70's Edwardian Matron

70's matron 3
I discovered a new vintage shop not too far from where I live. It's called Debbie does Vintage and you can find her Facebook page here.     Debbie is such a nice person, really kind, approachable and down to earth so it was great to have a chat with her and root through all the delicious vintage clothing and accessories at reasonable prices and be able to try them on!

I ended up buying two dresses, the one featured here and one I am probably wearing for a wedding in May. This one, which I believe is a 70's does Edwardian (but feel free to correct me Vix or Curtise)
is super comfortable and CBC laughed out loud and groaned simultaneously when I bounced down the stairs wearing this when we were off to meet his glam, trendy London friend for lunch.

Edwardian matron? Oh well, it made a statement. Not sure the people in my local town who are a mixture of lovely local down-to-earth types and orange TOWIE-fans were ready for it!

I meant to wear this hat (charity-shopped brand new LONG ago) but forgot it which was annoying as it was uber windy! Teamed it with vintage Mum belt and Next boots and that was that (oh and THE most irritating black tights ever. I know I must have looked SO unglamorous hoiking them up as we walked around Spitalfields. But it was either saggy tights or undignified pulling!

70's matron

Had a rather productive day today. Today was my first full day back from staying in Sussex with a dear friend AND I had a fab blogger meet-up on Monday which I need to tell you all about...
My Mum and I headed over to my Grandad's old house, which could be one of the last times before it sells. So bittersweet to be there.  I still have regrets and sadness over my dear Grandad and I just wish I could call him and talk to him.  We walked in the garden and took some cuttings or camelias and saw the start of the blue bells and then headed back home. After some cups of tea, Mum and I headed into the garden where we repotted some raspberries and strawberries and my fig tree and then I attacked the evil brambles that have taken over one side of the garden and did a huge and appalling topiary job on our (formerly) pretty bush.  I was out there a good 3 hours.  After drinking more tea (Mum headed off a while back), I then went through the shed looking for one craft item which I could not find anywhere. So frustrating. Of course I found the flower punch I was looking for last week and I expect I'll find the Shrink plastic next week.  I've headed back inside and made somethings.  CBC came home from work (poor dear was back this week) and has fallen asleep on the sheepskin rug and is snoring very loudly. Keeping it real here ladies and gentlemen.  He suggested we go out for dinner. So I shall have to wake him.

Sending you all the best of wishes.

xx

  1. I like the dress and it looks great on you! I'm back at school on Monday, like you... dreading it! Must buy a winning lottery ticket during the next school holiday, hehe!

  3. You look very nice in your new vintage dress and the hat looks good too. Pity about the sagging black tights but I bet nobody noticed but you.

3 hours gardening is quite a long time but I'm sure it was worth it. Gardening is so labor intensive, I know about it. I spend hours and hours, never counting or I think I'd just give up. Having nice blooms is so rewarding.

My gardens are barely waking up but it's going to be lot of work getting them to look nice again after a long winter.

You CBC must have been exhausted, how sweet of him to ask you out to dinner. Have a great time. You deserve it after working so hard this afternoon.
    Enjoy your weekend also.
    Hugs,
    JB

  4. Oh, I love this dress! I'd wear it in a New York minute. But then I'd have to steal it from you and that would make me feel bad. Maybe I'll just borrow it when you aren't looking and put it back after I'm done.

  5. Hello, Kezzie! Your last comment really concerned me--I often feel disconcerted when I don't hear from my blogger friends for awhile, so I apologize if it seemed like I was ignoring you. To be honest, I haven't left comments in a bit because I'm been swamped in schoolwork and making lesson plans for my internship. I actually visited recently but ended up having to turn to work.

Lately when I do leave comments though, I do my best to make them as meaningful as possible. In my opinion, I'd rather have one meaningful comment then ten generic ones! Disqus as wasn't intended for me to isolate myself--I actually switched over so I could leave replies to any questions on my editorial posts. That way other readers could see the answers. You've asked some pretty great ones! If you don't mind, I'd love it if you could include your blog link in comments. I usually go straight from the comment to the commenter's blog and it's been a little more difficult navigating to yours.

Anyways, you look absolutely lovely in that vintage dress. The colors suit you so well and the hat goes with it perfectly. I'm jealous that you have shops where you can converse with the owners and score awesome timeless pieces. I absolutely can't wait to hear about the blogger meetup--it's incredible when blogging meets real life. I'm sorry to hear about your sadness upon visiting your Granddad's--definitely a reminder to me to appreciate mine fully when I visit them. Sending you hugs and best wishes!

  7. It's a pretty dress and you look good, Kezzie. I enjoy browsing around charity and vintage shops especially when the daughters are with me. They always find something out of the ordinary at bargain prices. It's a lot of fun looking for vintage.
I remember wearing long cotton skirts with several rows of frills near the hem in the 70s although I was almost middle-aged - something I wouldn't repeat if I had my time over again! I think the style is back in fashion!

  8. I think I know a bit how it feels about your grandad... and the feeling of being at his place, but then the flowers are blossoming... like they do... sometimes they don't blossom inside us for a while, but they will in the nature, to remind us that all things must pass (my favorite singer ever). But now to the Edwardian dress - you don't look matronly, on the contrary! I love this kind of dress and if you see one again for a shorter person, pls tell me, I want it! I simply loved it and want to go to this "new" vintage store! The hat is also fabulous, bad that you forgot, but it happens :) And bad about the tights, but again, it also happens :) You look really really fabulous, sincere words! I love this dress!

  9. Not usually a 70's fan, but this whole look is just too adorable on you, great find! My Mum is getting a craft room and in the meantime moans every time she has to make something that she has no idea where 'x' is. She's gone off crafting because she can't find anything just now, so she's definitely looking forward to it all being stored neatly in one place.

  11. Loved the dress, Kezzie! But I busted out laughing at your hiking up the black tights ~ brought back some uncomfortable and funny memories! Poignant story about your granddad's old house. I am facing my sister and BIL tearing down my grandmother's home that is woven throughout the fabric of my life and my mother's not to mention my siblings and extended families. And my great grandmother's house is going down in the same village. Time moves on, and my sister and BIL deserve a comfortable home in retirement. They did save the house and property from leaving the family, and the land will remain in the family. And we did get to enjoy everything another 25 years. But ti's so hard to see special places go. I'm glad that you got some cuttings. Great post, Kezzie! Sorry about repeatedly lurching in and out; I just can't seem to catch up on everything and stay on schedule. Have a happy week!

  12. Thank you for your kind reply, Kezzie! I definitely understand that pain of Disqus, especially since I know how tedious it is to type on a phone. The html is also inconvenient--I always just leave the code in an email draft and copy and paste haha. But no worries! I've bookmarked your blog, so I can always just type in a "k" in my browser and your link shows up :)

    Happy Saturday!

  13. One of your loveliest outfits ever, that husband of yours needs his eyes testing. Great 1970s dress and gorgeous hat and the ankle boots are perfect. xxx

  14. Yes, that dress certainly looks early-mid 70s to me, and it's a beauty; I love the stripes, the colours and of course the ruffles! Not everyone will appreciate your style, of course, but have faith, the vintage cognoscenti in Blogland know a fine outfit when they see one.
Taking cuttings from your grandad's garden and being able to see the blooms every year would be a lovely ongoing memorial to him. xxx

  18. Trendiness can never hold a candle to free-spirited creativity. But in the '70s vein, it turns out that your Edwardian matron look may even be ON trend. Yikes! Beautiful dress and hat. I have had undignified moments of tugging on tights as well. Heh.

  22. I think you look darling, Kezzie, and I love that you are bold and confident enough to have your own style, and wear your own style, and enjoy doing it! No lemming-following for you - haha!! :) I loved reading about your visit to your granddaddy's house. It is bittersweet. The memories stay, so strong, and you can always go back and stroll around in them too.

  24. Nothing matronly here ... you'll look the ingenue always even with the gaining of age and wisdom! Excellent outfit, and you wear it well. Hope you had a lovely dinner ... on the way out ourselves to shop and dine once Dan returns from the repair shop with my little car. So glad all is well in your part of the world. (Am watching/listening to our new BBC America news channel as I write ... such a great addition for us Anglophiles.)
