

Hey there,

TARDIS Tuesday this week! I missed it last week- it was a manic week and I just didn't get anything together!
This week, I wore this today (Monday) at school.
What is the outfit?  Well, it is one I wore last year back in  April

It is a sadly under-featured outfit that featured right at the end of the Series 9 episode, The Woman Who Lived.
Here's a clip...

And here's my image of the outfit at the Doctor Who Exhibition (not put on correctly!)
My picture from the Doctor Who Exhibition.
I found a good picture that my friend Chrissi used on her blog for it. You can see her bag on the chair and she is taking off a leather jacket

And here is my upgraded version of it....
I thought I'd take my photos in front of the piano since the colours of the outfit remind me of the piano- mainly black with some tiny bits of white!

What did I change from last time?
Well, I added my 'fake leather jacket' which I bought for another cosplay in the charity shop for £3.

I also managed to find the same bag as Clara's but in a tan colour (it's from Urban Outfitters and I found it on eBay for £5.99)
What stayed the same is that I have the same screen accurate blouse (which I bought for £12), an alternative (but identical) skirt which I bought second-hand for £5  and then the identical necklace (it has never been identified but I am pretty sure my one is screen-accurate- I got it from Newlook via eBay)
This time I added my pewter coloured heels as I don't have anything like the original shoes she wears but these are the most suitable for it.

I got lots of compliments for this outfit today from young members of staff and a couple of kids.  Our IT guy was very impressed how similar it was to Clara's outfit! Haha! He knows about TARDIS Tuesday now!

What is it like to wear?
Well, it is extremely comfortable, particularly as I substituted tights for black leggings to make it cycling appropriate (the skirt rides up as it does in these pictures)- the top is super comfy, as is my alternative jumper (also bought second-hand).  I wore it with boots on the way to school.  It wouldn't be so comfy if I was wearing tights as I would be worrying about the skirt riding up!

What do you think of this as a) a whole outfit, b) the individual components?

I could imagine Sophie in the Sticks wearing this as I think you have some very similar items! In fact, Sophie- I challenge you to recreate this outfit with your lovely wardrobe!!!

Thanks for reading!!

5 brooches or rather necklaces #66

I haven't done a 5 brooches post since November!  What with moving and getting straight and leaving cameras in Kent, I got out the habit of photographing my brooches or necklaces or posting pictures of them!

I seem to have been wearing more of my necklaces recently so I wondered whether to call this 5 necklaces but I'll stick with the normal name.

Yesterday, I went with the fishy look!  The acrylic necklace was a purchased from Kirsteen Stewart in Kirkwall in the Orkneys and is a great favourite.

Jammy Dodger badge at the Steampunk event I went to with Sophie at the Museum of Power
My work colleague knows how much I like foxes and her daughter made me this fox necklace for my birthday!
This starry night necklace is just so pretty!  It came from Kimchi and Coconut
Finally, I bought this slightly damaged necklace from Sugar and Vice because it is Tik Tok from Return to Oz! I love anything Oz.

Only 1 brooch today and the rest necklaces.

Any favourites here?

A whimsical "Not buying ANYTHING in the sales," wishlist...

Since Christmas is now over and this won't sound like a big Christmas list, I thought I'd share some really nice and cute items that I think are great and would gladly own! As we are now mortgage-payers though not yet moved (more on that soon), I won't be buying any of these, much as I would LOVE to!  Maybe you might like them too! Or at least be entertained by my novelty tat-likes!
Fox blouse from Sugarhill Boutique
Firstly, I saw this blouse on my IG friend Charrrlie a while back and I confess that I adore it!  It's now in the sale at £29 and I would dearly love to buy it- in fact it has hovered in an online basket about 6 times now but I have not made any sale purchases as finances are going to be limited for a while so I won't be getting it, but it is rather gorgeous!
Fox jumper from Sugarhill Boutique
The fox blouse has been accompanied every time by this delightful foxy jumper, £35 in the sale- I think it is really cute but I do already have a fox jumper so alas, I must resist!
Rainbow jumper from Sugarhill Boutique
This rainbow jumper is also from Sugarhill Boutique but is not in the sale! It is rather jolly! I do love me a good rainbow!
Lolly Jar
Lolly Jar from Lottie and Lu.

High up the novelty tat (but expensive!) stakes is this aaaaaaaaaaamazing sweetie jar brooch from Lottie and Lu! Oh my! What a clever idea!

Button Jar Brooch
Button jar from Lolly and Lu by Martini & Slippers
Similarly, this button jar brooch is utterly adorable and I can think of clothing this would go beautifully with!

Sausage Fox necklace from Little Moose
Continuing the foxy theme is this marvellou Sausage Fox necklace from Little Moose! It is a lovely tortoiseshell acrylic and very sweet. They also do a Weasel which I love too! It is around £27.99

'Sausage' Weasel Necklace

Oh look, here is the weasel!

Cheshire Cat Necklace
Cheshire Cat necklace from Little Moose

Little Moose have had this Cheshire Cat necklace a while and it is one I always go and stare at lovingly, well, when I remember that  Little Moose exist!
Apatosaurus necklace from Little Moose
This Apatosaurus necklace is HUGE and I adore it!

Mountain Range Necklace
Mountain range necklace from Little Moose
This Mountain and Cable Car necklace is really sweet- it's another one I occasionally go and drool over...
Firework Sparkle Necklace
Firework necklace from Tatty Devine
Finally,no way could I ever afford this but I do think this Tatty Devine necklace is amazing! CBC would KILL me if I bought and/or wore this!

Any ones you like here or are they all a bit too novelty for your tastes!?

Rocky Robin

As I was looking through some blogposts that reviewed 2016, I realised that I have done very few outfit posts in 2017 and indeed, less blogposts than I have in previous years. I do think Instagram has a lot to do with that as has just being generally busy.

Anyway, I thought I would share my Christmas Eve outfit.
Forgive the scruffy photos but I got my husband to take these quite late at night after I had come back from the Anglican Carol service and Catholic Mass (yep, went to both one after the other)

The robin dress is a handmade pinafore from Vintage Style Me.  I have one Dinosaur dress from there which I bought last year.  I follow them on Instagram and I know that times as a handmade business can be very hard and from the promotions running on Instagram felt that perhaps they weren't getting as many orders as they might have liked so when there was a promotion where they sent you a discount voucher, I ordered this pinafore. It IS a Christmas fabric, but I reckon I could get away with it in the Winter months.

To make it season appropriate, I wore this moss-green Topshop turtle neck underneath (charity-shopped) and some thermal leggings and boots (sadly not pictured!)
Plus, my other favourite Robin item is this freebie necklace I got from Rosebud Casson last year!!

I always like it when CBC approves of an outfit (sometimes he is a bit disparaging about some of the more 'novelty' or 'Doctor Who' outfits)-  he liked this one!

What did you wear on Christmas Eve?

5 necklaces

I realised, when deciding to put together another 5 Brooches post, that I have mainly worn necklaces recently, so I thought I would post this separately as its own posts.
The first outfit was Oz-themed:  I wore my Tik-tok necklace from Sugar and Vice.  Tiktok, the wind-up mechanical man featured in the Return to Oz movie but in the original L Frank Baum book series, he was introduced in Ozma of Oz- he was found in the land of Ev and he even got the 7th book in the series named after him- Tiktok of Oz.   To add to the Oz theme, I added my Ruby slippers brooch, the Hot air balloon shirt (the Wizard's mode of transport) and a yellow-brick road cardigan.
This necklace is one worn by Clara in Doctor Who but it had no Doctor Who link in this foxy jumper outfit.
My 'The Prisoner' look was added to by this Pom-pom necklace which I made a while ago.  It's certainly my most cosy necklace.
The dancing otters don't really have much to do with the rest of my outfit.
Last but not least, I thought this blue blouse would be nice with this wave necklace.

Any favourites here? Have you worn any necklaces this week?

5 brooches #58

Hello there!
It is rather a while since I have done one of these posts so I figured I should share my lovely brooch collection and their various outings!

My computer is doing that irritating thing again where it turns the picture sideways.  Please turn your head to the side! I decided to go for all dog accessorising with my Dalmation jumper by wearing the lilac resin dog brooch with the fantastic K9 enamel pin that the wonderful Melanie bought me for my birthday!
Horrible chin shot!  I added the Primark patch-like brooch to my acrylic Cloud glitter brooch as well as a Tatty Devine necklace for OTT accessorising!
Last up we have the combination of resin Fairy brooch (bought in Whitby from the market hall) and my Cat ice-lolly necklace!

Any favourites here?

Worn any brooches? Do share if you have!

Simple sailor

My love of nautical attire is well documented on this here blog (just check out the Sailor, Nautical, Naval tags for evidence)
I bought this Topshop jumper on my first visit to one of the 3 charity shops in the town I moved to over a year ago. It was a really happy purchase.  In fact, now I think about it. I've not bought MANY items from there but all of them have been really wanted ones, e.g. Emily and Fin button dress, Cath Kidston Stop Thief bag, Clara Oswald Topshop Diamond blouse, Clara Oswald Contrast checked mac and some great books!

This was my Sunday attire.  I missed the rail replacement bus (instead of train) to church and the trouble is, by the time the next one would have come, I would have been realllllly late for church as the next one wasn't for half an hour, it would take half an hour and then church is over a mile's walk from the station (Plus I already had 0.7mile walk from home). It's not ideal so I ended up going to a church in my local town that starts at 11am rather than 10. It's an old stone church, totally contrasting my 1960's built church, pretty church yard, traditional sung Eucharist with all hymns. It was a nice service and I enjoyed being somewhere different for a change.
These shoes are made by Toms who have a philanthropic approach to shoe-selling as they give one pair of shoes for everyone you buy to a street child somewhere. I bought them for CBC last Summer after finding them in TK Maxx for only £16 but after wearing them for a few months he decided he didn't like them so I wear them at the weekends sometimes.

Speaking of TK Maxx, I was rather pleased as we went to TK Maxx on Saturday to see if CBC could obtain some Red Nose goodies for school. He ended up spending a while mooching round buying himself a shirt. I went over to the men's shoe section and spied these Handmade Loakes brogues. They retail at £150 and I got them for £50 for CBC's birthday present. He had a pair as his wedding shoes but he's mashed them rather over the last few years for school so I bought him this new pair for best.

Also managed to get these amazing Pulsin Raw choc brownies for my Gluten, dairy free friend for her birthday.  I bought a box of them as a birthday present for my other Gluten free, dairy free friend for her birthday as I found them for £4 in Aldi once (a one off). She absolutely ADORED them and said she preferred them to her usual Nakd bars and went online and ordered a box of 20 of them.  They retail £4.50 for three of them online so I was chuffed to find a box of 3 for £2.49 in TK Maxx so got Anne 3 boxes. I told L, the aforementioned colleague and she promptly went off to the local TK Maxx and bought up their entire supply!  If you happen to have special dietary requirements (Sandra, Susie amongst others), it might be worth a look. They are dairy, wheat, gluten, soya, non-GM and vegan.

We also got a bottle of Organic Surge hand and body wash for £2 (usually at least £4.50) which is hard to find anywhere now. I do so like TK Maxx.

It was nice to buy things for others, particularly as one of my Lent fasts is from clothes, accessory, non-essential purchases for me.

I did leave out books though and I did manage to buy 2 more of the Kate Shackleton mysteries from the aforementioned charity-shop on my way back from church. I'd seen them a week ago but didn't buy them.

Finally, CBC showed me this adorable video. I WANT A SKUNK!!!!!

Are you an ardent TK Maxx visitor?
